  1. Boring update time: Cedar Point to purchase Sawmill? If you're not familiar, it's a resort a few miles east of the Park on Rt. 6, with a golf course and lake access. It's a pretty large chunk of property. Like a lot of things in the area, it's best days are behind it and needs a pretty significant amount of renovations.
  2. Wow, that looks awesome. I'm going to have to dig deep to put aside my hatred of the Steelers for this. It may sound silly, but I think TurnOfTheCentury is right, I think this ride is sort of being overlooked for 2019, but might turn out to be the best.
  3. 10 hours... I don't even want to imagine what that looks, or smells like... in Florida in June. Hell I've head some breathtaking experiences waiting in line for 20 minutes in Sandusky in May. Ugh. That said, looks like they have a hit with their fans. I know some people are saying it was a let down but Twitter was full of praise from what I saw.
  4. The local media is having a field day with Gatekeeper valleying, the typical coverage full of inaccuracies. But GK sure does like nice valleying when it's lights are all on. Lol. That hasn't happened to me since the changed over to the soft restraints. What a blessing. It's still there. They sold off the pinball machines and some of the older mechanical type games, but the rest is still there, including the Whack A Mole machines, which may work or just take your quarters. It's part of the thrill! Lastly, prozach, congrats to the Blues. Binnington should never have to buy a drink in STL ever again!
  5. Last year they kept running Ravine Flyer in a downpour, it made it a pretty wild ride. Thanks for the tip pryonisys, I'll check for those. If it doesn't work out no biggie.
  6. Looking forward to my 2nd ever visit to Waldameer next week, last year my girlfriend and I had a great time and this wonderful gem of a park. I was looking online with no success, but is their any discount ticket deals that anyone knows about? E.g. a particular supermarket selling tickets, or some sort of online promo code? I don't have AAA (yeah I know), actually I'm not a member of anything. We will be getting the combo passes as we both enjoyed Water World last year as well. And yes, I know I am coming across as a cheap a$$ as the park is a damn good deal anyway, but if I save a few dollars I can use it to get an extra Greek Dog across the street at Schickalay's.
  7. Having a team in the Cup Final is one of the most stressful things I've ever dealt with in my life, lol. Especially in an overtime situation when you can go from elation to utter depression in a split second. I know their are plenty of non-sports fans here who think I'm being over dramatic (and to be fair I probably am) but in the moment... oh Lord, it's a lot to handle.
  8. I finally took a ride on the Monster Trucks yesterday with my girlfriend, they were pretty fun. If you are expecting full on jumps of a hundred feet you'll be disappointed, but the course has enough obstacles where you get jostled around a bit in your restraints. It's interesting enough for someone who has no experience with that sort of thing, and it's a real hit with the kids. Frontier Festival - meh. In previous years, Brew & BBQ was a crazy good deal. I think Platinum Pass holders got 20 tickets for like $20. Well with the name change came a price change. 20 tickets are $30 for pass holders, $35 regular. Food samples are tiny. I had some wings and some chicken drums, and they were good, but there wasn't a lot of them. My girl had loaded mac and cheese which she said was good, and some sort of dessert thing from Miss Keats Sweet which she liked, but once again it was a tiny amount. I will say they really did a nice job with decorating the area, with a sunflower theme (tied into Maria's Fields of Hope which is a cool charity they are supporting) and they had actors in entertainment scattered about. Just don't go in expecting to get a full meal, even with 20 tickets. However... if you are looking to drink a few beers (or wine or whatever), a 12 oz beer is 3 tickets. So for $30 you can get 6 beers which translates to about $5 a beer, which is a damn steal at the park. Go on kids, get duffed and save money! ERT was Dragster and Magnum. I avoided Dragster at the beginning because a) I knew most people would head there first and b) the worst of the worst of the worst enthusiasts were camping outside the line well before ERT opened. Blah. I took 5 rides on Magnum which were mostly douchebag free, except for the one dude who started b!tching the second we hit the trims and continued to b!tch at the ride ops when we got back to the station. I hate this dude and hope he gets a paper cut on his bag today. Eventually I wandered over to Dragster and got 2 rides as the crowd thinned, it appeared most of the hardcore "Ride Warriors" were behaving, so that was a relief. So correct on all levels, lol. I actually have started to like Valravn in the back row, it took me 3 years to figure that out. I'm glad you all had a nice trip, in spite of this rather lousy weather we've had. (I hate to say this, but yesterday was perfect and today is looking like the same.) I would like to say I'm sorry your Blues had a rough go of it on Sunday but... I mean I hate Boston sports, Boston fans are annoying, I just don't like them. But as a Blackhawks fan the sight of the Blue Note... after nearly 30 years of watching the Hawks and Blues beat the ish out of each other during the regular season makes it impossible for me to root for St. Louis. Sorry, I don't know you, you seem like a nice enough dude, but I can't do it. This is almost as bad as having to watch the Steelers and Ravens play each other.
  9. According to queue-times.com Fury is currently open with a 10 minutes wait. JJ you'll have a great time I'm sure, as I enjoyed my trip back in April. I was fortunate that the park emptied out at night, so I got a lot of rides in the final hour. Fury 325 is a masterpiece, Copperhead Strike was a lot of fun, Afterburn is a great ride, especially at night. Towards the end of the night, swing by CS if you can and check the line for yourself. Maybe it was just the time of year I went but even though the app said a 40 minute wait, it was a walk on. And the CS crew was really hustling to get the trains dispatched. Have fun!
  10. Step 1: Forbidden Frontier Step 2: ??? Step 3: PROFIT
  11. ^ lol wait until July or August, when Cedar Point announces "New for 2020: New LED lights on Corkscrew!", the fanboys who have convinced themselves that they were getting two 400 ft dueling coasters start freaking out. That will be quite entertaining.
  12. I'll quote what I wrote not long ago in the Carowinds thread about Fury: People are going to complain about this already? Seriously? What the hell is wrong with people. I'll be making the 3 hour drive next summer to ride this, no doubt. I'm happy for the sane KI fans who are getting the coaster they have been waiting for.
  13. I had a nice day at the park yesterday. Parked in the CPS lot and on my way back saw SV had two trains on the transfer track and no workers were in the station, so quickly abandoned my plans to head back there. Coming up to the gate the had a sign that said SV was closed and Magnum would be taking its place. Rode Magnum once and then went over to Millennium Force for some magic gate time. Got about 10 rides in before 10:30. Tried the new BackBeatQue and had the brisket, it was pretty good and they have a few different types of BBQ sauce to drown it in. Later on in the day I tried the stromboli at Hugo's and it was pretty damn good. I saw others say on opening day their food was cold, here's to hoping that has been corrected and stays that way, but overall a much, much better experience than Midway Market. They had employees at the RR gate by SV that it would open at noon. The line started at the RR crossing and when I got in line at 11:45 it was past Miss Keat's. At 12:15 the line started moving, but that was to just shift the line into the queue for Deprivation. The finally opened the ride a bit after 12:30, and I got a back seat ride after about a 40 minute wait. After that, it was time to head open to my favorite ride in at CP, the Surf Lounge, and it was empty. I mean the bartender was thankful to have someone show up. He said he was told that only 200 rooms were booked for the night, and with the lousy weather yesterday I can believe it. I finished up the day with rides on the "mediocre" & "sleeper" Gatekeeper and Valravn. I guess I must be an idiot or just scared of the intense rides because I enjoy those coasters a lot. If you are heading to the park over the next few weeks, you might want to have a back up plan for early entry, as it is clear that they have been planning late openings for Steel Vengeance. (Rumors at the park said that it was due to the cold temperatures in the morning, but I don't know what the source for that info is.) Looking at the wait times online it seems it has not opened today, so I guess it's going to be another noon opening. I doubt they would want to carry this into the busy weekend but just be aware that it is a possibility, so you don't sprint all the way to the back of the park and see them putting water dummies on the ride.
  14. I'm so glad that after a day or being dormant, this thread explodes back to it's full glory.
  15. Oh my, I don't know if I could handle a Slyman's sandwich followed by a few runs on Steel Vengeance. For those not from the Cleveland area: Slyman's Tavern After what has been a miserable start to May weather wise, our little slice of hell finally got some sunshine yesterday afternoon, so after completing some prior obligations in the morning, I went to the park around 4pm. The weather had turned quite nice, mid 60's, not too windy (Dragster was running, more on that later), sunny, just a good day to be at the park. A few observations from my first trip of 2019: -First thing I noticed is the lake water levels are really high. The water in the marina was just below the point where it would start going into the parking lot. On the resort side, the beach looks much smaller. With water levels expected to stay high into the summer, they are going to have their work hard to maintain it, especially if a storm comes in off the lake. Also to note, I've heard that the Chaussee (aka Cedar Point Rd, aka "the shortcut") has been closed at times due to flooding, so take that at your own risk. -I guess Millennium Force ran for a couple of hours in the morning, then threw up all over itself for the rest of the day. It was closed when I went by and I didn't see any signs that it was going to open back up. Looking at the wait times online, it's open today. -Dragster, on the other hand, was kicking a$$ during my 4 hours at the park. The train ahead of me rolled back. I shook my fist at the sky and cursed the coaster gods. It was a very interesting perspective to be sitting on the train just behind the launch and watching the train come speeding at you backwards. -The Magnum tunnel effects are nice to see again, although they don't stand out too much during the day. I can see them being more fun at night. -Surf Lounge is still the most efficient ride at Cedar Point. Edit to also add this bit of minutiae: That old fleabag motel CP bought back in the winter now has a parking gate in the lot regulating traffic, so it doesn't appear to be going anywhere soon. Maybe they are renovating it for more employee housing?
  16. It varies, but most schools in Ohio seem to be starting the week of 8/19, with some school districts starting 8/12 (seems crazy to me, I would have revolted as a kid). It is my understanding that Michigan schools typically start later. Usually the week before Labor Day is unofficially known as "Michigan Week" because of this, and CP in the past has offered deals to guests coming from Michigan. That said, while the park usually isn't dead, it isn't too busy either, and is a pretty decent time to visit.
  17. Wow Hugo's looks pretty good. I am cautiously optimistic that CP has finally turned the corner on their horrendous food. Now that I've said that, I'll probably be proven so wrong, but I think I'm going to add the meal plan to my season pass. I'm not expecting the full Knoebels treatment but hopefully we will have stuff that is edible, since for years all I had any interest in was the hot dog on a stick and fresh cut fries.
  18. It does something wonderful for the soul to finally look at the webcams and see the park all light up at night after a long winter.
  19. At this point let's just tear it down. Or put the trees back up.
  20. Millennium Force is testing. Source: my eyeballs and CP webcam
  21. I've never been to this park, I'm planning on going this summer. Yet this thread is probably the most amusing on this site. Case in point, I spent way too much time laughing at the gem quoted below:
  22. Well this is totally... expected. (Courtesy of CP Rundown on Facebook)
