Skyplex Orlando Discussion Thread
Six Flags Haiti replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Still a little concerned it is has been 2, 3 years and they are still looking for investors. -
Do we have a CM that can confirm 1000/hr? The boats hold 16 so that would mean a dispatch of like 58 seconds, seems lengthy for a ride with no restraints, even with the "turntable". I haven't been able to find an uncut video of the loading process. I would have guessed the ride would be able to do 100-120 dispatches an hour at 16 guests, so like 1,600-1,900.

How so? Curious. This information is available on their earning releases on their investor website. it is actually listed as a risk for investors. Those two parks are "partner parks" and have a contract that stipulates they invest 6% of revenue into capital, over a set period. It does not say what the set period is. http://investors.sixflags.com/financial-information/annual-reports

Wait Time Tracking
Six Flags Haiti replied to fuerstjh's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
First off, this is amazing and should be a great tool for the coaster community, especially a whore like myself who will try and fly in and out of a city on the same day to get stuff done. Just to try and push the envelope, are you able to get a lens on date, or even month? A Tuesday at the start of the season in May will be way different from say, July 5th. As an analyst in real life I would love to be able to slice the data that way. -
^The ops dispatched a train and one of the guests had a walking boot on. The operator saw it, signaled to stop the ride, but they didn't e-stop until the train got to about 185 feet on the lift. The ended up "evacing" the train that stopped half a foot from the proper stop in the station, left the guests on the brake run out there for about 25 minutes. They locked out and went up to take off the boot, and then sent the train on the way. All three trains were given bottled water and 1 time quick queue. I was next in line for the front row, so I couldn't get any good shots of the poor supervisor who had to walk up about 18 stories because of the slow e-stop. I did get a good shot of the army of leadership that appeared. There have been plenty of pics and opinions so the only $0.02 I will add is I love the widescreen HD monitor they have on the station. It shows which seats are clear (big boys and girls), as well as their hourly performance. For a quick reference, at the time of the incident described above it was about 23 after the hour, and they had only dispatched 12 trains. That would put them on pace for 28-30 for an hour. There was a decent line, 20-30 minutes and they had all 3 trains on.

Thanks for all of your help. Just realized I left dates of my trip out. I went in mid May, and had modest to no crowds everywhere. With a 2.5 year old Eftling took 2 days, and honestly anything less might have felt rushed. We only had 1 day at Europa which in no way was enough time but that's the hand we got dealt with our travel arrangements. Was spited by the Booster at Toverland, and obviously Taron wasn't ready, otherwise a great trip.

Most publicly traded companies have a 10-15 year capital plan, with a budgeted cadence for how the money will come out. Some times these cadences are more frequent, and patterns can appear. A good example of this is SEA. Check out page 103 on this file: http://s1.q4cdn.com/392447382/files/doc_presentations/2015/2015-11-SEAS_Investor_Day_FINAL-reduced.pdf -
http://www.courier-journal.com/story/news/local/2015/05/22/kentucky-kingdom-approved-million-tax-recovery-incentives-kentucky-tourism-development-finance-authority/27784821/ That is an interesting incentive to manage around. $3.75m over 10 years is decent for a park of this size. It changes the hurdle rate around a bit, but I would still guess that the risk is fairly low with initial demand relatively low from out of state guests, and most visitation will be incremental (IE, they don't go with out this offer). Curious if they ever release if they hit this number.

It does seem a little early for a contingency offer. With a new marquee attraction you would bank on demand being sufficient to not have to discount. That being said, with it being fenced to out of state residents only I have to imagine the risk is pretty minimal. What % of their guests are coming from out of state? 10%-15%? Maybe? Second day free offers provide great perceived value as a guest but the cost to the park is basically zero. The park was going to operate anyways and any money spent (parking) is basically all contribution margin. The cost of soda is insanely low, and would imagine the hurdle rate would be pretty low to cover this freebie.

First Visit to Disney World!
Six Flags Haiti replied to coasternate's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
F&B wise I am always partial to a PB&J milkshake that can be found at 50's Prime Time (or the bar right next to it). There are plenty of treats throughout the parks and if you enjoy food and have the budget would try and schedule 1 table service a day. Then again if you are coming of a cruise you may be ready to go on a juice cleanse. Star Tours 2 has lost some of its re-ride ability with the scene from Force Awakens being shown on every sim. Not sure if that will still be going on later. Give yourself an extra 15-30 to get into the park with the new security measures. I met a friend during Easter week and it took them 35 min to get thru bag check. If you want a cheap (read free) souvenir grab a pack of Sorcery of Magic Kingdom cards. This is an interactive card game, and can be a real time waster, so I wouldn't recommend playing on first visit. Again the cards are free so...grab a pack. -
Anecdotally makes for a great story. Their share price jumped like 20% after they announced the abstinence vow for Shamu, and last I saw it was trading around its 52 week high. Their earnings call will be in about a month and should give a better picture if what you saw was a one off or if the public is starting to "forgive". Keep in mind that 2015 was maybe one of the worst years in the company's history, and all of the parks will benefit from an early Easter when comparing 16 to 15. Guess what I am saying is the bar is set low, but eventually they will have to jump it, right?
-
Guess it depends on how serious the issue is. I haven't had the opportunity to visit the park so I do not know if it just causes mild discomfort or if it is brutal conditions. I am sure the park GM could find some room in his capital budget if they are constantly dealing with heat exhaustion issues for their employees and guests. Heck with how employee friendly California worker laws are I am surprised the state hasn't forced them to do it anyways, and levy fines on top.

I would imagine that their analysis has shown the source of residency for visitation is too local to warrant an investment in a resort. I would bet the bulk of their attendance is from those fairly large markets that are 60-90 minutes away (Indy, Columbus, Dayton, and Cincy which is much closer), and are a segment looking to make a day trip versus a regional vacation. -
Efteling Discussion Thread

Has anyone dined at Raveleijn? Is there any major differences between lunch and dinner? The website doesn't seem to indicate any differences other then reservations are recommended for dinner. -
Thanks for your responses! I am worried about only having a day at Europa but hoping that staying onsite will allow me enough time to have a decent day. Unfortunately with the schedule I can't squeeze in anymore time. My wife is a Disney-file so I figured this would be the park she could relate to most (outside of our days at DLP). I could easily see us spending two hours in the fairy tale walk through. I was trying to squeeze in Holiday because of G-Force. It seems to be a consensus favorite and would be a shame for me to drive by it and not try to stop. I think I am going to attempt to get as much time in as possible. Anything I do not get done is an excuse to go back.

Alvey(s), Visiting Europe for the first time in a month. Will be traveling with wife and 2.5 year old. Over the two weeks we will be flying into Paris and roughly going: Paris --> Den Bosch --> Cologne --> Rust --> Paris. Staying on property at Eftling, Phantasialand, and Europa Park. I think I have a decent mix of culture and coasters, but had a question or two: Would you spend two days at Eftling or a day at Eftling and a day at Bobbejanland? How much time is needed to do Holiday Park? It is along the path from Phantasialand to Europa Park, but there is culture we are doing along the way, and at best we would have 3 hours to visit. Is one day enough to get Europa "done"? Thanks for your answers.
