  1. ^Would love a detailed summary of the call to be posted. Por favor
  2. New trains on Wild Thing won't happen. I'd like them to because I want to know what (if any) difference there would be in ride experience, and I'm short enough where the change wouldn't affect me, but the ROI just isn't there. Not unless Wild Thing were to be re-profiled and remarketed as a new attraction, but you just don't see steel coasters getting re-profiled.
  3. The VF flat collection is pretty great, I have no complaints there. I do kind of wonder if VF would have done better building the waterpark where Route 76 is now and if they should have kept the log flume at the back... Wouldn't it have been easier to expand the waterpark into the parking lot and expand the parking lot toward the dorms?
  4. ^Agreed. My personal wants and feelings for Valleyfair differ from reality too much at times lol. I'd love to see a coaster addition soon. It doesn't have to be anything innovative or record-breaking, just substantive and showing quality. Or not. Where's our boomerang, darn it?
  5. There are definitely coasters better than it, but SFA's S:ROS easily shreds any of the Morgan hypers. I would swap it with Wild Thing in a heartbeat. But that's another horse beaten to death, so moving on...
  6. Oh God yes. Superman Ride of Steel eats Wild Thing for lunch. It's an airtime beast on every hill. Even the boring straight bits give you a more intense feeling of speed than Wild Thing ever could. Ohhhh... memories.
  7. To be fair, that didn't stop SFDK from putting one in. edit: not saying VF would get one, just stating that similarity to Steel Venom would not be the reason against it
  8. This sums it up. But VF would do very well with a few more compact, full-circuit thrillers.
  9. I don't think that's the case. I think VF is simply more concerned with getting the waterpark up to the scale of the market first. Worlds of Fun already has a large waterpark as they don't have to deal with the same kinds of restrictions that Valleyfair faces. And if VF does get permission to fill in the wetlands and build a parking lot, expand the waterpark, etc., we could very easily get a new coaster back there. Dinos Alive spot is the only other real option and that's tabled until the Dinos contract is up anyway. VF is stuck for now.
  10. It's great to hear that the request with the Army Corps of Engineers is still in process and was not abandoned. And the fact that they've been pursuing this for four years bodes well. Perhaps Valleyfair has been saving up for a massive rework of the back of the park and the waterpark if/when the approval is given? That alone could explain the coaster drought, and it would be worth it in the long run. And of course we're waiting on government bureaucracy at this point, so who knows how long this wait will be. Hopefully they'll reach some sort of approval in 2016 so work can start in winter. Edit: and by work I have no idea what that would mean, maybe just starting by filling in the wetlands.
  11. 1.5 hours from Wisconsin Dells and Mt Olympus, 3 hours from Valleyfair, 3 hours from Bay Beach in Green Bay, and 4 hours from Six Flags Great America....Guess which park gets my season pass money.
  12. Purple track with yellow supports wouldn't float your boat, huh? I don't mind a sports-related coaster. Fury 325 has sports connotations for Charlotte, I'd argue Raging Bull is the same with Chicago, Blue Streak at Cedar Point...and if you consider NASCAR a sport, both Intimidators would count as well, right?
  13. Go with Valkyrie. LOL. It's Viking (for you MN football fans), folklore, foreign, and flying. Very much like Valravn. But then I just picture Bugs Bunny on that fat horse...
  14. Please not Blizzard, I don't want to think about Dairy Queen or bad driving conditions every time I see the coaster. Being a Cedar Fair park, I expect a bird theme. lol!
  15. I always liked SFA when I went, it's such a convenient location in the metro area. The real shame is corporate isn't doing a ton more to bring it up to par and really capitalize on that; but SFA isn't a bad park, especially if you're there for coasters. Its collection blows VF out of the water for sure, clones and all. And the front half of the park is beautiful, the back needs a lot of work. But I'm sure it will get there in increments.
  16. Considering how Dorney's got 2 B&Ms but the park's biggest draw is its waterpark, I agree with this. Cedar Fair probably isn't too pressed about getting additional coasters when waterpark additions are cheaper and draw more guests. Valleyfair's waterpark is also severely undersized. I wouldn't be surprised to see it get a Carowinds-esque expansion (second wave pool, some more slide complexes, large and colorful splash pad) if the Army Corps approves.
  17. This. Valleyfair's growth is going to be appropriate for Valleyfair's market, and what that means is not really clear (but endlessly fun to speculate for me). The first thing Cedar Fair needs to do is ensure they can legally expand the park on their own land. Fact remains they want to do some major work in the back of the park and need Army Corps permission to do so. The paperwork was submitted in 2015 and that process of approval/denial can easily take a year or more. Seems to me the park management is waiting to find out what their options are at this point, and are installing smaller additions until they know more. That's frustrating for us, but it's the right decision. We really don't know what they have in store for VF at this time.
  18. I love how Cedar Point can somehow build 300 foot steel machines on that same sand that cannot hold a pool of water.
  19. This comment made me realize Worlds of Fun does not have a Wild Mouse. When was the last time Worlds of Fun had to close a section of the park for being underwater? I feel like these types of things played a large role in Cedar Fair's development choices in the past. Worlds of Fun is definitely in a more favorable situation for development, while Valleyfair has more costly hurdles to overcome due to its location and restrictions on development. But to answer the question, the Xtreme Swing is Valleyfair's best ride overall in my opinion. Love love love it. Worlds of Fun should get one, they rock. But as a WOF outsider who's never visited, I'd like to see them get a Wild Mouse too (more family coasters are always good), and some sort of a launcher. The other flats coming for you in 2017 will be great additions of course. Throw in a dark ride and that park is really, really well-rounded for its market. Valleyfair definitely has an uphill battle at this point--the waterpark is undersized for its market because it's cornered between a highway and a flood plain (fingers crossed the Army Corps of Engineers approves development!), we could use a full-circuit invert like ten years ago, and the lack of any sort of B&M is sad as an enthusiast. And we could use a good dark ride like everyone else and that should be coming in several years if the rumors are true. But to say it's a bad park overall? I have a great time when I go, and it's easier to enjoy a day at Valleyfair than to enjoy even Six Flags Great America due to the fact that Six Flags is perpetually overcrowded and understaffed, a victim of its own success.
  20. I just can't see Corkscrew going anywhere for a while. I really do love the way it interacts with Planet Snoopy and the midways. It's a perfect first looper. I can definitely see the bathrooms by the turnaround on High Roller being removed to make way for a plaza for a new invert/small B&M on the site of Dinos Alive sometime in 2019/2020 though. Same old song, I know. I suspect we'll see some sort of dark ride before a new coaster at that rate. Anyone heard of any further progress for the Valleyfair waterpark/second gate/parking lot expansion?
  21. Love that second picture with Renegade! Thanks for posting.
  22. Rip down Excalibur for a parking lot and second entrance, build a couple new slide complexes and another wave pool. Boom. Best waterpark in Minnesota. Probably more ROI than a coaster in the long run.
  23. Kind of a sexy brake run at that angle. Weird! Edit: nevermind, it's the third hill. Oops.
  24. What if they now just always had the trims off? If only that were true! I'm betting the brakes won't affect a stunt show like they would a musical performance.
  25. Let's just see what happens. They might just build a new amphitheater.
