  1. Well, tomorrow is the day this new swinger is supposed to open. I keep checking the site to see if they've put it up yet, but not so much. There does seem to be a gap in place for where the photo/name will go.
  2. I’m super impressed with the localized theming on the new swing ride. Nice to see they commissioned a unique theme for the ride.
  3. Daily hive posted another article today confirming the Corkscrew is done, and being sold. The PNE spokesperson said its in preparation for the expansion as the corkscrew was right in the way of where the expansion would begin.
  4. Interesting that they put a banner up but haven't announced the ride yet. I would assume with a banner up at the entrance it must mean it will be ready to go this weekend? Also it looks like a unique and interesting design for a swing ride, I guess the old one expired? Do we think Hells Gate will operate this year?! Hah.
  5. DailyHive has had a couple PNE/Playland related articles: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/pne-amphitheatre-new-rebuild-design https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/playland-redevelopment-expansion-update-april-2019
  6. Yeah. Have a feeling they replaced the old Wave Swinger with a modern one that is aptly named.
  7. The ride ops booth has an ocean / orca motif. So ocean themed ride?
  8. That kind of looks like a new cement pad/electrical where Wave Swinger was?
  9. Oh for sure! It just seems unusual for them to be removing things right before the season starts. I’m curious if this is indicative of the expansion plan starting soon?
  10. I can’t imagine they have time to install anything new for the season. Is this the start of the expansion? Has council approved it yet?
  11. Hey look! I see me in that photo In other news I tweeted the pne and got a response:
  12. So any word on new attractions in the pipeline? Or is everything on hold while we await approval for the expansion?
  13. Well you basically confirmed what I said by "a bunch" haha! They really do bring in a bunch, but I never did say they were worth it The last few years that i've gone to the PNE I haven't done any rides, just the fair food, drinking, shows etc. The rides are too busy.
  14. The PNE brings in West Coast Amusements who fills out the ride selection with a bunch of travelling flats.
  15. Such an awesome report! Bummed you missed Come From Away, such an amazing show!!
  16. This definitely beat Remember... Dreams Come True for best Disney fireworks!! Bravo!!
  17. This definitely beat Remember... Dreams Come True for best Disney fireworks!! Bravo!!
  18. And yes, this IS exciting news to me, considering nothing else around us is open here, park-wise. http://www.pne.ca Isn't that where Hells Gate was???
  19. Last nights Celebration of Light USA entry by Disney was AMAZING. So amazing to experience Disney fireworks at home!! [fbvideonew] [/fbvideonew]
  20. They relocated the loading platform to the old unloading platform, and added some new scenes before the lift. The lifthill itself is in the same place. Attractions Magazine posted a side-by-side comparison with the old ride. That's a really cool video. I thought from the initial video the ride seemed longer and they basically made the ride about 1:15 longer without actually changing the track length. I give Disney a lot of credit for being able to pull that off. They added a bit of track as well, I believe there is new S-Bend through the old loading area. It really helps with the added time
  21. Cool! Here's hoping city council doesn't say 'nay'. http://dailyhive.com/vancouver/pne-playland-redevelopment-vancouver-theme-park And waiting for this upcoming council meeting to happen, is going to be like waiting for a particular (Dollywood) New Coaster to "open." Sadly, the PNE has denied the article that Daily Hive put out. It was on Global News. Said this concept is 10 years old, and although they are putting forward expansion plans... it'll likely be nothing like people expect of a Disney Park. http://globalnews.ca/news/2749663/reports-of-disney-like-theme-park-announced-for-playland-not-true-says-pne/
  22. Actually Cultus Lake Waterslides has been open for at least 27 years... if not longer.
  23. I think this is the right move, very similar to the "show" they do at Vancouver Aquarium... Just a short, 30 minute show, showcasing their natural habits and behaviours. More educational, with a little splashing through out. This should be much better then the Whale spectacles they used to do. A step in the right direction for the whales unable to leave captivity.
  24. I don't mean to go on a tangent, but alas... Here I go. I am trying to figure out how you define "practical effect". From all the research I've done the original effect was simply turning the black light off the head and hoping people couldn't see it. As we now know, that simply doesn't work. The audience is in far too close a proximity to the figure to ever make that work. In fact, I'd wager to say based on what you consider a practical effect, that this figure has far more a practical effect then you give it credit for. In reality the effect starts the same as the original, they just turn the light off (i.e. The projection that is lighting up the sculpted physical face that is there)... However they went a step further, and based off of video and flash photos, we can now determine that the sculpted face quickly drops into the chest of the figure, and quickly rises back into place for when it magically appears back on to his shoulders. So the end result is that this is far more complicated and far more of a practical effect then the original.
