  1. There are small cottages near the lake that people used to stay in while visiting and there is a huge swimming pool there that closed a long time ago. Luming Lake was probably a very nice park when it was new. Too bad none of us found it sooner.
  2. I agree. This park should be defunct, but something keeps it hanging on. I am happy to have taken time to visit.
  3. This morning began early as I went to Zhongshan in Guangdong province in China. My destination was Luming Lake. I had read there were bumper cars here, so I figured there was a park here. I got off the bus and walked ten minutes to the lake and on my way there, I passed the Golden Lion Amusement Machine Company. Seeing the kiddie coaster through the gate tipped me off that this is where rides were made. I asked if I could go in and get some photos and I was given permission. I saw that the coaster was not complete as the chain lift had not been installed and it had no train or loading station. Only the track was completed. I guess this is for show only. I took photos of this coaster, the frame of a pirate ship, a carousel and a paratrooper before leaving. I got to Luming Lake and at the entrance, I wondered if the place was still open. When I saw a lady in the ticket booth, I knew it was open. I paid 3 yuan (about 45 US cents) and entered. As I entered, I noticed an old brochure with a kiddie coaster on it. I was also told all they had to do there were the boats on the lake. I walked through the park and walked past some rusty old kiddie rides that stopped running a long time ago. I walked around the lake and came to a cycle monorail and bumper cars. I noticed the monorail had stopped running a long time ago and was very rusty. I also noticed a guy standing by the bumper cars. Expecting to be told that the bumper cars no longer ran, I asked if they were open and as it turns out, they are still in operation. I took one ride. The ride op got into another car and we had a bit of road rage. After the bumper cars, I walked over to a haunted house ride and took a spin on it. After the haunted house, I found a kiddie coaster (not listed on RCDB) called Golden Dragon. This coaster hasn't ran in a long time. Weeds were growing up through a couple of sections of the track. I took some photos and then left. As I walking towards the exit, I passed the footer for a paratrooper. I didn't take time to take a boat on the lake. Other than the ride op who joined me on the bumper cars, the lady at the ticket booth and a lady running a food stand, I was the only person at the park. I imagine it was a very nice place when it opened. I think that the lake's location far away from the city may have doomed it. With a gate admission being charged, boat rides on the lake, bumper cars and the haunted house, Luming Lake is still holding on. I say within the next year, it will become fully defunct. I classify Luming Lake as a semi-defunct park as it is still open, but most of the attractions have been closed or removed. The only activities are the boats, haunted house and bumper cars. That is all. For those wondering how many coasters I have discovered before they were listed on the RCDB, I am up to having discovered 73 coasters. I discovered that the city of Chaozhou has two coasters in Fenghuangzhou Park (I haven't been here yet) and I found that Changjiang Water World was once home to a shuttle loop that has long since been removed. I am on my way to Luming Lake, but I will make a short stop at this place. Here is a merry go round made by Golden Lion. Golden Lion offers its own Paratrooper. I wonder what this will become... Golden Lion makes roller coasters. This is another look at Golden Lion's coaster. I have finally make it to Luming Lake. Is this place still open? I have made it through the gates. This place is open. Boats still operate on the lake here. Luming Lake used to have a Paratrooper. These rides do not run anymore. The Jeff Johnson credit is no longer in operation. I was happy to find the bumper cars were open. The haunted house was open too. Luming Lake is home to the SBNO Golden Dragon. I climbed the lift to take this photo. Here is the coaster from the top of the lift. Here is a shot of one of the curves on Golden Dragon. Weeds are growing through the Golden Dragon's track. If I could fire this baby up and go chasing women and causing trouble. I'd be the Enthusiast From Hell.
  4. I hope Jinling Happy World goes with a different company. The looping coaster at Yingze is painful. Stick with that suspended coaster there instead.
  5. Eagle's Fortress. I remember the last day was a Sunday in January of 2009. I remember the days leading up to that day being bitterly cold. On the morning of what would be Eagle's Fortress' last day, I went outside to take out the garbage and I was shocked at the unseasonably warm temperatures. I had been staying in most days due to the cold weather, but I immediately knew I wanted to go to Everland. I went out there and knew rode the Eagle's Fortress the whole day. For whatever reason, I didn't go to T-Express or any of the other rides. I just stayed at Eagle's Fortress the entire time. The park closed at 9:00pm that night and I rode almost up until closing. I decided to leave before EF gave what would be it's last ride as I was tired and planned to be back in a couple of days. If I had known that EF was going to take only one last flight, I would have stayed until the end. I was on the next to the last ride of this beautiful coaster. Eagle's Fortress always had one of the longest lines at Everland and was one of only four rides in the park that had a fast pass system. I would have thought the popularity of this great ride would have kept it around for many years to come. Rolling X-Pain always seems to have only a 10 minute wait with only one train running, but Eagle's Fortress could have close to a 90 minute wait with two trains running. There will never be another Eagle's Fortress.
  6. In answer to the question about how the loop coaster rode-painful. Once was enough for a lifetime, but I will go back to Yingze for Batflyer (the actual name of the suspended coaster). Batflyer alone is worth the trip to Yingze just because it is such a unique ride.
  7. This park could easily be done as a day trip from Beijing. The park is about 20 minutes walk from Taiyuan station. I think it is about a four hour train ride via fast train from Beijing to Taiyuan. Yingze Park is well worth the effort to visit. There are three coasters, a chutes, log flume, rapids ride, ferris wheel, two double-decker carousels and dozens of other other rides. Yingze Park would be an excellent addition to TPR's China trip.
  8. With the two coasters I discovered at the Shijiazhuang Botanical Garden, I am now up to 69 coasters.
  9. Actually it is likely an Asian thing as I have been to parks in Korea and Japan and in many cases, the parks are part of a larger complex. Examples of this would include places like Chiba Zoo in Japan and the Children's Grand Parks in Seoul and Busan, Korea.
  10. I went to the Shijiazhuang Botanical Garden yesterday and found two more roller coasters to add to the RCDB. I know about Roller Coaster, a loop and single corkscrew that is like one I found at Shuilianshan Amusement Park a month or so ago. This ride was as rough as the one at Shuilianshan. The botanical garden is a huge place with a lot of natural beauty. There are many plants and trees, a lake and a large amusement area. I decided to walk through the whole amusement area as I was certain that, with the way I have been finding coasters here in China and the fact that the ride offering at this place was so large, that there would be another coaster. I was right. I found a mine train coaster that is like the ones I rode at Beijing Shijingshan Park and Sun Park in Beijing. This coaster is basically an expanded Wacky Worm. I was almost done with my walk through the rides area when I found a mouse coaster. This is a Chinese built mouse that appears to be a knock-off of a mouse built by a Japese company. Once again, I had ridden this design before at SunPark in Beijing and at Laodong Park in Dalian, China. I took some photos of other rides and some of scenery at the garden and left. This place is well worth checking out. I have arrived at Shijiazhuang Botanical Garden. Here is what part of the garden looks like. This boat takes guests for a nice ride on the lake. Here is another scene from inside the garden. This serves as the garden's carousel. The flume ride here is hidden by a fake rock mountain. The ferris wheel is huge. I thought the outside of this walk-through was interesting. This mine train coaster is at Shijiazhuang Botanical Garden. I am ready for my ride on the mine train. The mine train featured many turns. I am ready for my mouse ride. Here is a view of the mouse. Here is Roller Coaster from across the lake. Here is the helix on Roller Coaster. This ride is painful. Here is a shot of Roller Coaster's painful corkscrew to finish off the trip report.
  11. The two loops on Yingze's Roller Coaster are the same size.
  12. Today I went to Yingze Park in Taiyuan, Shanxi province in China. This park is very out of the way. I first learned about it when I read the entry for the park on RCDB. At that time, the park was listed as having looping coaster. Earlier this year, while look at the park on Google Maps, I saw a mouse coaster and alerted RCDB about this. I visited the park today and found a very odd suspended coaster there was well. This brings my total of finding 67 coasters that weren't listed on RCDB at the time of me finding them. Yingze Park is huge and surrounds two lakes. There are two different areas with amusement rides. This park could easily be branded as a Six Flags park or Cedar Fair park without having to add any thing to it as it features many rides such as a log flume, rapids, chutes, two double-decker carousels and many other rides. As for the coasters, Spinning Coaster is a spinning mouse from Golden Horse, a Chinese company. Roller Coaster is a double loop and corkscrew that is built over part of a lake. The suspended coaster is strange. The cars remind me of a Batflyer, but this coaster is not a single rail coaster. It features two rails placed very close together. In at least two places during the ride, the swing action of the cars is very good and reminds me of Eagle's Fortress. I think this ride should be called Son of Eagle's Fortress or Eagle's Fortress Jr. This coaster may lack large drops, but it still very fast in places. It is well worth seeking out if you visit China. I am in Taiyuan-a city where not too many foreigners live. I my reason for being here is Yingze Park. Many people were at the park today. This huge building was in the park. This boat took passengers on rides on one of the lakes in the park. Here is the ferris wheel as seen from across the lake. Yingze's Midway featured many rides. The log flume at Yingze Park has a lot of theming. Here is a shot of Yingze Park's spinning coaster. Here is Yingze's looping coaster. This drop was much longer than on most loop and corkscrew coasters. Here are the vertical loops on Roller Coaster. I was about to leave Yingze Park when I discovered something. It is a suspended coaster. It looked like a Batflyer with two rails and a spiral lift. Here is the spiral lift. Here is a shot of the big downward spiral. I took this photo while standing under the coaster. Here is one last look at the suspended coaster at Yingze Park before I end my trip report.
  13. I started my day at Heping Park. RCDB has a mouse listed as being here. The mouse coaster has been removed but there is a small kiddie coaster that is both running and rusting away. For 5 yuan (75 cents), I got six circuit on it. There are bumper cars and a paratrooper here as well as a few kiddie rides. That is about it for this park. Wuhan Zhongshan Park is a city park with a massive collection of rides including three coasters. There is a loop and corkscrew, a jungle mouse and a spinning mouse. The spinning mouse has cars that look like UFOs and track that makes it look like and Arrow/Morgan creation. After Zhongshan Park, I stopped at the Wuhan Zoo. There was a park here, but most of the rides have been removed. The mouse coaster (not on RCDB) and pirate ship still stand, but are blocked by a fence. The castle-like entrance to the rides still stands as well. After visiting the zoo my day in Wuhan ended. I will be back to Wuhan when the new Happy Valley opens. With the two new coasters I discovered in Wuhan, I have now found 66 coasters that weren't listed on any coaster census. I have just entered Heping Park. I came to Heping Park to ride the mouse coaster, but it is now gone. Turns out I can ride a coaster at Heping Park after all. Heping Park has an Outer Space Flying Car type coaster that doesn't have a helix. This small coaster was enjoyable. Heping Park had some bumper cars. The Paratrooper is Heping Park's biggest ride. I am now at Wuhan Zhongshan Park. This is one of the many beautiful scenes in Wuhan Zhongshan Park. The Carousel at Zhongshan Park is nice. This barnstormer ride looked like fun, but I didn't have time to try it. This was one of the many rides found in Wuhan Zhongshan Park. This became my 725th coaster. It is called Flying Saucer. What is this? It is In The Woods Flying Mouse. I finished my visit to Zhongshan Park with the High Altitude Roll Slider. I had enough time to visit the Wuhan Zoo before the day was over. This lake was in the zoo. What is this castle for? The zoo had an amusement park. This pirate ship was one of only two rides left at the zoo. The zoo also has this coaster that has since closed. After taking this picture I left.
  14. This morning I got up and went to two parks in Zhuhai in Guangdong, China. This is close to Hong Kong and Macau. My first park was a park called Jingshan Park. This park has several rides including an alpine coaster. I didn't ride the alpine coaster because it was very expensive-even by American standards (don't look at me like I'm some kind of poverty-stricken @$$hole as the alpine coaster was about 10 USD for one ride). There are several rides here, inlcuding bumper cars, a pirate ship and others. In all, Jingshan Park is very nice. After visiting Jingshan Park, I walked across the street to Haibin Park. I found the park's Outer Space Flying Car to have been closed less than three weeks ago. Luckily, I rode this coaster last year. The coaster is not going to operate anymore. Even though this was a kiddie coaster, I liked it because the tire-propelled lift directly out of the station made it feel like a mini launch. I was thinking Kings Island could add one of these and call it Flight Of Fear Jr. The management of Haibin Park was wise enough to know that if it is going to remove the coaster, that the park must have a new coaster. At the opposite side of Haibin Park's rides area, a new coaster called Fruit Worm Train has been built and has just opened. I didn't know about this coaster until I was walking through the park today and saw it. Fruit Worm Train is a decent ride even though it was designed for families. I got two circuits for 6 yuan. Fruit Worm Train became my 723rd coaster. I took a few photos of other rides before leaving the park. I have now discovered 64 roller coasters that weren't on the RCDB or any other coaster census at the time I found them. I have arrived at Jingshan Park. Jingshan Park has this beautiful lake. A Jeff Johnson credit is a resident of Jingshan Park. Jingshan's pirate ship looked great. This haunted house looked interesting from the outside, but was very cheesy. This swing ride appeared to be a new ride. Jingshan Park had some bumper cars as well. I refused to pay almost ten dollars to go on this. I took a photo of Haibin Park's carousel when I arrived there. Haibin's rocket ships are new. Here is Haibin Park's SBNO Outer Space Flying Car, which will soon be removed. Take another look before it is gone forever. One last shot of Haibin's Outer Space Flying Car. Here is Haibin's Park's train ride. It is fun, but a bit short. Here is the station for Haibin Park's new for 2011 Fruit Worm Train. Here is a look at Haibin Park's newest ride. Here is another look at Haibin Park's best ride. Here is one last shot of Fruit Worm Train to finish the trip report.
  15. I was online a couple of days ago and found mention of something called Jindouwan Resort Villas in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China. This afternoon, I ventured out to find out more about this park as a website showed photos of two spinning coasters. There is a spinning coaster with an oval layout. It is like the one that used to be at Amazing World in Dongguan. I rode this and found the ride to be extremely short as the ride op only sent me around twice. The second coaster is a spinning mouse. It is called Self Swing Glider on a sign by the entrance. A sign above the entrance has Spinning Coaster on it. Whatever the name is, I have ridden about 20 of these things. Jindouwan Resort Villas is a very nice park that has several rides, a zoo and a lake. I am not sure of why it is called a resort. There are no motels here. It is an urban amusement park and a very busy one at that. I have now discovered 63 coasters that were not previously on any coaster census. I hope I find at least 100. I have arrived at Jindouwan Resort Villas. Here is Jindouwan's carousel. The park had this small wheel called Skyscraping Ferris Wheel. This is the Holy Haunted House. This sounds like an oxymoron. This ride, whatever it is, was closed today. Jindouwan has this barrel roll thing. Here is a spinning coaster. It is time to ride the Self Swing Glider. Here is a shot of Jindouwan's biggest coaster. This building was in the center of the park. The bumper cars are a lot of fun. Jindouwan had this mini Rockin' Tug ride. Here are some boats on Jindouwan's lake to finish up this trip report.
  16. I will not count coasters that are SBNO like the Nara Dreamland coasters or Eagle's Fortress (which I have ridden) and I will not count coasters that have been relocated. I will only count coasters that are completely lost. Coasters like Raging Wold Bobs which have part of the structure still standing will not be included on this list. 1. Hercules 2. King Cobra 3. Double Loop 4. Villain 5. Mad Mouse (Lakemont) 6. Two Face 7. Hurricane (Pavilion) 8. Big Bad Wolf 9. Fujin Ragin II 10. Daidarisaurus 11. Atomic Coaster (Seoul Dreamland) 12. Atomic Coaster (Mitsui Greenland) 13. Jet Coaster (Seoul Dreamland) 14. Dragon (Seoul Dreamland) 15. Wabash Cannonball 16. Chaos 17. Screamin' Delta Demon 18. Jet Coaster (Jayuland) 19. Dragon Coaster (Woncheon Lake Land) 20. Dragon (Woncheon Greenland) 21. Camelback (Janggye Resort) 22. Scooby's Ghoster Coaster (King's Island) 23. Super Saturator 24. Wild Rails 25. Mild Thing 26. Superspeed Cocobear 27. Roller Coaster (Beijing Amusement Park) 28.Crazy Mouse (Tobu Zoo) 29. Linear Gale 30. Dragon (Sendai Highland) 31. Geopanic 32. Shockwave (Six Flags Great America) 33. Dragon (Misaki Park) 34. SL Coaster 35. Screechin' Eagle 36. Pedro's Mouse 37. Jet Coaster Super Dolphin 38. Starliner 39. Thunder Eagle 40. Iron Ore Mine Cart 41. The Brat 42. Steel First 43. Thunderbolt Express There are probably others that I forgot and there are probably parks in Asia that have closed since I visited them, but these are the ones I can think of.
  17. Try 6 hours and 45 minutes for Son of Beast in May of 2000. I had visited KI four times that year before getting to ride. I once made the comment that I would get on Millennium Force before I got to ride Son Of Beast. For those that do not remember SOB opened almost a month before MF, but there were issues with the ride. The day I took my first ride, I got in line shortly after 11:30am and there were about 100 people ahead of me. I got in line at this time as the park announced a 12:00pm opening time for the ride. The ride didn't open until well after 6:00pm. In total, I spent about 6 hours and 45 minutes in line for SOB for my first ride...and there were only about 100 other park guests ahead of me in line.
  18. I am sad to read about this. He is now with the Eagle's Fortress.
  19. China is indeed weird, but it is weird in a good way. Jianghui is in a beautiful location with a lot of trees and a lake. Locals probably do not even notice that Jianghui's mouse is the same as the one at the nearby East Lake Park.
  20. I woke up this morning and headed to Jiangmen in Guangdong in China. About a month ago, I learned of a park there called Jianghui Amusement Park. The park was not on the RCDB at the time I learned about it. The park is a wonderful traditional park that is, by Chinese standards, well-kept. The gondolas on the ferris wheel are new. There is a new kiddie ride there and most of the older rides look decent. There is a mouse coaster there that is like several others I have ridden. Most small parks in China just have a mouse coaster and nothing bigger. This is okay though as I love mouse coasters. There is also a powered coaster called Golden Dragon. The helix on Golden Dragon is taken at a decent speed. There is a nice log flume with the shortest flume boats I have ever seen. There is also a dark ride with dinosaurs (Cedar Fair doesn't have anything on the Chinese) and it cost only 5 yuan (75 cents) to ride through and look at dinosaurs, which is a much better value than the dinosaur attractions Cedar Fair has been building. There are two Jeff Johnson credits at Jianghui Amusement Park and other rides, including a Paratrooper and a moon cars ride. It is a very nice park that sits just outside of the city of Jiangmen and not far from Jiangmen's East Lake Park (Donghu Park). Welcome to today's adventure I think I know where to go here. Here is Jianghui's Golden Dragon. Here is part of the Golden Dragon's layout. Here is the Dragon in action. This is the ride I came here for. I took this photo from inside the station area. Here is a good view of a lot of the mouse's layout. Here is another view of the mouse. I took this shot while riding. All parks need one of these. This Top Spin knockoff was a new ride. I think this ride came from Australia. There was an advertisement on the arm of the ride for an Australian company. This game stand was at the park. A dinosaur overlooks Jianghui's dark ride. This one must have gotten loose from a Cedar Fair park. I love these moon car rides. The park had this Jeff Johnson credit. The park also had a second Jeff Johnson credit. This flume ride has this smallest boats I have ever seen on a flume. This was a new ride. A spinning coaster like the one Amazing World at the South China Mall used to have once stood in this spot. Here are the footers that remain from the spinning coaster. I took this shot of the ferris wheel before saying goodbye to Jianghui Amusement Park.
  21. The SLC will open at noon and the other coasters will open when the park does-at least this is how is was on my last visit. I think the hotel near the train station that SharkTums mentioned may be the Shangri La. It is expensive. Home Inn offers a good deal on rooms and there are several of these in Shenzhen. I was just in Shenzhen this past weekend and while I can see some validity to SharkTums comments on the city, I would like to share an experience I had there this past Saturday night. I went with two friends to a karaoke place and while I was there, MP3 player fell out of my pocket. I walked out not knowing this. I went out of the building crossed the street and someone tapped me on my shoulder. I turned around to see a worker from the karaoke place holding my MP3 player. He followed me to make sure I got it back. I also remember meeting some very cool people (other guests) at the parks there who were very helpful. Lastly, I remember being popular with the ladies as they all were wanting to do something with me-see the comment about being solicited for something illegal. Bullet Coaster is being advertised on commercials, but I am very certain it isn't open yet. Enjoy Happy Valley's one train operation on each coaster.
  22. As long as I can explore Asia, I will be posting these photo trip reports.
  23. When I went there last November, the mall was hosting a pet show and had a nice crowd. Saturday, the mall still had a crowd, but it was a typical day. There were no special events going on. I ate at the KFC at the mall on Saturday. I ate at 4:30pm or so and while it wasn't packed, it had a decent crowd considering that it was not lunch or dinner time. We also need to remember that Amazing World couldn't add anything new if there was a serious lack of business.
  24. Here is some more info about the mall. The Pizza Hut and Mcdonald's are both still at the mall next to Amazing World. The mall still does not have that many stores. This is the result of the mall being out in the suburbs and not being located closer to the city center. Fewer than 20 businesses were located in the mall when it opened. The mall has room for 2000 stores. There is a skating rink and a cinema there.
