jack w Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 How good do your grades need to be to get in a good college? I have a three point gpa, but i didn't take any activites or extra things, this is my third year so im going to 11th grade, i took all years of summer school, and wanted to know what grade is good for going straight to univeristy? i might bring my gpa up to 3.0-3.5 if i do good my last two years, so just to make sure, is 3.0 good?
jack w Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 do you know any good ones that will accept.
Wes Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 What do you want to study? What major? What location(s) would you like to be in? What state? There's more to picking a college than if they'll let you in. If you have a 3.0-3.5, you should be able to get into plenty of schools, but it varies depending on what you want to major in or where you want to be. Give more specifics!!!
BelizeIt Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Judging by the grammar and punctuation in your post, it doesn't look as though you've taken many college preparatory courses in High School. (No insult intended) So, your best bet may be to attend a Junior College for the first two years, until you decide what course of study you wish to pursue. This way you can save a lot of money on your education, while still reaching your goal of obtaining a degree from a university.
Hercules Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 ^ I completely agree. (Once again, no insult intended). Community colleges are nothing to be ashamed of. They give that little extra prep that high school may not have provided or what wasn't taken advantage of at the high school level. Also, I would like to suggest getting to the guidance office. And yeah, specifics would be a lot better too.
Carnage Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Or try a Canadian comunity college. They let in anyone as long as you're willing to pay. They even let me in and I didn't do crap in high school.
Homer Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 About time for a good college thread! Anybody care to give me the lowdown on FSU or USF? I heard UF's enrollment rates are 1 in 4 students. A little info; 3.4 GPA, 1280 SAT, Mass Media for 2 years, trying to specialize in advertising/mass media as a major. Good enough?
niiicolaaah Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 ^Uh... Why don't you try visiting the website of the college you're interested in? Or calling them to request information?

A little info; 3.4 GPA, 1280 SAT, Mass Media for 2 years, trying to specialize in advertising/mass media as a major. Good enough? If USF is on par with UGA, you should be fine. I got into UGA as a junior (for joint-enrollment) with a 1500 SAT, but most of the people in my classes had around 1200-1300. I'm hoping for MIT, since I have 2 good connections inside the school, but if that doesn't pan out, then I guess GT it is for me. As for the thread starter, you should try to get involved in a few clubs or teams asap. Make sure you pick something that interests you, and become really involved in the club. Colleges want deep involvement in a few clubs rather than being in a ton of clubs and not doing anything. For example, I'm an officer in NHS and Student Council, a member of Beta Club, the captain of Academic Bowl, and hopefully the captain of our swim team this year. Hope that helps.
thomas2 Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Haha I'm so happy to live in Belgium: I can go to every college I want even if my grades really suckes (they didn't!)

Nowadays, colleges look at much more than your GPA. They look at what activites you're participating in, and community service. It also depends on your SAT score. If you score well on the SAT, then your chances of getting into a better college are much greater than if you did not score well on the SAT. As for your GPA, I assume that if you have at least a 3.0 average than some colleges may let you in. But now most colleges want you to be active in the school and community and look at what extra curricular activites you are participating, instead of just looking at GPA of SAT scores.
