thomas2 Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 So I once more went to Walibi Belgium (aka Vekomaland) on september 1st. Here are some notes and remarkes: -Calamity Mine’s cars are really bad. The back of the seats is just hard metal, there’s no seatdivider and the lapbar, when completely pressed down, doesn’t come anywhere near my body. I got thrown around the whole time and my back smashed against that horrible back (I still got bruses!). I believe that the ride would be much better with other, new trains. -I for the first time raised my arms in Dalton Terror. It’s more fun that way! -Weerwolf has gotten really out-of-control over the last years, and I was quite surprised with it’ speed. But it has also gotten rougher, and that also surprised me. It’s perfect the way it is, so let’s hope it doesn’t get too much. -Cobra, the boomerang, really sucks. I hate boomerangs! -On the other hand, Turbine surprised me with it’s launch and smoothness. This ride is great, but is soo old that I fear for it’s future… -The staff was quite friendly, but those mascottes are really annoying: they grab you for a picture, even if you don’t want to and if you run away (luckily a guy in a elephant costume can’t run really fast) -People were working on Vertigo, and the lift was testing all day. 'Nuff said, time for the photo's and video's! Random cable Dalton Terror thinks: what a wuse ride! See This futuristic support kinda ruins the atmosphere of the western village... Oooh spirals! The cables cross the paths and plaza's several times Hypermodern vertical lift That cable looks really thin Look at the size of that randomly placed footer! This thing is actually rather high and impressive Oooh it's Vertigo What's that?!? Is it a cable lift, is it a coaster? Hooray for empty boats! It has an indoor backwards section which is really nice Yuck! It's called Flash Back BTW Yay, logflume with disguisting water!!! Vampire.rar Offride of Vampire This is the best part of a SLC, the 'OMG my feet are going to crash in that track!!!' part Twisty goodness Poor theming Vampire, the SLC! Weerwolf sign. Loup Garou is just french for Weerwolf because in Belgium people speak Dutch and French (and some German) Weerwolf is built on water, which gives some nice views One last shot of the lifthill because everyone likes lifthills! More out-of-control wood Twisty layout Station with very boring queu (luckily it wasn't filled that day) Final helix and brake run of Weerwolf Weerwolf, Belgium's only wooden coaster, and a really good one! It's Spongebob, and he's winking!!! This thing is huge! WB also has a big ferriswheel, with nice views from the park Wok, the dragon For you transport rides-freaks I once saw someone throwing up on this while it worked. Not very nice... Walibi also has a aquapark called Aqualibi. Here are the 2 slides Cobra.rar Offride of 'Cobra' Cobra, the crappy boomerang And backwards ofcourse. It goes pretty far up the spike racing... This is where the train leaves the loop and races for the sky Spike This one is partially enclosed, with light effects and stuff like that. Very cool (if they work) Turbine, the shuttle loop Keverbaan.rar Onride of Keverbaan That first drop totally own the one of EGF! Very small, but fun Wow a hidden kiddie coaster! I had no idea this was here! Challenge of Tuthankamon.rar Onride of Challenge of Tutankhamon wow dark ride alert. Any ride with such a sign rules Dalton Terror just looms over Vertigo it's 77m high Warning, huge phallic symbol located! This is Dalton Terror BTW Intamin goodness!!! Calamity Mine.rar Onride of Calamity Mine No comment Airtime hill over the green water Well this one sucks! Any coaster with 2 lifthills gotta be good right? BTW, that green is water! Quite nice actually, but built by Vekoma so you know what that means the "funcky" mine train Calamity Mine! In case you don't know which park this is: Walibi Belgium Yay!
thomas2 Posted September 2, 2006 Author Posted September 2, 2006 Part 2 Another shot of the funcky lift This thing is huge! Spirals all the way Vertigo comes quite close to the ground Overview. I can't wait for Vertigo to go open, it looks soo fun Thanks for looking at my TR and see ya!
viking86 Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Nice pictures! I think I would be 'slightly' nervous about going on Vertigo. It looks very fun though...
FlyingScooter Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Nice TR! Thanks for the Train pic. Vertigo looks insane.
RCfanatic Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 I dont know why you hate Cobra & Calamity Mine but i must say i absolutely LOVE those rides, and all other Vekoma boomerangs, sorry to hear you hate them but if you don't let the roughness get to you they're very good coasters. Ow and i must agree on Weerwolf getting rougher, it hasn't got to rough but the thing sakes you around pretty good... Thanks for the vids and nice Trip Report, and lucky you for seeing Vertigo test, i've been there three times this year and never seen the thing move... Ow and you should try and pretend to be going to the season pass/information center to the right of the entrance and then sneak around the mascottes when some family comes in, works every time for me . EDIT: Can you tell me how you got the kiddie credit? I get sent away every time i don't even try anymore, can you describe who was operating it?
thomas2 Posted September 2, 2006 Author Posted September 2, 2006 ^I don't hate Calamity Mine's track, I just hate the roughness. The ride itself is fun but just not enjoyable due to those badly designed trains. But I absolutely HATE Cobra because it doesn't do much IMO and the boomerang element is kinda painfull. I also think the train of Cobra are not very comfortable (small, not many legroom and bad seating) The kiddie credit: the operator was a young woman with glasses and blonde hair. Sorry but I don't remeber her name. She even said thank you when I said I'd like to ride it because there was just noone there and she was happy to see someone. Friendly woman. Ow and you should try and pretend to be going to the season pass/information center to the right of the entrance and then sneak around the mascottes when some family comes in, works every time for me. I have got to remeber that! Never thought Walibi could be so obnoxious
obeygiant Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Nice pics... They have Spongebob in 3-D?? Why can't Universal or Disney have something like that?
