Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I went to SF Over Texas last weekend, the weather channel had a range of 95%-100% chance of rain all day, and it didn't even rain till 8:00 that evening. It was nice though because there wasn't many people. -
It would be nice if GCI came and did that. Has Six Flags ever had GCI fully revamp a coaster? If so how long ago was it? In reality I don't think it would happen anytime soon. It sure would be nice though. Ewww... I'm not a fan of this idea personally. GCI had a tendency to remove many of the best parts (air time) of coasters, especially any noteworthy drops. They have removed a great amount of the airtime on Yankee Cannonball and the small (but wonderful!) kick going over the first drop of Legend is now gone. And we don't need to go in to the Coney/Luna park debacle. Ugh. I mean, those coasters are smoother now, but there is a way to make a woodie smooth with out removing the best bits; you don't have to do both at the same time. Also, those GCI lap bars really PIN you in your seat. I love Mystic Timbers and their new coasters, great and fun rides, but I'm not a fan of of what they do to older rides. People complain about PTC trains due to the "old design," but that simple 4 running wheel design is what gives many of our favorite woodies their KICK. The lap bars can be a pain, but no trains are perfect. Buzz bars for all! And lose those pesky headrests. All they need to do is re-track it and leave the layout alone. Or they could just use a wrecking ball to do its magic.

You can try your entire life, but it's pointless. You will never get there. Savage. Make sure to ride it Saturday and Sunday to get 2 credits. It's a different experience riding on a Saturday then Sunday! Right? -

Metal detectors at park entrances and metal detectors at ride entrances are both there for entirely different and unrelated purposes and have absolutely nothing to do with each other. I have never even seen or heard about metal detectors at queue lines. What are the for? -

CP is already trying to keep their guests safe. They have security. Metal detectors don't increase security; they just increase its visibility. This is a CYA move, plain and simple. They're avoiding lawsuits, not incidents. A million signs, a big ol' fence, a warning from the ride ops that loose articles should be left with a non-rider, a dropped phone, and one stupid decision later, the park comes under fire for being unsafe. People will complain, whine, and grovel to every lawyer in the world if they get so much as a nightmare about getting a paper cut at an amusement park. Yes. THIS is why they're getting metal detectors. Because people are so stupid they can't tell what is actually making them safer. Because every time our freedom is eroded in the name of security, people just say, "well, you know, that's how the world is" and the terrorists score another victory. This is exactly right -
Same. I first rode it in '79 or '80 (when it was new - ugh I feel old.) It absolutely blew my 9 year old self away and it still does today. It still rides wonderfully, is super forceful through the inversions and "2nd loop" downward helix. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I only rode it once but it was awesome. I can't wait till I can ride it again.

Yeah, that's probably a really good starting point. For anyone who has ridden both blue hawk and its former iteration, ninja, how big of a difference do the new trains make for the ride? Is it night and day, or just marginally better? Ninja to Blue Hawk is like Night and Day. I disagree with whoever said that it is a boring ride because it isn't. It is a custom looper with 5 inversions over the water. It still has it's shuffles, but with the new vest restraints, the shuffles don't bruise the sides of your head. You can also see better without the OTSR's. It still isn't a great ride, but it is SO much better than it was and it is actually rideable and re-rideable again. I agree. I never rode Ninja but I rode Blue Hawk. I enjoyed it and it was pretty smooth for being a Vekoma. -
When I went in July, the two days I was there Superman was the only roller coaster that had assigned seating. It was past 10:00 (that was park closing) and we got on Goliath and we stayed in the same spot for three rides in the back row (awesome airtime). It was so pretty seeing the Atlanta skyline in the distance of Goliaths lift hill.
