  1. Defective fastenings perhaps, maybe exacerbated by the cold dip. It's better that happens now that later with a rider zooming down! I count it as lucky.
  2. Definitely looks like it detached. Uh oh.
  3. That stretch of midway definitely has bottleneck issues. It's as slim as a secondary path, but you have to squeeze through it all the waterpark crowds and all the Renegade/Thunder Canyon/etc. crowds. Not to mention the Mad Mouse and Planet Snoopy crowds that block it...it gets very congested compared to the rest of the park, and people notice.
  4. Good point! I never would have thought to put something like that there. It looks like it will be accessible from the midway....I could see them also putting tables and chairs there to make it more friendly for relaxation and eating. Now where will Subway go in 2016? I doubt they are gone for good.
  5. Anybody got a clue what the white poles on the midway are for? I don't think it's lighting, the midway looks strange...maybe framework for new games??? At a loss.
  6. Probably helps make the tunnel feel darker.
  7. Should Cedar Fair attempt to create iconic centerpieces for its parks like Disney? Great America has its carousel and fountain, the Kings parks have the Eiffel Towers, and Canada's Wonderland has its mountain...there aren't many parks without one. What would Valleyfair's be? Or does it already have one?
  8. I love that idea. Even Wild Thing would look great with an LED package like that. They're so bright that even the dark paint on the lift would look vivid. Get some on Power Tower too, it will stand out like the Washington Monument at night. Throw in a Windseeker and Valleyfair could be its own light show from one edge of the park to the other.
  9. My skin is plenty thick, thanks for caring . There's only a couple handfuls of people that post regularly on these forums, so a handful is still "a lot." And at least part of a coaster could fit in the amphitheater site, travel beyond it over the plaza, and return. I never said an entire coaster would be within the confines of the amphitheater space in that post. The only kinds that could would be a boomerang, a mouse, or a stingray as far as I know. I fully agree with you that it would behoove the park to put the next coaster in Excalibur's spot, it makes the most sense as far as crowd flow and getting people deeper into the park. But they are making surprising moves. If the tollbooths do get moved to allow access to a new part of the lot, I have a feeling it might accompany a revision of the drive leading to the parking lot as well (if the booths are moved up too far, where would cars wait? Not on the highway) and include the new sign. Maybe we're due for a Carowinds treatment after all.
  10. I don't know where you got the "...where a lot of people here have suspected..." part from these forums. A few maybe but not a lot. Now, I have seen a lot of people speculate that a flat ride or two could go there but not a coaster which makes much more sense. Oh come on. That was getting thrown around on these forums months before I even began posting. I guess an invitation to speculate away can't be taken at this point in good fun. There is kind of a problem with that site being additional parking lot for guests: how do you access it when the booths are four hundred feet after that point? I don't see parking suddenly becoming free... Unless it's just a backup lot for flooding scenarios. Maybe they found the flooded lot and lack of parking was a bigger issue for guests than 3 closed rides.
  11. I accept the speculation challenge and would guess if the parking lot gets expanded toward the dorms that they are looking at losing some parking lot space adjacent to the park itself. Possibly that coned area that was seen however many months ago.....Possible new coaster site identified! But back to how it connects to the current paths...I'd almost suspect a new amphitheater along the lines of the Palladium at Carowinds, as it is accessible without entering the park itself, and Valleyfair is certainly holding onto its defunct amphitheater with iron claws. It's like they're waiting for a new one before bringing down the old one. And that would put the next coaster where a lot of people here have suspected, right on the old amphitheater site. The new B&M invert, Centurion, would zero G roll over the entrance plaza and be accompanied by midway improvements, possible removal of the underperforming games, and a couple smaller flats will go in as well. Larson flyers maybe on the old scrambler pad, and the carousel gets its time to shine with a gorgeous redo and new housing to rival Great America. Followed the next year by the next waterpark expansion and then finally a Windseeker. Speculation achieved.
  12. It's going to be interesting to see how they handle additional waterpark expansion especially. By 2020 that whole part of the park will probably be dramatically different!
  13. Exactly. The park is going to have to do things outside the box in order to accommodate the growth they are capable of, especially with the restrictions of limited land, height, flooding tunnels, harsh winters, and a determination to not lose any current coasters. Nontraditional high-thrill coasters with strategically tight footprints are what we will get. Which makes a YOLO type a great option, I'm right there with you on that 100%.
  14. We're not on a coast, we're in the heart of the upper Midwest. And the market here is growing as the Twin Cities boom. I think that's why Valleyfair was listed as a growth park. I'm not expecting huge coasters, just good ones. I imagine a flyer at Valleyfair being a Vekoma Stingray--low capacity, extremely compact footprint, but unique enough to intrigue the crowds and give them more options. We don't have space for an invert larger than Flight Deck or Talon, I have no illusions about that, and I doubt we'd get one larger than Patriot. But it doesn't have to be huge to be fun and well-designed. Our largest coaster isn't our best coaster anyway. We may even wind up with an SLC as much as that idea is reviled...but the park wouldn't be worse for having one. I wouldn't put a small RMC outside the realm of possibility, but it probably wouldn't come in the next five years, as I'm sure RMC is booked with more Six Flags projects coming down the pipeline. They're probably cheaper than a B&M, especially if Cedar Fair decides to go for a package deal and get multiple coasters like Six Flags has been doing. But I'm just speculating there. Valleyfair would be expected to have an inverting wood coaster if both SFGA and Mount Olympus have one, as those are the parks we compete against.
  15. I think a floorless would be better simply because Valleyfair has all sitdown coasters now (except Steel Venom). We could use some coasters that put the rider in different positions to help diversify the line-up. I agree that B&M sitdowns are generally more awesome, but there are some killer floorless coasters out there. I really enjoyed Kraken myself, it's a great ride, and sticking your feet out while riding is more fun than it should be. Having a similar experience at Valleyfair would be great for the area. I think if Valleyfair gets an invert, a floorless, and a flyer--they don't have to be huge, just fun and thrilling--we'll be ready for more sitdown coasters. ....A full circuit launched sitdown can come anytime though, we need one so badly...and a custom RMC can come whenever too, love those crazy hybrid wood coasters. I think the current coaster collection is a great pool of basics for beginners, but we're ready for some unique experiences.
  16. All the maintenance sheds, offices and whatnot. If that bit of land was available, a nice invert could go there. Give it a wild west name, Condor or Desert Falcon...It would be excellent. But that is about as likely as Cedar Fair selling CP.
  17. I can easily see an invert between Renegade and High Roller--except for that pesky backstage area which would cost millions to rebuild in another spot (but that would open up a lot of options). I think an invert between Excalibur and Thunder Canyon is not outside the realm of possibility. I just hope it would be more than a coaster in a field. Landscaping and trees please! And talk about making people walk past all the food stands...I'm surprised that there isn't a bigger coaster back there already.

  19. Maybe they're not too concerned because there are going to be more changes in that area. There's a chance that they will eventually move the Soak City entrance to that spot between the new slides and splash pad, and use the old entrance walk as additional space for future slides. It's a nice, long and narrow strip of land, perfect for long slides. Maybe some mat racers? And even the concept art showed people using a path between the splash pad and slides..... There may still be brick pavers going over the cement base! It looks like there is a small height difference on the left from the cement to the bricks, and they do make thin paver bricks solely for laying over cement. I imagine the cement would prevent the bricks from heaving during thaws and melts in the Minnesota winters. Fingers crossed!
  20. It looks like they're going to use brick pavers. The path from Renegade to Planet Snoopy will all match now. That'll look very nice.
  21. It's cool to know that Steel Venom is one of only two impulses with an active holding brake, it makes Valleyfair more special. Now if the ride op would psych you out on the launch instead of a standard countdown, imagine how much more thrilling that would be for new riders. Then the holding brake at the end? Gaaaah! It looks like there's a huge pipe sticking out of the waterslide pad facing the midway, like six guys are working on it. Could this be a root pipe in preparation for future waterpark expansion in the next few years in the direction it faces? Never mind, they seem to have other plans for it.
  22. They really will need it if the slides draw the crowds they seem to be expecting! People will be swarming the waterpark.
  23. I am a huge fan of the holding brake on Steel Venom! It's the only ride in the park that made me fear for my life. A better lift on Wild Thing is a great idea. I'd dig Wild Thing a lot more if it clipped up that lift hill at a more aggressive pace. There's something about fast lifts that intimidate and make you go "Uh oh, it's fast! Am I really ready for this?!" Of course I'd like new trains to go with that fancy new lift system And maybe reprofile the bunny hills at the end to induce more airtime... Then install a modern brake system at the end so the MCBR can go away forever and the ride can live up to its name...ah, these castles in the sky...
