What is your next park?

Yes, exactly! That is also in the plans. Might do a trip report as well. -
What is your next park?
Edgar Allan Pooh replied to onewheeled999's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wanted to go to the Lagoon Amusement Park tomorrow. However, I'm also poor because I'm still in school. So I found a promo code through KUTV which saved me 20 bucks. Which is hilarious, because I don't think I've ever actually watched KUTV. Only problem is that it will only let me go from the 12th-17th of August. So it looks like I'll be going to the Lagoon on the 14th! The ticket is bought and printed, so I'm going. I just hope nothing comes up. I need this trip. I haven't been to a theme park in such a long time due to finances and crazy schedules that I feel like I can hardly call myself an enthusiast. On the bright side, that gives me more time to plan. It'll almost certainly be a solo trip - as much as I prefer going with other people, most of my college friends either don't like coasters or don't want to drop the money. Family lives nowhere near here. On the bright side, that means that I can go for all 11 hours it's open, spend time at the zoo and water park, and also have time to walk the trail before the park opens! -
Facebook and Twitter. On Facebook I pretty much accept any friend requests that don't look like bots, even if I don't know the person. I have no problem with this. If someone wants to use me to add to their enormous, ever-increasing list of fake friends, then I'm all about supporting that. I also add most people I know. But the only thing I ever do on Facebook otherwise is like things, and change my profile picture every few years. I've never updated my status because I figure that if people want to know what's going on with my life, then they can just ask me. I don't need to announce to the world that I just ate a delicious bagel, or face planted while trail running, or other uninteresting details about my life. Same logic with Twitter. I use it to follow other people, as well as websites and things that I like (like TPR). But I don't tweet much. I think the last time I tweeted was in 2012. I'm not opposed to doing it, and I might do it more in the future, but I just haven't seen a need for it. I get followed by all these spam accounts on Twitter too, which is funny. I sometimes follow them back too just because hey, you never know when I might need some discounted Christmas trees. I follow TPR on both FB and Twitter. I don't have a Snapchat, and I creep on people's Tumblrs sometimes if they blog about something that I'm interested in. But the formatting and setup of Tumblr in general has always been weird to me. It just doesn't feel like social media when I'm trying to read a blog and it's just a bunch of reposts instead of the person's own thoughts.

- Sunglasses, usually with the strap. - Wallet, with driver's license and $ of course - Water bottle - Sunscreen and moisturizer - chapstick - phone and keys - Kleenex - watch - if there's a chance it'll get chilly, a lightweight long sleeve shirt - drawstring bag to carry it all in And that's it. A bit more than average, it seems, looking over the other posts. But it tends to be sufficiently compact. I rarely bring a hat, because I usually end up taking it off on the coasters anyway. I do bring it if I know there will be long lines and I'll be standing in the sun a lot.

Tallest coaster you've been on.
Edgar Allan Pooh replied to andre8's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Superman: Escape from Krypton at SFMM. I've only ridden the new version, where you get launched backwards. After that it drops to just Goliath, and then some of the smaller hypercoasters: Xcelerator, Cannibal, and SkyRush. I'd love to get on Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka at some point, but I don't think it'll be anytime soon unfortunately. -
"Tiny Planet" - Like them or not?
Edgar Allan Pooh replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
They're kinda cool and certainly unique. But personally I'm more of a fan of the standard photo. With these, the coasters get all distorted and the track layouts are all wonky looking. I wouldn't mind if these sort of photos were used. But if I had to choose between the two, I'd stick to ordinary photos. -
Park Pet Peeves
Edgar Allan Pooh replied to MSLSM's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hmm, well… - I don’t like it when you’re forced to pay for a locker before getting on a ride. At that point, I’d rather just take my chances leaving my bag at the side of the station. Of course, free lockers or limited-time lockers are great! - Like somebody else said, when people make out in the queue line. Go make out on a bench or something; I don’t care, just don’t do it right in front of me. I don’t need to be continually reminded of my forever alone status. :V - I know that this is a ridiculous thing to get annoyed by, especially for a self-professed enthusiast. But I cannot stand long (hour or more) waits for rides. Growing up, my family only went to theme parks in October and March, pretty much, and that was before season passes were really popular. So I got spoiled, and was used to waiting 15-20 minutes or less to get on my favorite coasters. Now I get really frustrated with long lines, and it seems like parks have them now no matter what time of year it is. I remember one time we rode on Silver Bullet at Knott’s 3 times in a row because there was only ~2 people in line behind us. It was awesome. - Restraints that try to cut off your circulation. I’m looking at you, Skyrush. That ride would’ve been a lot more fun if my legs didn’t feel like they were about to fall off the whole time. Of course, I get that safety is the priority. - Bees or yellow jackets that like hanging around the queue line, or where you’re eating, or around lazy rivers at water parks. This happened at my last solo trip to the Lagoon, while I was in line for The Rocket as well as Colossus the Fire Dragon. - Unreasonably bumpy or rough roller coasters. Ghostrider at Knott’s is fun. But there is a threshold for me where it just becomes too much. Like Kong at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. That ride knocked me around so much that I had a headache afterwards. Or the old Psyclone at Six Flags Magic Mountain, which did the same thing. - When your friends don’t like theme parks, and your family lives too far away to come with you, so if you want to go anywhere you are forced to go solo. This is my situation as a college student. Doesn't help that we're all poor. - Or people that go with you, but want to leave the park after riding like 4 rides. Come on, we paid for a day pass, so we should stay for a whole day… - Rides that break down right when you’re in front of the queue, especially on crowded days. Of course, things like that will happen and we have no control over that. But it's still a pet peeve! (Also, whoever replaced "locker" with "fluffy, fluffy bunny filled with medicine and goo", that was awesome. ) -
Ohio State Fair accident
Edgar Allan Pooh replied to Skramp's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This whole disaster is very sad... My sympathies go out to all those who were affected by it. Didn't watch the video because I don't think I could stomach it, but seeing the pictures was enough to get the gist of what happened. It's going to be really hard to find someone to go with me to our local fair now (it starts next week). My sister, who usually loves carnival rides, is now terrified of going on anything at all. Hopefully they will soon ascertain what happened, and prevent accidents like this in the future. I don't know enough about ride mechanics to offer any sort of opinion on what happened, but wow. You don't expect something like this to occur, even at a carnival. -
Theme Park Bucket list
Edgar Allan Pooh replied to witting's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cedar Point for sure, as well as either of the Busch Gardens and Six Flags Great Adventure. As I live in the western US, I haven't been to many parks on the East Coast. And when (if?) it opens, Skyplex in Orlando. I'd also love to revisit Disney World. And while I'm at it, since I've never been to any of the Orlando parks other than Disney World, I'd also love to visit those.
