  1. The second photo of the mouse was taken while I was riding. I actually like going to parks on days like this. The weather keeps people away.
  2. There were several people in the park. There were a few people hanging around the rides. There were employees, but they were hanging around together and I had to go ask them to run the rides for me. If you look at the photo of the bumper cars, you will see some people. One of them was a lady who was running the bumper cars. I think I saw four other people riding things while I was there. It was a very cold day and not too many people were hanging out, but there were some people there. I will try to get more photos of people during future park visits.
  3. I left Hong Kong this morning to go back to mainland China to visit the city of Jiangmen. My reason for visiting Jiangmen is because I wanted to go to Donghu Park. In English, Donghu is East Lake. This park is very beautiful and the grounds are well-kept. There are several rides near the center of the park, including a Mouse coaster, powered coaster, carousel, log flume, ferris wheel and others. The Mouse coaster was the same model I have ridden at several other Chinese parks. This was the only ride that was had a nice paint job on it in the entire park. The other rides are not kept up very well. The mouse became my 675th coaster. I also rode the powered coaster, moon cars and bumper cars and took some photos. This is a nice park and if you are ever in Jiangmen, you should check it out. Here is the park I will visit today Here is the lake A bridge inside Donghu Park Inside Donghu Park This was in the park Here is the amusement park area and the ferris wheel This was my first ride of the day. It looks like it hasn't been very well-kept. The park had this Paratrooper type ride. This ride was in the park What is this? It is another mouse coaster for me to ride I like these, but I have ridden so many of these lately. Here is a look at the mouse Another look at the mouse One more mouse photo before I move on The flume ride was closed today I love these They have a carousel at Donghu Park They have a powered Dragon coaster The track is very rusty One more Dragon photo He sure is ugly. This was the dark ride at Donghu My last photo at the park before leaving.
  4. I know they didn't own the coaster when they started collecting donations. If they made an attempt to purchase the coaster and believed that the purchase would be finalized, they probably will not have to worry about anything as long as they return the money.
  5. I do not think any legal action could be taken against them if they are offering refunds. As long as they are offering refunds and make good on the offer, they should be safe.
  6. Kat and Kiwi were stupid enough to think that the intial step they took was enough to secure ownership. A couple of years ago, I was contacted by CBS Records to submit a demo. I didn't go around telling people that I was about to sign a recording contract with CBS. I told people I had submitted a demo to CBS and that was it. I would have had a lot of explaining to do when CBS never released anything by me. Kat and Kiwi should have known better than to claim ownership before the sale became final. There is always a possibility that things could not work out.
  7. I would like to say that Kat and Kiwi probably had honest intentions. I think they just didn't research this enough. Anyone should know that buying a coaster and moving it is going to be a process. It isn't like Kat and Kiwi were buying groceries or painting a room together. This was a much more massive undertaking. They simply didn't think this through.
  8. Q: What are Thomas Etheredge and Bernie Madoff expecting for Christmas? A: Kat and Kiwi
  9. This is but a small victory. I have the feeling we are going to wake up one morning surrounded by Chinese people.
  10. This will be a stand up coaster. A quick talk with someone at Ocean Park (I live 20 minutes away from there) revealed that they were wanting to build something that no other park in this region of the world had. For those who are wondering about Ocean Park's current Arrow coaster, it is safe. That thing usually has at least a one hour wait when I go there. The park is trying to expand to stay ahead of Hong Kong Disneyland. It would not be wise of them to remove anything at this point unless a ride costs too much to maintain.
  11. Space 2000 Atomic Coaster at Gyeongju World. My own personal name for it is Space 2000: The B---- Slap Coaster. I visited Gyeongju World nearly 130 times and I think I rode this coaster about six times total in nearly 130 visits. It is a horrible coaster that should be melted down without delay. Too bad they just gave it a paint job and renovated the thing. It didn't get any better after the renovation.
  12. Here is some info for you. Window of the World is owned by OCT-the same company that owns the Happy Valley Parks. There are two Window of the World parks. One is in Shenzhen and this one is in China. The theme of both parks is minature models of famous landmarks around the word. Window of the world in Shenzhen has a working model of Niagara Falls, NYC, the White House, pyramids and other monuments and landmarks. At the Changsha park there are models of things like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. the Changsha park also has a lot more rides than the Shenzhen Park. Perhaps the reason for this is Happy Valley Shenzhen is located across the road from Window of the World.
  13. I had a great time up there. The most interesting part of the weekend wasn't the parks. It was the train ride through Hunan province. Along the way, the world's fastest conventional train passed many little rural communities. People lived in these places and I saw people outside, but I didn't see very many cars. They had roads leading up to the houses, but there was simply a lack of cars. This must have been a poor part of China. The city of Changsha is a nice place.
  14. I spent Christmas weekend in Changsha, which is near the center of China. I visted Hunan Martyr's Park and Window of the World in Changsha. HMP is a large park that has various facilities and includes a section with amusement rides. Two of the coasters listed on RCDB have been removed over the past year, but the looping coaster which is called Roller Coaster is still there. It is a decent ride and wasn't rough like I expected it to be. There is a new Golden Horse spinning mouse called Spinning Coaster that just opened earlier this year. The Spinning Coaster hasn't been added to RCDB yet, but it soon will be. There are many other rides. The prices of the rides were kind of expensive. The coasters were 20 yuan each to ride. After being done at Martyr's Park, I went to Changsha's Window of the World, I had been to the other Window of the World in Shenzhen and I was surprised because Chansha's version is a full-scale amusement park. There are two coasters. There is the High Altitude Sliding Coaster, which is a loop and corkscrew that seems to be falling apart and there is a spinning mouse called Spinning Coaster. There are many other rides here too. On the way back home, I stopped at Shenzhen Children's Park and rode a couple of rides. Entrance to Hunan Martyr's Park A view inside the park the park's carousel The large ferris wheel at Hunan Martyr's Park Roller Coaster Going through the loop The new for 2010 Spinning Coaster at Martyr's Park Here is the entrance to the Spinning Coaster One more look at the the Spinning Coaster I wonder what this ride was It has seen better days I guess it could have been anything Here is the entrance to Changsha's Window of the World The carousel was like the one at Martyr's Park They had a castle in the park They had the Spinning Coaster and it had a long wait Another look at the spinning coaster High Altitude Sliding Coaster Everything is made in China these days One more look at this coaster before leaving I stopped at Shenzhen Children's Park to ride the Golden Dragon Tackle to finish my trip
  15. Check out my trip report from a week and a half ago to see the mascot at Nansha Tianhougong to see what their mascot looks like. Nansha Tianhougong's management really went out of the way to come up with something totally original.
  16. Not at all. It is a cat with very large ears. Remember the park in Beijing a few years ago?
  17. Foshan Amusement Park actually has a nice water park. The entrance needs fixed up a bit. I wonder if the locals notice that the mouse at Foshan Amusement Park is a mirror image of the one at Zhongshan Park.
  18. I woke up very early on November 28, 2010 to go to Guangzhou and Foshan in China's Guangdong province. I took the train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou and then took the metro up to Renhe station, which is close to Sun Island Amusement Park. When I got to Sun Island, I knew before going onto the parking lot that this park had closed a long time ago. The entrance still stands, but inside the park appears to be gardens (where they are growing vegetables) and people appear to be living on the park grounds. Needless to say, my day was not off to a good start. I then took the train to Foshan where I visited Leigang Park. Leigang Park was home to an alpine coaster as well as a small amusement area. It appears that both have been removed as I walked through the entire park and didn't see a sign of either. The park is still a quiet place to go and relax. After Leigang Park, I went to Foshan Amusement Park. They have a wild mouse coaster and a kiddie coaster here. Both coasters were fun. There is also a ferris wheel, train ride, moon cars and even a large water park at Foshan Amusement Park. Admission was free with rides costing 10 yuan each. After finishing at Foshan Amusement Park, I took a short cab ride to Foshan's Zhongshan Park. There are Zhongshan Parks all over China and they are large city parks. Some Zhongshan Parks have amusement areas. There is an amusement area in Foshan's Zhongshan Park. The mouse coaster here become my 666th coaster. That is an odd milestone, but one I have to mark. There is also a powered coaster here, a log flume and several other rides. Admission to Zhongshan Park is free. I had a great time at the parks and I am happy that the ride ops allowed me to use my camera on the coasters. Too bad the ride ops on Zhongshan's flume wouldn't allow me to take the camera on the ride. I guess water and cameras do not mix. If you are ever in Foshan, check out these parks. Here is the entrance for Sun Island in Guangzhou. I was a few years too late. It closed a long time ago. Here is Foshan Amusement Park. I have the feeling that not too many coaster nuts have heard of this place. Just inside the gate is this nice ferris wheel. Foshan Amusement Park also has this nice pirate ship ride Here we have a ride called the Moon Cars. They are common at Chinese amusement parks. Here is the entrance to Foshan Amusement Park's kiddie coaster Here is a view of part of the layout of the kiddie coaster Another shot of the layout Heading up the lift. Thankfully cameras are allowed on rides at Foshan Amusement Park. One more look at the kiddie coaster Here is Foshan Amusement Park's Mouse Foshan's Mouse This is a good view of the mouse Another look at the mouse I took this on the lift hill One more Mouse photo before I leave Here is an entrance for Foshan's Zhongshan Park I liked this waterfall in Zhongshan Park Here is Zhongshan Park's Merry-Go-Round Here is the entrance to Zhongshan's mouse-my 666th coaster The mouse is headed up the lift This friendly looking mouse is my 666th coaster. Heading up the lift of my 666th coaster A view of the mouse from the lift hill. Here is another view of the mouse from the lift. One more view from the lift. Zhongshan Park in Foshan also had this powered Dragon coaster. Here is a view of the Dragon at Zhongshan Park One more look at Zhongshan Park's Dragon to finish my day.
  19. Not only is living in Asia a great way to visit and see these parks, it is also a great way to find parks and coasters that were not on any known coaster census such as Roller Coaster Database. I have found many parks and coasters in Japan, Korea, China, Vietnam and Sri Lanka that were unknown to those who keep a record of which parks and coasters that exist.
  20. The kiddie coaster (Mini Train) at Guangzhou Zoo has a lot of lateral forces. It totally surprised me. The best way to describe it is take the Coney Island Cyclone and pack its thrills into about 300 feet of track.
  21. I spent this weekend in Guangdong visiting four parks. On November 20, I visited Nansha Tianhougong, Spaceflight Spectacle and the Guangzhou Zoo. On November 21, I visited Shenzhen Children's Park. My first park was Nansha Tianhougong. I was mad to discover the powered coaster was closed. I was about to walk out when I decided to walk through the park and see what rides were there. I am happy to report that there are two mouse coasters here. One appears to be a very early Golden Horse spinning coaster...or a Chinese knock-off of a Chinese knock-off. The car I rode in didn't make it back to the station without the help of the ride op. The second mouse was a non-spinning coaster that was very good. After leaving Nansha, I went up into Guangzhou to visit Spaceflight Spectacle, which is also called Spaceflight Happiness World. There is a spinning coaster here. It is the same Golden Horse spinning mouse that is so popular across China. I rode the coaster and took some photos. This park is very run-down. I am afraid it will close sooner or later. Nanhu in Guangzhou is well-kept compared to Spaceflight Spectacle. Some areas of Spaceflight Spectacle looked like a back alley while other areas looked like a dump. I went to Guangzhou Zoo later in the afternoon. There are two coasters here. The Forest Flying Mouse is like several other mouse coasters I have ridden. The Mini Train has a train that resembles a Wacky Worm and features a ride that resembles the Cyclone at Coney Island. I took some photos of some of the other rides here too. On Sunday morning, I went to Shenzhen Children's Park. This park features a powered coaster called Golden Dragon Tackle. The coaster was not open, so I didn't get to ride it. It is same as the powered coasters at Shenzhen's Zhongshan Park and Shenzhen's Donghu Park. There are several other rides here including a log flume and a ferris wheel. Welcome to Nansha Tianhougong The Dragon Coaster The Dragon was closed today Hopefully I will ride it next time They have a flume ride here This is either an early spinning coaster from Golden Horse or a Chinese knock-off of a Chinese knock-off. There is a non-spinning mouse here This mouse is excellent One last look at the mouse This is Nansha Tianhougong's mascot. It is a cat with very large ears. Welcome to Space Flight Happiness World AKA Spaceflight Spectacle Carousel at Spaceflight Spectacle I walked across this twice There is a spinning coaster here Another look at the coaster. These spinning coasters are fun. Spaceflight has a Tagada Here is the Forest Flying Mouse at Guangzhou Zoo I have grown to like this particular type mouse coaster. There are several of them in China. One more look at the mouse This is no Wacky Worm It looks like it is for kids, but it is really a fantastic ride This coaster should be in every park There is a flume ride at the Guangzhou Zoo Moon Cars at Guangzhou Zoo-arguably a coaster as they coast forwards and backwards after the power is turned off at the end of the ride. Welcome to Shenzhen Children's Park The Ferris Wheel at SCP Every park should have a one of these Here is the Pirate Ship ride at SCP They have a nice flume at Shenzhen Children's Park The powered Golden Dragon Tackle Too bad the Dragon was closed today
  22. I went to Zhuhai early this morning to visit some parks in Zhuhai and Zhongshan. My first park of the day was the only high point of the trip. The Quanlin Resort is in the neighboring city of Zhongshan and has a powered coaster and a mouse coaster. The mouse is called In The Woods Flying Mouse. I rode it and surprisingly, it was pretty smooth. This mouse is well-maintained. I couldn't find the powered coaster as it sits in an area away from the main amusement rides. A directory didn't list the powered Dragon coaster at the park, so I missed this one. I will go back at some point and ride it. There is a log flume at Quanlin Resort that looks like it closed a long time ago. I took a couple of pictures of it. Part of it no longer stands. The park reminded me a lot of some of the parks I visited in Korea. My second park was in the city of Zhongshan and is called Zimaling Park. Zimaling Park opened in 1993 and is a massive city and recreation park. There is an amusement park section to the park and after a great deal of walking, I found the rides. I am sad to report that the rides have not be in operation for a while. There is a tree growing through the lift of the mouse coaster. There is a kiddie coaster called Loop The Loop. I took some photos of some of the rides and some of the scenery and then left. I was disappointed. On the way back to Zhuhai, I stopped at Pearl Land. I was here three weeks ago and the two big coasters were closed. They were closed today. I left without even going into the park. The coasters usually do not run on days the park is not crowded (most days). Pearl Land could be a nice park, but they need to run the coasters. They show the coasters in their promotional material and on the website. This park is a total joke. I would much rather visit the nearby Haibin Park. At least the coaster there is not SBNO. If you go to China, do not waste your time and money on Pearl Land. The main coaster at Quanlin Resort Another view of the coaster Another shot of the coaster Quanlin's flume has seen better days A view in Zimaling Park Fountains at Zimaling A bridge that leads the way to the rides Zimaling's SBNO Mouse Another mouse photo The tree is growing through the lift hill Another shot of the mouse This mouse is rusting away One last look at the mouse Kiddie coaster at Zimaling Park. This is called Loop The Loop even though it has no inversions. Another photo of Loop The Loop
  23. The layout of the looping coaster could easily be described as a modified version of the Flip Flap with an extra helix. It is a very basic ride and despite the intensity and roughness of the loop, it is pretty smooth.
  24. I got up early this morning to go from Hong Kong to China's mainland. This required me going through Immigration at Shenzhen even though Hong Kong is now part of China. My destination today was the city of Dongguan. I had plans to visit two parks. The first park I visited was Changping Tielu Park. This park has no entrance fee and features about 10 rides. One ride is a Wild Mouse coaster. I do not know the name of this ride as I can't read Chinese and there was no English name on the sign. This mouse is like the ones I rode last weekend at Jinying Park and Xiaofantian Paradise when I visited Guangzhou. This mouse coaster was originally located nearby at Yinxian Resort. Yinxian Resort would be the second park of the day. RCDB lists Yinxian Resort as DaiXia Garden, but the English wording on the entrance here says Yinxian Resort. Yinxian Resort has undergone a makeover in the last few years. It is a very big area, but the amusement rides are located in only one section of the park. There used to be rides scattered throughout the resort. There were two coasters here at one time. The mouse was moved to Changping Tielu Park, according to an employee I spoke with and the powered coaster has been removed. There is a larger steel coaster here that is odd. It looks like an Arrow or Vekoma single loop coaster, but it runs a 6 car train and each car only seats two riders. This coaster is simply named Roller Coaster. A sign at the entrance to the ride calls it Roller Coaster and park maps also call it Roller Coaster. The loop on Roller Coaster was very painful, but I had no problem with the rest of the ride. Roller Coaster was bought as a second-hand ride for Yinxian Resort. I do not know which park it came from, but I have never ridden or seen another coaster like this one. I wish they would give Roller Coaster a new paint job as the park has some really nice garden areas and the selection of rides is pretty nice. The best part about Yinxian Resort is the admission price. It costs 50 Yuan (roughly $7.50 USD) to enter and ride the rides. The park also had very long lines as I waited about an hour to ride the coaster. After riding the coaster and walking through the park, I took a long walk back to the train station and came back to Hong Kong. With the two coasters I have added to my track record today, I have now ridden 647 different coasters. Changping's Mouse Another shot of the mouse Another view of the mouse Roller Coaster at Yinxian Resort A shot of Roller Coaster's Lift Hill Notice that the loop is smaller on this coaster than it is on other coasters
