We already have a massive water park and had an expansion two years ago to the waterpark As did Carowinds... -

I agree, I think Minebuster should (and will soon) go the way of Thunder Road at Carowinds -- for the sake of an improved/expanded water park. The new Cedar Fair is clearly not afraid to remove coasters to improve the overall park experience. Much like Carowinds, I can also see a dedicated water park entrance near the wave pool with a parking lot built in the giant pot of land between the water park and the freeway. -

What makes this early season teaser different then KI's early season teaser? The difference would be that this would be 3 coaster projects in one year, something we haven't seen of late from CF. KI has begun tree clearing and has survey markers across a very large area. KI's project is a coaster and from all appearances a large one. Hurler, in house or not, is still a coaster project. As I said before I hope it is a coaster (and I agree that early teasing is usually a sign of a bigger investment) but it would be a deviation from the capital investment strategy we've seen the past few years. 2013 saw Gatekeeper, a $30 million investment, Gold Striker, probably a $10 million investment, and Coast Rider at Knott's, and not to mention GCI refurbishments on Shivering Timber, Timber Wolf, and Hurler at Carowinds. There's no reason why 2017 can't have three coaster projects if they average around $15-20 million each. Cedar Fair generally spends well over $100 in expenditures per year throughout their parks, and there's nothing to say that on certain years the bulk of that will be spent on water parks, or coasters, or family attractions, or thrill rides, or in any combination. Maybe 2017 will focus on coasters. Hell, if they wanted to, Cedar Fair can open 11 new coasters in 2017 (1 for each park), each about $10 million, and still be at budget. -

This poll is from 2005, two years before maverick opened. Oops! Thanks for that. I didn't even catch the date of the post. I jus figured it was posted recently and didn't put it together that it may be an old post that was bumped up. -

I'm sorry, but it's sacrilege not to have Macerick on this this. I refuse to participate and put Maverick under other But seriously -

My guess is the wooden fence going around is to partition 'park' from 'non-park' areas, and what is remaining between the fence and the road will probably be employee [stripper] parking. -

I wish that was possible guys. I go to dental school, and it's pretty much been 7am to 5pm mon through fri for three years. Only time we get off is a week for Thanksgiving and two weeks for Christmas, which I've always used to go back home and spend the time with family. And since our school days are so long, we use weekends to study for school/boards/licensure exams/etc. or volunteer. Sadly, even though I've lived in Florida for the last few years, I haven't LIVED Florida. I've only been to Universal Studios for Halloween Horror Nights and Epcot during Food & Wine and both were amazing experiences. The school is giving us two weeks only in May to move from our Bradenton, FL campus to our Erie, PA campus for our fourth year residency (and time to get situated/take care of housing/etc.) That's the only opportunity I'll have to visit these Florida parks... at least until I'm a dentist and can afford to make a trip down there again in the future

So, I attend school in the Tampa/Sarasota, FL area and I'll be moving up to Erie, PA to finish my last year of school. I plan on starting my drive up around May 15/16. I have two routes planned and need help picking the best one, of any alternate suggestions. A little back ground, I'm from the Midwest and Cedar Point is my hometown park. I've been there at least once a year from the age of six to 22. I haven't been to the park though for the last five years, since moving to Florida. So as far as parks for this route goes, Cedar Point isn't the most essential. Route one (8 parks, 25 hour drive) Busch Gardens Tampa --> Sea World Orlando --> Islands of Adventure --> Carowinds --> Dollywood --> Kings Island --> Cedar Point --> Waldameer Route two (9 parks, 25 hour drive) Busch Gardens Tampa --> Sea World Orlando --> Islands of Adventure --> Carowinds --> Busch Gardens Williamsburg --> Kings Dominion --> Hershey Park --> Kennywood --> Waldameer I'm leaning towards route two since there are more parks to choose from, and route one has Cedar Point, a park I've been to many times and can go to any time I want once I'm back in the midwest. But route one also has Kings Island, which I really want to experience. And out of all these parks, I have only been to Cedar Point. Lastly, if you had to pick the 5 best parks from the best route (or alternate route), which would they be? I might be limited on funds and time and won't be able to do all 8/9 parks. Your input and advise is much appreciated!!

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
cedarpointguru replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Your evidence is logic. Having long-term plans is a better logical way to run a business, rather than purchasing coasters on a whim, year to year. Let me ask you this. B&M has been known in the past to turn down some parks because they are simply too busy with other projects in those particular years. Why would Cedar Point run that risk, when they could just purchase a 3+ ride package deal years in advance, guaranteeing that "X" ride is installed in "Y" year? Not to mention I'm sure there's some sort of discount in doing so. Makes more business sense to me, I dunno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Or, just maybe, hypothetically speaking just for this conversation's purposes go, can't a company place an order from said manufacturer in 2010 for a coaster that will open in 2015, and then place another order from the same manufacturer in 2012 for 2017. Two separate, independent purchases. No package deal. Again, just two separate purchases that came about after the park agreed on plans. Stop pulling sh*t out of your a** and calling it truth. Unless you have proof of these package deals then don't imply they exist. -

Let's say that's true, and Cedar Point works independently of other parks in the chain. Had they had a 5 ride package deal with Intamin (2000 to 2010, from MF to STR) then who's to say they don't have the same with B&M right know. The argument you were trying to make initially was that Cedar Point is probably done with B&M (after the 3 ride deal including Rougarou), but me thinks they may have 1 or 2 more (most likely 1 considering that the only offering left B&M has that Cedar Point might want is a flyer). Who knows but Cedar Point. -

Right, but why is it that you can't have multiple contracts with multiple coaster manufacturers at the same time? It seems like Cedar Fair works with Intamin, B&M, CGI, Mac, Zemperla, and Gerstlauer simultaneously, and while they were adding the four Intamins at Cedar Point, as well as Xcelerator, and Steel Venom from Intamin, they were adding B&M's such as Talon, Hydra, Patriot, etc. and Gerstlauer's Spinning Dragons and Timberland Twister (back when they operated Camp Snoopy at MoA), and so on. I'd love to see Cedar Fair work with other manufactures. I want to see them work with Intamin on more tried and true designs, and I'd love to see what RMC can do to some of Cedar Fair's poor wooden coasters. But I hope they continue to work with B&M, whether that's more conversions of their remaining floorless coasters, to a hyper at MIA, and an Invert at Valleyfair, to a Flyer at Cedar Point, to a giga at Kings Island and Knott's Berry Farm (if they ever manage the room for it). I'm not saying these have to be added simultaneously with no other manufacturer getting a chance, but I hope these make their way in the next decade or so. As far as years for planning goes, I believe that Cedar Fair decided on the wing coaster at 2011's IAAPA, and 2013 Gatekeeper opened, so only two years. Don't forget though, when Cedar Point clears land or closes a ride/coaster, it tends to mean that they will use that site for the next major coaster in 2 seasons time. i.e. WWL --> Maverick, Disaster Transport --> GateKeeper, GoodTime Theater --> Valravn. I think it's a safe bet that Challenge Park will be used for a Soak City expansion for 2017, but it's also a safe bet to say that STR site will be used for 2018/2019. And I'm sure you're right on that Cedar Point plans 5 years ahead, but that doesn't mean that they only plan on one coaster every 5 years. Cedar Point normally adds coasters every two or three years. It's been that way since the 70's but there are periods where they go 5 or so years without adding one. -

Sorry, I thought you said we won't see another coaster for at least five years, not few. Regarding any deal with B&M, I don't think it'll stop if it's working. Those 8 coasters (9 if you count Rougarou) are at 4 of the chain's 11 parks. If the formula is working why stop? The first that comes to mind is a much needed invert for Valleyfair, or hyper for Michigan's Adventure (we all know that's never going to happen lol). Again, I don't see B&M and Cedar Fair stopping their relationship anytime soon, especially when you consider that their relationship dates back to 1994 with Raptor, when we saw Mantis, Talon, Patriot, Hydra, Silver Bullet, and probably a few others long before these newer 8 came along. -

Um, Cedar Point's 150th anniversary is soon approaching for 2020 and I can guarantee you that Cedar Point will come out swinging with a MAJOR coaster. So no, you're wrong, we will see a coaster in the next five years. And I doubt that Cedar POINT made a deal with B&M, I think it's Cedar FAIR that made a deal with B&M, and that includes Banshee, Behemoth, Leviathan, Intimidator, Diamondback, Fury 325, GateKeeper, Valravn, and possibly more to come throughout the chain. -

Wow, people, it's clearly a joke! That's Maverick's old restraint painted yellow. Can't you notice the red underneath the yellow? Can't you also notice that only one seat (out of the four) that has it? And that you can't possibly have that and the T-Bar? Cedar Point is pulling a fast one!
