Chuck's Busch Gardens Williamsburg Thread
burningstroller replied to cfc's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Eh. I'm driving down from NH in a few weeks. Kind of bummed that Celtic Fyre, This is Octoberfest, Pompeii, and Europe in the Air (havent seen yet), will not be available. Also, I'm reading bad things about the condition of Darkastle. Oh well, it's a nice break from Screeemfest at Canobie Lake, which is all I have up here (and is pretty awesome, thats not a dig). A weekend of cocktails and coaster is it then. Anyone one local have any ideas of where to go late night in the Williansburg area for some sloppy, local, drinking entertainment? -
Interesting. Yep, they were still doing the first rider deal. I had totally forgotten about it then when we left the ride we were given a card to get a free t-shirt and Screeemfest pass. Not a bad day, especially with everything being walk-on. The ride looks fantastic, I'd swear they spent more money on the station and overall theming than on the actual ride. The ride, however, is a little jarring. It's smooth but the transitions are harsh.

I was at Canobie Lake yesterday and noticed something odd about the supports and footers for Untamed. The supports do not appear to be bolted into the footers, instead they are sitting on rubber pads that are placed on top of the footer. There also appears to be various areas around the supports that appear to be weighted down. I've attached the only picture that I took, you can kind of see what Im talking about at the bottom. I know this particular model is available in permanent and portable. I'm wondering if it is typical of this ride to not be permanently secured to the footers.

One of the best "roadside attractions" that remains in the country has lost its founder. A sad day for any New Englander that spent summers listening to Murray Clark, in his classic northern New Hampshire accent, narrate his very unique bear show. What grew around the show ring was not a ride park, but certainly a theme park. Still an amazing, family run, unique place to visit. *definitely worthy of the 3 hours from SFNE...so go see it!* RIP W. Murray Clark Sr. Despite his retirement from the show, he would always be sitting between the ring and the bear holding pens and would rise and wave, with a standing ovation, as he was introduced by his son as the senior bear trainer.

Finally going to Dollywood

Cool, thanks for all the info. Any must see things after the park closes? Is that Ripley's mirror maze any good? That intrigues me for some reason. -
Finally going to Dollywood
burningstroller replied to burningstroller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Thanks for all the info. I guess the place we are renting the "cabin" from is a preferred property and has a 2 day for the price of one pass. I just saw this a few mins ago. Even before, on the park website they mentioned a $20 second day deal. Looked good to me. I dont plan on being in the area anytime soon again, might as well get my fill. This brewery you speak of intrigues me. -
Hi, Ok, so I coerced my wife to forgo our initial vacation plan to Costa Rica in exchange for Dollywood (yes, I'm very convincing). Dollywood has always seemed to elude me. I've travelled around the world, been to most every theme park of interest in the country, yet I've never found a reason to be in eastern Tennessee. So we're off to TN the first week of Oct. I've managed to shoehorn in Graceland, a solid night of drinking on Beale Street, a couple days of hiking at the National Park, and 2 days at Dollywood. Any "must do's" in the area? Coming from NH I don't see what all the fuss is over the foliage, but from what I gather it's going to be pretty crowded. Dollywood closes really early the whole time we are there, so I was thinking of going on a Fri and Sat (they also have random operating days). What is good to check out after the park closes? Also, I'm quite accustomed to the beer and theme park combo, which sadly, I will not get to enjoy while at the dry Dollywood. Anywhere nearby for a tasty beer? Any info would be great on visiting the area during this crowded time.

TR 4/11/09 Great Adventure
burningstroller replied to burningstroller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My bad, didn't read the other posts. Irritated because, yes I knew there was a "chance of rain". But I would assume a major park at the kickoff of spring break would remain open regardless. I've been to BGE many times in the pouring rain and they've stayed open all day. And yes, I know, this isnt BGE. Mainly pissed because it's not like the park is right down the street. It's a good 5 hour ride (if I dont hit a clusterfuck on the cross Bronx). But really, closing due to low attendence? At least lie to us and say it's due to weather. Does the mall close if no one shows up? Does Disneyland close if there is low turnout? Oy. Ok, sorry, close thread. -
This is my first trip report so I'll keep it REAL short. Left Boston Friday night, headed to Jersey for the first park run of the season. Six Flags in the morning, got there at 10:30. Bought and processed AP's. Stood in El Toro station waiting for "10 more people" to show up so they could run the coaster. This didnt happen. Left and headed to the front of the park. It is now 11:30. Was then informed that the park was closing. Weekend over. No Flags, No fun. 200 for passes, 15 for parking, 2 nights at hotel, gas, and the multitude of liquor that was consumed shortly after leaving the park. Waste o' money.

I'm thinking of heading down to SFGAdv on Saturday from Boston, but don't want to get there and have to pull a Griswald if the park is closed. This might be the only weekend I can get there this season and, of course, it's going to rain. Current forecast, rain likely before noon. I know some of the smaller parks up here in New England will close if someone spits on the ground. Hoping that SF generally remains open.

What are you guys talking about? That log ride is great. It fits in perfectly with its surroundings. You don't think that a log ride that sits flush with the ground, with a natural looking flow of water is better? I think its a great improvement over the bright aqua colored elevated tubs, which most log rides are. Also, the ride station building was built using wood from the trees cleared to build the ride. -

Six Flags Flash Pass sold out?
burningstroller replied to burningstroller's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
So, is it true then that an online flashpass works any day that you go to the park, not just the day your purchased it for? I'd hate to spend 120 dollars on a flash pass that I couldnt use that day. But if I can avoid the flashpass building line, and be guaranteed a flash pass for that day...that would be great. -
