If you think the wrapping/moving billboard look will end when Tron: Legacy comes out, think again. When Disneyland first wrapped its Mark V Monorail, it was to promote the new Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. It was to make only one of the three working Mark V's look like one of the Subs. Then, Disney got it in its head to wrap ALL monorails in the "Year of a Million Dreams" blue/white frilly clouds look. Those wraps were never taken off the Mark V's. If the Mark VII's hadn't come online to replace the YOAMD-wrapped Mark V's, we could very well still be seeing wrapped monorails here instead of the current sleek & sexy look of the Mark VII's. The only reason that Disneyland's Mark VII Monorails aren't wrapped in advertising is because of a hard-fought internal battle to keep the wrappings off Disneyland's shiny, new Mark VII Monorail trains. To see this same shenaniganry come to WDW is a quite a shame. The traditional look of the Monorail is one of those small, special little immersive tidbits of the experience of going to Disneyland or WDW. Covering that over for advertising, be it for a theme park promotion, a movie, or whatever, marks a loss that will likely never be recovered. I hope the traditional look comes back, but it didn't happen in Disneyland because they fell in love with wrapping the monorail, even though the locals hated seeing it. We'll see what kind of backlash, if any, comes from this. WDW'ers might wish they had the balloons in the windows back after this wrapping goes on for a while.

I don't think this kind of rehab is going to end with Texas Giant, especially if it's a success. It may be time for a third category of coasters since these steel rails on wood structure coasters aren't 100% wood or steel. I'd call them 'hybrid' coasters since they are really a fusion of both wood and steel.

I sure wouldn't want to be stuck on those trains for nearly 30 minutes. Put the ride closures together with the crowds and together with the ShowPass concept, and there's a lot to be concerned about with this show. There could be a few thousand happy people watching the show, but there could also be nearly twice as many rather angry people about how they couldn't ride the ride they wanted, or had no idea that they needed to get a special ticket in order to gain entry to the show's prime viewing area, or didn't care about any show and just wanted to get somewhere around the Paradise Pier area. That could be a rather ugly situation. Robb's post has me curious. What about IllumiNations set it apart from all the other shows?

Losing DEP is actually a good move for DCA in the sense that the nighttime parade will not be a hinderance for people flooding into DCA for World of Color. World of Color would be going off right about when DEP was to end if the two were to be both running on the same night, and that could have been an ugly situation. I'd be interested to know what this summer fireworks special is given how Wishes was so intertwined with the restaurants at the Polynesian & Contemporary hotels. Hopefully the people paying a ton of money & planning these special dining experiences months in advance are not let down because they're seeing what might be just a seasonal offering instead of the familiar Wishes experience.

The SFMM team has already proven themselves fully capable of removing coasters because of upkeep cost concerns. Freefall, Flashback, Psyclone... If there was another ride that actually did fall into that category, I doubt you'll be sitting around wondering for any length of time whether it costs too much in maintenance to continue operation. Viper was constructed long after Six Flags bought Magic Mountain.

The weather also caused the Grapevine to be shut down. That doesn't happen in just any rain storm. It rained really hard overnight last night, then tapered off a little bit as the sun came up, but still rained up until and through when the call to close it down was made. While Knott's does close at even a threat of drizzle, to lump SFMM into that category because of today is, IMO, a hair towards the unfair side. Believe me, no one likes it when the park is closed. It sucks. Fortunately the weather should be better tomorrow. What was it that NFL rep said the other day? "You don't make money by closing your business."? No one's having a fun time when this happens.

TPR's New Forum UPGRADE!
PeoplemoverMatt replied to Hhappy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It'll take some getting used to for sure, but you guys didn't have a whole lot of choice. I think eventually I'll learn to like this interface better than the old one. Congrats on all the hard work it took to bring this new forum from where it was when Robb first asked for input to where it is now. Awesome job! -
TPR's 2011 Trips Questionnaire!

I was also slightly amused/curious that Fuji-Q made the "Best of Japan" list but Tokyo Disney is an add-on. It probably has more to do with costs than anything, but it's still kinda funny to see that. -
No refurbishment is a waste of money, unless seeing top notch thrill rides die way before their time is something you enjoy. S:TE may not be the innovative record-breaker that it was when it first opened, but it's still a perfectly legitimate & very fun ride. Some people on this site forget how spoiled they really are sometimes...
