Holiday World (HW) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^^Well, I didn't grow up in the "B&M Generation!" I grew up in the 80's. an era of rough Arrow loopers and non-banked mine trains! I was very grateful when B&M came along in the 90's, and revolutionized the coaster-riding experience, personally! You are correct about the issue with The Legend being the laterals. I don't appreciate them, but I don't think that makes me wrong. It's not my taste, and I don't feel like a coaster has to be rough, to be a real coaster experience. I think we're past that these days. Nothing wrong with people who prefer that type of experience, but I suspect that, GP included, far fewer want roughness on their coaster vs. a smooth, yet exciting ride with some airtime. For me, every Wild Mouse coaster is in my bottom 20 coasters, simply because I can't stand that type of experience, and the little bit of airtime that they may provide in the final part of the ride in no way mitigates the primary experience of violent laterals. Now, spinning Wild Mouse coasters are a horse of a different color! -
I think what's sort of ironic about this comment is that this is what people used to say about Psyclone. And then when they re-built Terminator in Psyclone's spot everyone was like "Oh, thank god!!!!!" and now it sounds like that ride has just turned into Psyclone II? That land over there must be ancient Indian burial ground... That's also why Deju Vu was removed...

I'm definitely on board with The Legend getting the RMC treatment! Of course, there are very few coasters I wouldn't be on board with that for! -

My vote still goes to Fun Spot for that. If it is here, however, that's a very nice addition to the park! -
Tallest coaster you've been on.
DILinator replied to andre8's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Top 3 Steel: 1) Kingda Ka 2) TTD 3) Fury Honorable Mention to SoB for being the tallest wooden coaster I've been on! RIPieces... -
Hard to say. Lightning will close rides for awhile, of course, but if it's scattered, it will be hit or miss. They are pretty good about getting rides going again ASAP after a storm in my experience. Rain forecasts can scare away people sometimes, so if it did not rain much or at all, it could work to your benefit. I will say that five days out, a weather forecast can change a lot. You will have a better idea of the forecast on Monday or Tuesday, if you can make a decision that last minute. Currently I am seeing a 40% chance of storms that day. You will just need to make an informed decision. We typically have lucked out with out of town parks with storms in the forecast, just getting one storm the day we were there--it's just pretty common with the heat of summer. Thanks for the feedback! I think we're going to do that: just wait for Monday, and decide then whether we're going to come out now, or postpone the trip. BTW, what are crowds life for Fright Nights at GAm? I know Holloweekends at Cedar Point often get quite unwieldy!

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

I love Magnum too. It's my #5 hyper but my #10 overall. My 3rd favorite @ CP. Surprised the hell out of me, another "I don't understand why people don't like this ride". Only got two laps on it but I love that coaster. I didn't say I don't like it, but I don't get the fanaticism. Especially among enthusiasts who should have a lot more coasters to compare it to. Sure, it can give some great rides, but it also can give some real turkeys, and many times on the same visit. I've been riding it since it came out, and appreciate its place in history. But I prefer all the B&M Hypers I've ridden to it, Skyrush, and of course my #1 Hyper, Phantom's Revenge. I still like the ride, however! It's my #8 Hyper, and #38 coaster overall, however... (I will say, if the "thigh crush" of Skyrush doesn't bother you in the least, I'm not surprised you like Magnum more. For me, personally, if a ride gives a ride, even sometimes, that is at all painful, even if I like it, that will detract from its overall place in my hierarchy of coasters...) -
Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
fixed When did Hershey get Magnum Xl 200? This is the first I'm hearing about this. (The seatbelt trick made me flip flop harder than John Kerry but whatever, don't judge me). NO! Not another one of THOSE people! At least the Skyrush fanatics I can understand... The Magnum fanatics seem to me like the equivalent of somebody who would list Corkscrew at CP as their favorite looping coaster! (Don't be too offended - many of my best friends who are enthusiasts feel the same way - and I give them the same grief! ) Here's what I don't understand about this whole cell phone topic... How are these phones coming out on rides? I rarely leave my phone off the ride, but I've never had any trouble with it coming out, nor will I ever. When it's in my front pocket, and I am in a sitting position, there is no way that phone is going anywhere. I just don't understand where people are putting their phone, that it's in danger of coming out. I think cargo pockets (non-zippered) are potentially at risk (rode with a friend on Fury who lost his phone from there), but is that the main culprit? Yes, if people don't have adequate pockets for their phone, it needs to stay off the ride. But for those who are able to keep it safe and secure on their person, the way Universal Studios handles it is simply throwing out the baby with the bathwater... -
Question for the locals and regular attendees of SFGAm... Given the park's inclement weather policies and practices, is it worth it still to go to the park on a day where there are scattered T-storms forecasted, and a 50% chance of rain? That is what I'm currently looking at for my planned trip out to the path on Wednesday... I really don't want to drive all the way out there, spend that money on gas, parking, and park entry, and end up having a waterlogged day where we're unable to do much. Last time I was at the park, a storm rolled through for about 45 minutes in the afternoon, but other than that it was dry, and we had lower crowds. Just looking for some thoughts/advice... Thanks!

fixed x100 I'm pretty euphoric in my love for HP, but you Skyrush guys are something else! Having said that, I do look forward to getting back there and getting more laps on Skyrush, as I've only ridden it once, in the very front. Maybe it'll rise in my rankings then! -
Good choice, sir! I think you are going to have an amazing time there, and will get far more rides in on all the big coasters than you likely would have even with Flash Pass (and free breakfast and lunch), in addition to getting to connect with a bunch of fellow amusement park enthusiasts! That's a win/win/win! In fact, if you get the park thoroughly done that one day, you may want to experience other parks, or other So-Cal attractions on the next two days instead of SFMM. At least it gives you options! Enjoy!

Oh yeah, HP already DOES have a Hyper! I brain-farted that earlier! So, HP basically IS the complete amusement park right now! An RMCd Wildcat would just be icing on the cake! -
SIVEL TON2, if you're going to be at SFMM the same day as West Coast Bash already, and are a member of this site, I think you're eligible to do the WCB that day. I would imagine that's cheaper than getting a Flash Pass anyway, and you'll get many more rides on all the coasters they do Exclusive Ride Time on! That should definitely make the rest of your day easier! Check out the link at the top of the page if you're interested!

Cedar Point Trip, Need advice
DILinator replied to chrisg060's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
And if you're going to hit Maverick first, go in the entrance near Soak City/Hotel Breakers, as you'll get to Maverick quicker, with less walking! Might even get two rides on it with minimal waits! Just go through the toll booths on the extreme left, and tell the guy you're going to the Soak City lot. Follow Perimeter Rd. all the way around! -
^To each their own I guess. I've been the biggest advocate for MF for 15 years, but Fury knocked it off its pedestal earlier this year by doing everything MF did, and then going beyond that and doing a number of things it didn't! Night rides on Fury can't be shrugged at either. I think the ride ops, and station environment of MF is much better than Fury's, which contributes to the hyped-up crowd (and is a credit to CP's better operations.) Still, we're splitting hairs here when we talk about one of these coasters being better than the other, as they are both amazing coasters, and tremendous crowd pleasers!
-
^Thanks for the feedback! We can barely afford to even make the trip out, so FlashPass is certainly not an option for us... Hopefully, being a Wednesday, we have a little better luck with the crowds. (There's projected to be scattered thunderstorms that day, so maybe that'll scare some people away!)
-
Phenomenal pictures! You must have one heck of a camera! (Or one heck of a phone!) I love that I never have very long lines, or obscene crowds at CP, given when I typically go (weekday, very early in the season), but one thing I DO really miss about Summertime visits, are those mind-blowing night rides in the front row of MF! Have you ridden Fury yet? It's the only thing I've ridden that's been able to top my beloved Millie!

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread
DILinator replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
An RMC version of that layout would indeed be fabulous! I really hope that this does turn out to be next major coaster "addition" to Hersheypark! They would then have just about everything (outside of a Hyper or Giga) that you could want in an Amusement Park! (Along those lines, does anybody know if there are certain height restrictions in place at HP?) -
I really, really liked that ride! As for the 4D, two thoughts: 1) I agree that to me, that seems like an excellent addition for a "2nd tier" SF park, as somebody mentioned. However, for SFGAdv, who hasn't received a major coaster for so long in spite of being arguably the second "biggest" SF park, prestige-wise, it does seem like a disappointing addition. Again, that is how I feel about it. 2) Having said that, I can attest to the fact that when the 4D for Fiesta Texas was announced last year, it received a TON of attention all over my Facebook feed from people that are not at all a part of my coaster enthusiast friends! Clearly, it is a coaster addition that will garner plenty of positive attention from the GP for GAdv, if that is the direction they go. One possible option for GAdv, that would bridge the two thoughts... Maybe this WILL be a custom layout coaster, of a larger size and layout, but still an S&S 4D Free-Spin? That could have the potential to be pretty fun and interesting! (Though personally, I'd still rather see an Intamin Giga, or a launched Wing Coaster - maybe even an Intamin like Furious Baco, instead of a B&M even!)

I haven't ridden any RMCs yet, so it'll be interesting to see if Goliath can de-throne The Voyage this upcoming week as my #1 woodie. You are right though about how AMAZING this great coaster is! Goliath definitely has its work cut out for it! I'm glad to know there are others out there who feel the same way! So many people rave about this coaster, but every single ride gives me the same experience you just described. I even tried it in the front, and still way too many jarring laterals... To each their own, eh?
