  1. I disagree that the places should have been shut down, but I also would fully support anyone's decision not to attend under the circumstances. I also would hope that the park would accommodate staff who didn't feel comfortable being there. I wasn't trying to say that any other view, or yours in particular is wrong, just offering some possible answers to the question you posed. I think had there been a serious or concrete threat, authorities would have shut the threatened areas down.
  2. I think it can be hard to say why people react whichever way they do in these situations. But here are a couple of ideas. Some people probably didnt even realize there was a (nonspecific) threat and so didn't act any differently than normal. Some people may have felt that they were adequately protected from any threat due to the police and security presence. Some people may have felt the urge to go home or to stay away, but felt social pressure (whether real or imagined) to ignore that urge due to the people around them happily going about there business. Some people may not have felt there was any credible threat. Some people may have felt that to change their day to day life due to some nebulous threat would be giving into intimidation, this giving power to those making threat. Ignoring the threat could have been an act of defiance. Still others may have been more afraid of being in other public places during such a threat, like the streets or the subway. Really it could have been any number of reasons, or combination of reasons. Personally I wouldn't (and didn't) change my routine without a more concrete threat or more specific warning from authorities (for a combination of some reasons listed above). Granted I wasn't in the park yesterday, but had I been, I would have carried on as normal.
  3. Sledge Hammer has been up and running for a while, though I'm sure with some downtime. Maybe the plinko thing got more expensive because of the minimum wage increase? Seems a weird thing to increase for that reason, but maybe allot of people play? I know I'd never do it just because of Flight Deck.
  4. Great report. I'm glad it turned into a great night after starting off a bit rough. That ride on Kingda Ka sounds like it was really great!
  5. Yeah, it is not a name most people know. I also had never heard of it before this thread, and I've been into various mythologies since I was kid.
  6. Huge improvement with the color change! I agree with a previous poster, it just didn't feel like TPR when it was all white. Everything seems perfectly functional so far, and faster than the desktop version (while on mobile). Excellent work!
  7. I wouldn't really care. I'd still think it's a bad name, but I'd get over it about the time I hit the bottom of the lift hill for the first time.
  8. I just think it sounds terrible, that's all. Leviathan and Behemoth both sound cool and imposing. Ziz... doesn't.
  9. I doubt it they did - it's a TERRIBLE name.
  10. He's used google maps to measure tunnel width in the past, so I think this was just another way to approach it and help visualize it for those who have trouble visualizing what those distances actually mean.
  11. When are you going? That will have a big impact. If you're going before June 28th, the park shouldn't be too bad on weekdays, but weekends can still get quite busy. If you go on a weekday, I'd hold off on FL+ until you see if you need it. On a weekend, it's pretty much always gonna save you a noticeable amount of time. If the park is very busy when you go, start at the back with Behemoth and Backlot and such even with FL+. On very, very busy days, even the FL lines can reach 30 minutes for certain rides, such as Leviathan. As such knock out the back while the park fills up and people work their way from the front to the back. If you want to go straight to the back, keep left after you enter the park, passing by the sky coaster, the SLC (seriously, pass it by) and the abomination known as Time Warp. When you see a Giant Discovery called Psyclone, you're in Action Zone, and you can hit up a couple of great flats, and two solid coasters, Behemoth and Backlot. If you go after the 28th, by which time both highschools and elementary schools will be out, even weekdays could start to get respectably busy. I'd still say hold off on FL+ until you see how busy it is. As before, FL+ is almost always gonna be worth it for a one day trip on the weekend. Food is usually a headache at this park, sometimes with lines that can rival those of rides. But, the best food can be found at Backlot Cafe, with Tex-Mex, Indian, Mediterranean, and Itialian styled offerings. The butter chicken is tasty, as is the chicken souvlaki plate. Spaghetti and three giant meatballs are also pretty decent. I advise against getting much of their parmesan cheese on top - it's really cheap and really salty. If you crave a burger, get the Award Winning Burger at Muskoka Burger and Beer with some kettle chips. It's pretty good for an amusement park burger. And if you're not from Canada, get a Beaver Tail instead of funnel cake, I don't think you can get them in the US. Most people love them, and there's a number of fun flavours to try.
  12. I don't think anyone is seriously suggesting that. Pretty much 95% of people agree that it will be a dive machine. There has been speculation about it being a 300 ft dive, but I don't prescribe to that particular theory.
  13. Great report! It's sad to say, but as much as I love the park, food is almost always a huge headache. Lines for food can be really long, and the staff is generally completely unmotivated. The quality of the food is much better in certain areas though. Muskoka Burger and Beer makes a rather decent burger, Backlot Cafe makes decent Indian, Greek and Texmex. And of course, Beaver Tails are amazing, as you discovered. I too look forward to more shows. Cirque Canadien was good last year. Some great acrobatics and performances, with some amusing antics. Hopefully they're good this year too.
  14. Every single time I've gone to a Pizzaiolo in Toronto, it's just a different brand of mediocre than Pizza Pizza. IME.
  15. I don't know the answer to most of your questions, bit I'll answer what I can. The Bat runs with an Arrow train rather than a Vekoma train. I've never found it to be very rough, but I'm not a huge fan of boomerangs anyway. The Pizza Pizza on International St altends to have huge lines, but the pizza is quite decent because it's always fresh - they can't seem to prepare it fast enough to cope with the lines. The other Pizza Pizza locations in the park aren't generally as busy, but I've never had pizza from any of them that was bad. I've never been wowed, but that's my general feeling towards Pizza Pizza anyway.
  16. Glad you had fun at the park! The burger place near the rapids is Muskoka Craft Burger and Beer. I tried it on Friday, and I was really impressed too. The pickle spear and half a sausage are a nice touch, not to mention the chips. I think it's my new go to place for food in the park.
  17. Cool! Hotel looks nice enough. It's no Cedar Point resort, but it is going to be great nonetheless. Lumberjack doesn't look 100% done. I'm thinking it won't be ready for Friday, sadly. Wouldn't mind being wrong though.
  18. About 45-50 meters sounds about right to me. I was never convinced it would be 200 ft+, even though that would be great. 150 ft is plenty though, really. We don't have to have another super tall coaster. The dangling vertical drop and the tunnel are enough for this drop to stand out as something special at the park. Thanks for the back of the envelope calculations!
  19. Only thing is that we don't where that track is destined to go. Worth keeping an eye on, but we don't who's it is yet.
  20. I dunno. I think maybe people are seeing what they want to see.
  21. I was wondering the same in regards to Vortex. With the new flats right next door themed to Canadiana, I could definitely see it.
  22. So CedarFair1 has been doing more coverage of the construction on his instagram (canadaswonderlandfan). In his more recent coverage he has noticed that they're dogging and pouring concrete right in the middle of Vortex's helix. Seems possible that's where the tunnel entrance/exit could be, which is neat. Of course, I don't know anything about landscaping or concrete, so it might not mean that at all, but it sure sounds cool.
  23. I'm good with a big drop, but I don't need a really big drop. That being said, I think a decent sized drop of at least 150 ft or so would be best because it needs to not be completely piddly compared to the other big coasters in the park. Hanging over a drop for a few seconds is cool, but if the drop is only half as high as Behemoth's, I'm afraid it might lose something. I'm definitely more interested in the layout as a whole and how many inversions we get. I agree with nicman that a low to the ground coaster with a snappier than usual layout for dives would be very cool, but I'm not expecting it.
  24. You sure you don't need an excuse to head back to La Ronde? I mean, if you're already in the country... Yeah, considering the number of mediocre or straight up bad coasters at CW, any B&M is incredibly welcome. And the more I think about it, the more I'm into the idea of a dive coaster; I think it's a really good fit for the park as it exists now.
