  1. So I went to the opening day of the PNE on the 20th. Was a fun day and great having the full Fair back in action! Didn’t do rides (passes sold out and no ride coupons available), but did observe some things: The new ride is down, has been down for a couple weeks I think. Still was not up and running by PNE opening day. It looks very spiffy, nice landscaping around it. A proper marquee to enter under, nice looking ride. Coaster running, one car (of course). Can confirm seatbelts are now in use. To my surprise, they got the Log Flume up and running for the PNE - I had thought they said it would not be due to supply chain issues.
  2. Was looking at the Playland ride list online. Hellsgate and Coaster are listed, both still saying “not currently operating”. But I noticed that the launch / drop tower is completely missing on the website. I am curious if they are removing or replacing it?
  3. “VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The PNE Fair will be returning this summer, albeit in a smaller format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with some of your favourite in-person activities. This comes close to two months after it announced it would be cancelling its annual event due to the health crisis. However, with B.C.’s restart plan calling for fewer restrictions, including around crowd sizes in outdoor spaces, the PNE says it’s now able to make more plans. “We’re calling it the Fair Fundamentals. It’ll run the traditional Fair dates of Aug. 21 to Sept. 6,” explained Laura Ballance, who speaks for the PNE, who added the event will be closed on Mondays, save for Labour Day.” “And it’ll feature all the most beloved elements of the traditional Fair. The Revel District, with the stage and performances there, things like the West Coast Lumberjack Show, we’re going to have a Comedy Corner. We’re going to of course have the President’s Choice SuperDogs, things like ToonCity.” She says the Agricultural area, “one of the most important and beloved elements of the Fair,” will also be back. COVID-19 restrictions being relaxed “We’re very excited,” Ballance added, noting people should expect the Fair to be smaller than it traditionally is. “We developed a plan that was based on the protocols that we believed would be in place. So we’re focusing it as an outdoor-centred Fair, so the only indoor space will be the livestock building.” On Tuesday, the province announced that B.C. would enter the next stage of its four-part restart plan as planned on July 1. The easing of restrictions will see masks in indoor, public spaces go from “mandatory” to “recommended,” and also relaxes rules around gathering sizes, with outdoor, organized events of 5,000 people or up to 50 per cent capacity (whichever is greater) to be permitted. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.citynews1130.com/2021/06/30/pne-fair-2021-covid-19/amp/ ETA: looking at their Facebook post about the return of the PNE, someone asked about The Coaster - they replied saying they hope to have it open sometime in July. @Nrthwnd
  4. Tickets are now on sale for Playland. Have a morning or afternoon time slot to choose from. Only the kids rides are opening. “The following 12 kids & family rides will be open in July Bug Whirled Honeybee Express Choppers Kettle Creek Mine Coaster Tea Cups Cap’n KC Merry-Go-Round Balloon Explorers The Flutterbye Cool Cruzers Sea-to-Sky Swinger Pacific Adventure Golf” https://www.pne.ca/playland2020/
  5. It just dawned on me! I am going to Amsterdam March 13-18! I always heard Efteling is amazing.... should I be making this a must do? Can I do a day trip where I come down, and get back to Amsterdam the same day? Is it worth it in March? Help!
  6. I'm glad you got to Electric Fire! Was nice of them to bring back a show like this, they used to do these shows in that exact location back in the day, and then moved them to the amphitheatre when the night concerts happened where Festival Park is... then moved the concerts to amphitheatre and stopped the night show...
  7. ^ Looks like a fun day. We are heading back Saturday to get more time at the fair this year. We we're so rushed last time with rides and such, really want to stare at the glass blowing for a while... and animals! Haha. Unsure if we'll do Reveen this time, may try for Billy Idol. And the night show again maybe.
  8. Yeah that’s what I’m saying... they only have two now... which means if one fails (as it did) down to one? That’s crazy. Also I woke up this morning and thought “I wonder if they’d ever get RMC to redo Coaster?”
  9. So they only have two trains now-a-days? Which means down to one due to purple dying? Who thought that through...
  10. I do worry a bit about the swinger. When we were in line, as it came down to a stop there was a clear and sudden electric smell, like when you leave you e-brake on by accident and drive your car.
  11. Looked like a busy day! Free entry first two hours. I forgot to mention I haven’t been to Playland for rides since we road Coaster for the TPR video. So rode Bug Whirled, which is new for me. Fun little ride for sure. Also got on the new swing ride, wow that goes fast!
  12. Electric Fire sounds great! We will definitely check that out. And how about the other stuff you saw? Anything else you'd recommend, besides EF? We've seen everything before, (including drag and drag shows during Gay Days at Playland) except the glass blowers and Electric Fire. But if it's still a good show(s), we'll easily see it/them again. Superdogs was great this year. The drag show was short but fun, made me so happy to see such a mixed crowd enjoying it. Otherwise, Revel District was a fun area to hangout in. Love me the pianos.
  13. I mean, my partner and I may go again on another weekend in the evening maybe. Take some time to see things we missed. Electric Fire was great! Really glad they brought back a show like that. They haven’t had a night dance/pyro show since they moved the concerts to the amphitheatre. Great soundtrack, dancers worked hard, cool costumes, and fun effects!
  14. Ooh. Just got home from a full day at the PNE. My feet ache. Did the rides today, Log Flume went down so there went another major ride... For shows we caught the Knights of Valour, Superdogs, Love of Drag, end of Duelling Pianos, and Electric Fire. Saw the glass blowers in action. Walked through the exhibits but they are quite lame this year. I tried the Butterbeer soft serve but it’s just butterscotch ice cream. The one photo I took: Superdogs Sorry we missed you Nrthwnd!
  15. Well we have official word on what happened. https://bc.ctvnews.ca/gear-box-failure-means-vancouver-amusement-park-ride-won-t-be-open-in-time-for-start-of-pne-1.4553252
  16. Yeah we’re still going. It’s semi her bday celebration, and can still do other rides that are fun I guess. We’ll make the call once we get here as we will buy the 30% off passes through BCAA on our phone. I figure with the weather possibly being overcast and drizzly that it may be a lower crowd day. Excited to check out the return of the nightly pyro/dance show.
  17. I emailed in, sounds like they don’t know yet if Coaster will be open Saturday. Which comes across to me as a no. It’s also marked on site as closed, as is The Beast... so they just be prepping for it to be down.
  18. I also noticed a new Harvestland Festival link on the PNE site. I really hope Coaster is open Saturday... we are going to the PNE that day with friends and they insist we do rides. We normally skip ride passes during PNE time... and also unsure how weather will be.
  19. But in better news, the Aurora Winter Festival is moving from its first year at Concord Place to Hastings Park this winter, promising a bigger venue, and 6 rides this year, in addition to the tube park, and skating. https://www.pne.ca/event/aurora-winter-festival/
  20. Saw this on their twitter last night and wake up to see it made CBC. The Beast had a mechanical issue, bad timing with the India incident for public perception. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/the-beast-ride-at-playland-shut-down-after-malfunction-leaves-guests-covered-in-oil-1.5244872
  21. Have you noticed that the flags that used to top Hellevator and AtmosFEAR have been missing in action? Wonder why they removed them.
  22. I’m hearing many say the finale is in a b-mode of sorts, and more is coming. Ride has been closed all day today.
  23. Did we watch the same video!??!? The indoor tank section is like a lesser immersive version than Orlando's Kong or Supercharged and those rides are already underwhelming. And the main indoor section was just a mess. No real story or anything and just random stuff everywhere with a bad looking new dinosaur animatronic at the end. I would honestly question anyone's "opinion" who would rather have a bunch of TV screens and water sprays than a practical set with real animatronics. "Awesome" or "incredible" are absoultely not words I would imagine many people using to describe this re-do.... I’m sorry. I think it looks great. This is probably the first time I’ve been on the opposite end of the opinion spectrum from you haha. But that’s okay. I totally see your side of it.
