  1. CoasterFanatic, if you end up not going to SFNE and Compounce, come on out and meet up with us. It'd be cool to get a bunch of people from TPR together out in PA. Justin
  2. So I get off of work at 1pm on Friday and I thought, what should I do with my weekend? Seeing as how my girlfriend is visiting her parents out of town, I thought, "I'll drive to Knott's and try out Silver Bullet." So that's what I'm planning on doing. Anyone up for meeting up? Hit me back and let me know. I figure Knott's on Saturday and maybe SFMM on Sunday morning before I head back home in the afternoon/early evening. Justin
  3. Dude, I'd love to but I'm flying out to Southern California that weekend for a stupid wedding. It's also the weekend of my 30th birthday, so you can suspect that I'm not too thrilled about attending a wedding for my birthday. My girlfriend has some SERIOUS a$$ kissing to do for this one... I can't even go to a park down there that weekend. Although I am hitting up a Dodgers game for the first time, so that should be fun. Have a good time though, we need to hit up SFMW or PGA sometime soon. 8) Justin
  4. I have no idea where to find pictures, but I'd like to see: Williard's Whizzer from PGA Adventures through Inner Space from DL
  5. Barry H, Oakland has quite a bit going for it, actually. If this park opens up, it will join the Oakland A's, the Chabot Space and Science Center, the newly remodeled and revamped Oakland Zoo (complete with kiddie coaster), the Oakland Museum, and the number of crack houses and gangsta ghettos as a marquee attraction for the city. People always think of Oakland as just a bunch of ghettos, but if you actually take the time to explore you'd find my neighborhood and the surrounding areas near the lake to be awesome for families and young people. The Piedmont and Montclair areas are really nice and very expensive to live, and Rockridge and the College Ave. areas near Berkeley are really nice too. There is a lot of potential for this to be a big hit for the city. Now if only we could get a new mayor in City Hall, one that would help the A's build their new stadium... 8)
  6. Both! It's going to be one helluva trip, my friend. Should be a lot of fun. I only got one ride on Nitro at SFGAdv the last time I was there, and I haven't been on Superman either. The one at SFGAm is good, so this one should be the same. Hopefully Chiller will be running, and maybe we can get in on Kinda Krap, I mean Kingda Ka.
  7. I don't see why not, I'm planning on getting them to ship me a case of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Hotel in Harrisburg has been booked, it says it's about 10 minutes from Hershey. SWEET.
  8. The article said that no thrill-type rides would be there, but I really can't imagine this concept taking off with visitors without at least one or two appealing thrill-type rides. They don't have to be major thrills, just something that will entice people to go. I think trying to make it like Disneyland in Oakland might not be the best idea, but I'm all for it. It might change our image a bit. They can have attractions like the Matterhizzle, Grand Theft Autopia, Big Murder Mountain, and It's My Baby After All... Justin -- who actually really likes this idea from the Wayans, and hopes it takes off
  9. I'm leaning more towards Hershey/Dorney and making a quick run to SFGAdv now. I think we'll be doing that trip, since it gives us more credits and a chance to catch Kingda Ka if it's running. Hydra, Steel Force, Talon at Dorney and Stormrunner, Lightning Racer and Great Bear are too sweet-looking to pass up I think. I'll hit BGW and PKD when my girl and I visit D.C. sometime in the next year or two. If anyone else is interested in joining up on the trip, there are spots available in the car. Meeting up, joining us, whatever. I'm cool with anything. Justin
  10. Only in my hometown:  http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/06/17/BAG67DAAT21.DTL Homey don't play dat!
  11. Just so you know, the Southwest sale ends at midnight tonight. I'd hate for you to want to go, only to find the prices have gone up substantially. As for the parks, I guess we can decide later if you want to do it that way. Personally, I've been looking forward to going to Busch Gardens for awhile, but Hershey and Dorney look mighty sweet. I'm down for any of them. Hershey has Lightning Racer and Storm Runner, Dorney has Hydra, Steel Force and Talon. BGW has Apollo's Chariot and Alpie, PKD has Volcano and Hypersonic. It's a tough call. Send me an email at adamsj@fcrystal.com if you want to talk this some more. Later. Justin
  12. Dude, you're more than welcome to come along. Southwest still has the deal right now from Oakland to Baltimore for $99 each way, and seats are still available on the flights I'm taking as of right now. My round-trip flight was $231, flying out at 6:45am getting into Baltimore at 4:40pm on September 2nd, and then flying back at 12:55pm getting back into Oakland at 4:30pm on the 5th. The rental car is $100 for the weekend, and I've got a $50 a night room right now in Doswell, but if I change to Hershey/Dorney/SFGAdv then that's out the door. I'm sure I could find something around that price in the Hershey/Dorney/Philly area. Hit me up if you're serious, as it stands right now I'm going solo, so I'd love some friendly company. My other buddy in Reno is looking at going too, but that probably won't pan out. Justin
  13. Ok, so here's the deal. I got a great airfare on Southwest to Baltimore for Labor Day weekend, and I've got to make a choice. Visit Hershey and Dorney (and maybe sneak into SFGAdv for a few hours if Kingda Ka is running) or visit Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Kings Dominion? I've always wanted to visit all the parks (I've been to SFGAdv already) but if you were faced with the choice, which would you choose and why? I usually don't write posts like this, because I can't stand them. However, I'm having a really hard time choosing which places to visit. If I got some other opinions, perhaps it would sway me one way or the other. :? Gracias.
  14. Nice TR, sounds like you had a good day, except for Roar and V2 being closed. I haven't been to SFMW to ride in ages, but it sounds like it hasn't changed much. Nice pic of Kong, that pretty much sums up any ride on an SLC...
  15. Honestly, the first thing I thought of when I read this in the elevator at work was, "WTF was a 4-year-old doing on a ride like Mission: Space?" Then I thought back to my time at Disney as a ride op on Star Tours, and all the times I had to argue with parents about letting their kids on the ride when they weren't quite tall enough. Even if this kid met the height requirements, there are just some rides you shouldn't take little kids on. At 4 years old, his body isn't equipped to handle extreme g-force. Hell, even people a lot older than him aren't equipped to handle extremes... This is definately a sad and tragic event, and my heart goes out to the family.
  16. I'll be 30 in three weeks, and my first coaster was Williard's Whizzer at MGA. I miss the Whizzer. I loved to Whiz at MGA. There was a time when all I wanted to do was Whiz whenever I visited the park. I just had to Whiz when I went to MGA. Then Paramount came in and said I couldn't Whiz anymore. They removed my Whizzer, and now I have to travel to Chicago if I want to Whiz. Bastards...
  17. That's one of my all-time favorite quotes. I've had some questionable top ten entries myself. Hell, when I was a kid, I thought Shizzly at PGA was a great ride!
  18. People, this is a subjective hobby. What you like won't necessarily be what the next person likes, so try to keep that in mind before you rip on someone for liking certain rides. 8) Now with that said, I can share my current top ten list: 1. Incredible Hulk 2. Millenium Force 3. Cyclops 4. Viper @ SFGAdv 5. Xcelerator 6. Raven 7. Superman: Ultimate Escape (The name when I rode in 2003) 8. Phoenix 9. S: RoS @ SFA 10. Giant Dipper @ SCBB
  19. Peeing in the bushes rocks... Nice photo TR, I wish I could've made it down for that. Looks like everyone had a lot of fun. Justin
  20. The Giant Dipper at SCBB. Still love that ride after all these years, and it was running great. I only got one ride, but that's cool. I'll go back again soon.
