Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
eugjackson replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No. Mean Streak Construction b/c it's on the park border doesn't effect other attractions, It's not like building something on the main causeway. I could see it being done before the season ends and they just don't open it till 2018. The fact CF has RMC working on Hurler, which is a much smaller coaster already and they have opened for the year, makes me think CF may want both done by end of season 2017 or late fall right after closing. But, not open either until 2018 and that CF might have another project for RMC next off season....CA Wonderland? -

My comment wasn't necessarily directed at you, or anyone in particular. It was just something that seemed to continue to come up as we get closer to opening day. It will be interesting to see what they do throughout the season. I'm guessing coasterbill is right and they'll just leave the train gates down and leave it at that, at least for a while. And I appreciate that! I was genuinely curious to hear some other thoughts and the discussion is a nice departure from boats and complaining about not being able to post pictures. New Mean Streak Photos are sick...More out every day. -
Yes, b/c you clearly know nothing avout the park, thus b/c you're ignorant, but arrogant per usual. Stating a known fact that Giant Drop is a very low ridership ride is trolling. The fact is VR was used at MM to up ridership on Revolution, a low ridership ride. VR has also been used that way at other parks. Go pound sand.
-
What are you people complaining about. Nobody hardy rides Giant Drop. It's a walk on most of the time or max 10 minute wait. They are putting VR on it b/c it;s not used, just like they put it on Demon another low ridership attraction. VR is best used as they are doing it, to try to revitalize the ridership of low use rides.

New leaks of Mean Streak are amazing....can we skip 2017 and go to 2018 now. -
Raptors are also 1/2 capacity as T-Rex--Not a good idea for a major new coaster at a major SoCal amusement park--especially during Knott's Scary Farm. Raptors were designed for smaller parks. I see MiA getting a B&M Giga before KBF gets an RMC Raptor. The Boomerang leaving has a capacity of 760/hr...clearly capacity is not a priority. Removing a 30-year old, low-capacity shuttle coaster for (potentially) a B&M with a theoretical capacity of 1500 riders per hour. Doubling Capacity. Clown boy..There is a reason KB has not gotten anything for years and years and years and CP. KI, Carrowinds has... Now let's see how long it takes you to figure out why before you have to be told

Yeah and eveyone thinks Intamin Pre Fabs are perfect too. Until Colossos (Heide Park) Closes down for an entire year because now it feels like a jackhammer on your spine. NTAG is only 6 years old. People thought Arrows were smooth when they opened. We have NO IDEA how RMC's age. They could end up as the worst rides on the planet (Highly unlikely but still possible) Desperate
-
It could be RMC Raptor. and not T Rex. Raptor is the same "monorail" system as T Rex concept at lower price point. Raptor is a smaller coaster. Also, at IAAPA interviews with RMC they hinted at Raptor being somewhere and that it would be built before a TRex. Raptor is TRex on smaller scale so makes sense to test out and sell a Raptor before building the more expensive Trex.

Besides the inexpensive launch coasters already mentioned another possibility that comes to mind is the Skyline Skywarp. Supposedly SFGAm nixed a super loop addition, this is in the same genre. The base model is just 2M, they also have a launch model with unknown price tag. The ride is 62 feet tall with a track length of 360 feet and fits on a site just 30 feet wide and 120 feet long. That could fit in the same spot as V2.
-
NEVER! It's still a little surprising to me that SFGAm has the only new-build B&M in the SF chain over the past 11 seasons. I was surprised as well that the wing riders didn't multiply like the Joker clones have, of course B&M's are a little more expensive but I thought on would have popped up at either Magic Mountain or Great adventure. X Flight costs twice a much as a 4D spin, that's why there aren't more. SF ride budget is highly limited by their cap exp formula.
-
For sure. Goliath all on its own makes up for iron wolf and ragin cajun. I've not ridden a 4D free spin yet, so however good joker ends up being will be pure gravy. And if the loss of V2 leads to something better in '18 or '19, then by all means ship it off to SFA, I just hope that it's replacement features a launch of some sort because I have a special fetish for launched coasters and the loss of V2 would leave my home park without any. Inexpensive launch coasters as a replacement ie....Premier Rides Sky Rocket II(Superman at SFDK), Mack Xtreme Spin(new at IAAPA 2-16), S&S Triple Launch El Loco, etc...
-
SFA people are thinking "are we really getting another relocate over a new coaster. " I think the V2 relocate is really possible. SFA needs a new coaster and I don't think they are getting a 4D, SF's favorite new clone. Predicting in 2018 4D's for Stl, Mexico and OG. SF appears to be in the mode of you get a justice league you get a matching 4D and vice versa. So, justice leagues in 2018 for FT and NE

http://www.bizjournals.com/sanantonio/news/2017/03/14/unprecedented-additions-planned-for-six-flags-sa.html “What we have planned for this year and the next few years is unprecedented for the park,” Siebert told me during an exclusive interview. “The past 25 years have been great, but there is no doubt that we are absolutely going to wow our guests with what we have planned for the future.” “In 2018, 2019, 2020 and beyond, with the rides and attractions ... you will see a pattern that we are introducing more world’s firsts and America’s firsts. You will see more technology being debuted at Fiesta Texas,” Siebert said. Let the speculation begin. What new concept rides are out that haven't been installed anywhere in the world or even in the US?

Those days seem to be long gone for Six Flags in general at this point. Hope it changes but no park has added anything like that in a really long time. Unless I'm forgetting something the last hypercoaster added was Goliath at SFOG. That was 2006 and cost 20 million. Not sure what Mako cost but it's also a 200ft. hyper and nothing like that has gone in. I always laugh when people make these comments. The free spending days where SF would build big coasters and multiple "pricey" coasters in a yr, is long gone. The 2000's are a fond memory, when they would add Tatsu, El Toro, Goliath(OG), Goliath(LR) all in the same year. That's what got them into bankruptcy, going overboard. They have gone overboard in the opposite direction however. The only concern appears to be EBIDTA and the massive bonuses they have linked to the EBIDTA targets. The conference call made it crystal clear the current low end structure is being doubles down on and capital expenditures as % of revenue will likely be reduced. It' already impossible to build big coasters with a 75M ride expenditure and give all parks something new. The only saving grace may be that several companies are clearly focusing on developing low cost coasters like S&S, Skyline, Mack, etc..
