Valleyfair (VF) Discussion Thread

Agreed. Waterpark could certainly use more growth, but this year's additions are definitely a big sign that Cedar Fair understands the potential and are going about it in a smart and economical way. Whatever comes next can only add to that. -

Valleyfair's waterpark really just needs to be able to hold its own against local competition and the Wisconsin Dells at this point (and be interesting enough to make that long drive to the Dells seem less worthwhile). With the awesome new slide tower, it's definitely a huge step up. Whatever comes next for the waterpark will be great, but I don't understand why people are getting upset about the speculation along the way...just about every park thread is loaded with speculation during the off-season, and while a lot of the other parks are already open, Valleyfair is still technically in its off-season until Friday...the posts will change gears as the season gets going and we get to ogle the new additions and the changes. But seriously, the park ain't open for us yet. I think that the thread has been amazingly active during this last off-season though. The page count practically doubled. -

KD's waterpark expansion is wonderful and in addition to waterpark that already blew VF's out of the park. Dorney's waterpark again is also already wonderful. Worlds of Fun: same deal CGA: same deal, already a great waterpark by comparison to pre-2015 VF Knotts: really? MIA: Their waterpark is spectacular compared to ours. VF is finally getting into the game it seems though -

Tables are set up under the shaded part of the path. Whoever called seating, you had it in the bag! Looks like a nice place to linger. -

You can tell on the webcam the lights on the Ferris wheel are going even in the daylight. Has anyone else heard about some of the opening weekend troubles at the other parks? I think one of the aspects that Valleyfair exceeds at is good operations right off the bat. Having a preview weekend like this bodes well for the official opening weekend. -

I think it's a great concept and I want to see the ride have a dark ride element--maybe an enclosed lift hill, themed station and queue too. Would love to see Cedar Fair approach Busch or Universal levels of ride story immersion (Disney is just too much to hope for, especially without established intellectual property to go off of). It would really help bring Cedar Point to the next level as dark rides are the only thing they lack...and it would still be a great coaster! But it could be just another scream machine, that's cool too What happens at other parks does have a ripple effect right to Valleyfair. It really can give us an impression of where the company is going and what to hope for next. -

With Valleyfair's limited space and flood challenges, it will be extremely interesting to see what moves are made for the park to grow. Cedar Fair may pour a substantial amount of money into a berm for the whole property, which would allow the park to grow within its current plots and eliminate any possibility of mid-season flooding closing rides. Or they may just accept that limitation and develop in ways I can't imagine right now. But I don't know if our investment will hit Carowinds levels...It sounds like they are comparing us to Knotts as well, with its limited but highly strategic investments. Knotts has even more space issues than we do! -

It's a different kind of experience, and slingshots tend to go over very well. -

Totally forgot about a potential slingshot! Wouldn't be a surprise if we got one rather quickly. -

There are enough open spots throughout the park that they could fill first. The Wild Thing turnaround, back by the Wild Thing station, those grass areas by Corkscrew too...including the old scrambler pad, we need like 5 flats to fill up all the spaces. And I would like to see... Larson scooters (I feel like this will happen in the next few years) star flyer (to avoid the windseeker hassles) Pendulum (I think Zamperla was discussed?) Super loop (eh, why not ) .... That's all I can think of. Someone got better ideas I hope -

They don't even put the amphitheater on the park map, so it's pretty safe to say that it's going to be replaced. A dark ride with a cool themed building would look great there. I don't know if they will do anything with the old Scrambler pad for a while...the park needs a spot for ceremonies and outdoor staging near the front of the park, so it's as good a use as any really. -

Plenty of water parks have two wave pools (Mt Olympus, Noahs Ark, Dorney, Michigan's Adventure), but they also usually have a ton more slides/other attractions as well. Valleyfair's water park is not at the point where a second wave pool is necessary...yet. -

That sounds like a great name for a dark ride too. But if true for the dive coaster, that makes two legendary bird-themed coasters at Cedar Point, the other being Gatekeeper. Maybe they'll aim for a third legendary bird? Kind of like how Canada's Wonderland is expected to get Ziz eventually to round off the Jewish trio of Behemoth, Laviathan and Ziz. If Valleyfair could get a trio of coasters with a linked background mythology or connection, what would they be? Extremely unlikely I know, but fun to ponder. -

I've never had a problem with teacups spinning too much as you generally have control over the spin rate via the disc in the middle of each cup. I recommend, especially if you can pack 4 into the cup and battle over spin direction. -

I would like to see spinning teacups returned to Valleyfair. It's such a basic thing, but I ride them at any park that has them. I understand that the park did have them years ago, but I don't know how long ago that was. -

Luring in lucrative events to host and cater is a smart move. A great chef and great food can be a great draw for getting more people to the park. Imagine corporate events, company family days, weddings even...they have a unique venue that is incomparable in the Twin Cities. I think Valleyfair is playing that well. -

Then Dorney, Worlds of Fun, Michigan's Adventure and Valleyfair are all guilty lol. I definitely want to believe that they are dropping hints there. -

If it's an Arrow (which as I understand it has been bought out by S&S), then that definitely gets us closer to what exactly we are supposed to get! Now actively combing their website to spot anything with a similar track. Hoping it's going to be a launcher! On another look, it's very similar to Corkscrew and Wild Thing's track, which suggests Chance Morgan. GT-X anyone? -

I wonder if they might attempt to theme their dive machine and give it a dark ride-like lift hill with a back-story to go with the name Valravn--wouldn't mind seeing Cedar Fair take a crack at it! I think it's great that they are trying to find some mythological creatures and concepts that haven't been beaten to death in pop culture to incorporate into the parks. They add personality and a great new layer of fun. -

Looks like Power Tower is testing today. And Riptide. And Xtreme Swing. The park is starting to come alive again By 2020, I think that we can definitely expect a new inverted coaster, dark ride, major new flat and a much nicer waterpark! Since Valleyfair floods so frequently, I could see the dark ride being themed to a river monster or something along those lines... -
