  1. Alrighty, I've re-asked, hopefully I get something this time. lol As for events, there are none. In fact the park is closed the next weekend in prep for Fright Fest.
  2. I'll try again, maybe someone will answer this time. lol I'm visiting Fiesta Texas here on September 21st. With that in mind, two questions: 1.) What are the crowds like for this time of year? It's a Sunday in late September, so I'm thinking not to bad. 2.) How should we go about rides? There is only three coming.
  3. Since everyone over in the Fiesta Texas topic seems too concerned with the new ride, I shall post here. I'm visiting Fiesta Texas here on September 21st. With that in mind, two questions: 1.) What are the crowds like for this time of year? It's a Sunday in late September, so I'm thinking not to bad. 2.) How should we go about rides? There is only three coming.
  4. Two questions concerning a trip to this park that I'll be taking on September 21st. (Also have season pass.) 1.) How are the crowds looking for this day? 2.) What is the best ride order?
  5. Post #1: August 18th, 1998 The first year of Marriott's American Adventure was an interesting one. Due to the parks hasty construction many problems arose. The park did its best to solve what it could but some will have to wait for the off season. Here I present the closing report for 1960! (Slightly edited of course.) Hello everyone, and welcome to the closing report for Marriott's American Adventure. My name is Mel T. as Mr. Schmit already has been promoted so expect a cross type report. We have also got a much better camera. Despite our issues, the first season went off very well. Great view of the park and layout of the Hurricane from atop American Wheel. Throughout the season we were constantly out in the park asking guest what they though of the park, and what we could do to improve. The biggest thing as mentioned on opening day was parking. Our short term solution put to effect is/was a dirt parking lot just on the other side of the creek. This land is actually bought land for future overflow parking as we plan to greatly expand the lot here during the off season. Next was the lack of signage in the park. Although the park was small, most guest thought it was still needed to have signs at the entrance of each ride. Also noting that ride requirements were actually at the ride, meaning some people waited in line only to find out that they couldn't ride resulting in much frustration. This went to the top of the priority list and was rectified within the first month. The sign found at most rides, also we have added height requirement signs as well. The restaurant got this nifty sign. Signs that hang to lamp post also were added. With one restroom in the park, over crowding was an issue. Midway through the Summer season we were able to add another smaller facility at the far side of the park near Road Ralley. The restroom has been themed a bit to fit in. Our final biggest concern is family rides, or lack therefore of. Many have complained that the park lacks rides smaller guest can ride and enjoy. Many found the American Wheel as the only one fitting the bill though some have spoken up of Pacific Crawler. (Almost everyone still finds The Whip still a tad extreme.) This is another victim of a quick build. For 1961 we plan on adding at least two if not more family rides. Taken onboard Pacific Crawler. We are still sifting through tons of guest comments and surveys as we speak and hope 1961 is even a better year. We hope to see everyone next Spring, but for now enjoy some more pictures. A view looking at the Pacific Crawler area. The park looks great at night from the wheel, if we only had better camera. (Though this new one is much better.) Final look near The Whip, here comes 1961.
  6. At JonnyRCT3: Thanks, I spent quite a bit of time researching and experimenting what a colored picture would look like back then. I'm not 100% satisfied, but it is pretty close. Next time it might be different though. The one thing you may have not noticed but a personal touch is I've added scan lines to the pic since this blog is before digital cameras. At thrillseeker4552: That's funny, I like to put my captions at the top because it makes it easier to read (in my opinion), especially when the pic is big and you have to scroll up to read the caption. It's all down to personal preference I guess.
  7. Look who's back. As previously mentioned I'm taking a quick break from the Elitch Gardens project. During this break I found a blog about a park that was in Omaha. I figured that I may share this parks history with you. Enjoy! Note you may want to skip right to the report but I posted the background as well. Hello everybody, my name is Connor Schamm. I've lived in Omaha almost all my life and now in my last year of high school as the class of 1998. One of the things we must do is a research project of our choosing. With so many possibilities I choose a amusement park that I used to go to all the time when I was younger. But even more exciting as you can see is that for the actual research portion of this project, we need to post what we find online on what is called a blog. It's very exciting and I am already having fun! Continuing on with my topic, I was lucky enough to be able to get in contact with the former owner which pointed me to a vast collection of reports from previous years. So I now intend to publish these reports here for everyone to enjoy. (Permission was given of course.) The report your about to see, and all future ones will be slightly edited. Here we go to a great year. Post #1: August 18th, 1998 In 1958 just after their first hotel, Marriott announced they planned to open an amusement park just outside of Omaha, Nebraska. The park was planned to open in 1960 but early issues pertaining to permits delayed construction. None the less Marriott pushed the 1960 date and opened up that year, despite being only half done. Hello, my name is Mike Schmit, the public relations director here at Marriott's American Adventure. After two years we are proud to open our doors to guest. Part of my job is to record park history for future generations and where better to start then day one? Before we opened, I took the following pictures. Here is the view after ticketing, the Ferris Wheel is one of the biggest in the world. All is quiet, for now. Here is the ribbon cutting. And here come the people! Our entrance is filling up. This is our guest services building, you can get information, maps, and more here. Already on opening day it starts to rain. But the skies clear up. Our Ferris Wheel has a fairly large cover for the queue. Behind guest services we have a typical rotor ride. Coming off the entrance you are greeted by The Whip. Don't be fooled though, it is pretty tame. I decided to take a quick whirl. Across the path is the topically themed Pacific Crawler. It is your standard Octopus ride that provides a good step up ride before higher thrills. Coming back across though is our signature attraction, the Hurricane. The themeing is also tropical here. The coaster was designed by John Allen and built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company. Despite the nearly 700 people in the park, it failed to attract early in the day. Next to Hurricane's queue is Lasso, it is a roundup ride with western flare. Beneath the trees is perhaps our most thrilling non coaster ride, Loop-O-Plane. And finally at the end of the main pathway is Road Ralleye. I decided to hop on a take a few shots, you can some great views of Hurricane as well. Right now the park only has one restaurant, the aptly named Creekside Grille. The views can't be beat! Inside everything is made fresh to order. Opening day did not go off without a hitch, parking was a huge issue. Our lot was not prepared for this many people as we had hoped more people would take the dedicated bus service. Overall comments are flooding in and I'll be back with the mid-Summer updated soon enough. (Sorry for the picture overload, there will be a lot less next time.)
  8. Well I'm glad we convinced you. The Banshee note just set me off.
  9. That's what I thought, but it wouldn't that strange to have two inverts.
  10. I had this thought on the back of my mind, but I'm pretty sure now, a B&M invert.
  11. I'm feeling the Vekoma Dutchman again. There could be a slight chance of an Arrow Swinging?
  12. It seems to be too obvious that it is a B&M of some type. (Most likely a Flyer.) Between the supports and that fact back on one of the first post about it related to Gladiator, a B&M still really seems like it. But you wouldn't make it that easy would you? I think the only other off chance is a Vekoma Dutchman which has supports that look like those in the pictures.. (It would have to be custom track though because none went higher then Pulse.)
  13. Thanks, it is actually multiple sets, the base what is gold is actually a roof piece either from the SK Hangar 51 set or SK HGR71 set, I can't remember. The chain is cover pieces from JackyX's Wooden Coaster Stuff so there isn't really a chain inside. Altogether way more realistic.
  14. Oooo, ya, if you could send me the files that would be great.
  15. RR's, only one I could find. Unless the Steel Rides one has less carriages (the RR has double the amount I need) or looks better (I doubt it) I'll be keeping this one. Not to mention the fact I can't seem to find it.
  16. Finally, and hopefully for the last time, Disaster Canyon is done. The complete overview. A look from the side. A close up of what I did with the Falls. The vegetation is thick in here. And now for some POV from TOD. I think these little touches make it so much better. Looking straight up the tower, the clouds just seal the mood perfectly. Nearing the top we take a look towards the Twister II area. And finally back towards what we just did. So what is next you may ask. First I'm going to touch up this area just a tad bit, then it will be on further to the east part. (A lot of trees coming.) Also, Twister II path work will finish up. But before I do that I'm going to start the timeline park so expect that here soon. If there are any shots you would like to see of Elitch's, let me know.
  17. Well it seem yet again my last post shows up then disappears again... Alright, so Disaster Canyon v3 is done ride wise. I also have to re-do some of Shipwreck Falls since I lowered terrain. Also Twister II path work has began. Side not that I will probably be firing up a second project in order to prevent a burnout. It will be a timeline park, but don't worry, I will continue work on this as well.
  18. E-Mail has been sent, but just in case here is the picture again: Textual update, Tower of Doom is done along with some stuff near Boomerang. But the major news is with Disaster Canyon. I'm upgrading (hopefully for the last time) to v3. I'm hoping to finish tonight and then post some more.
  19. Thanks, it took my quite a few hours to throw this together. I've heard CT waterslides haven't been released sadly but maybe there is a slim chance. The Tantrum will be easy because it will be a two in one special (just will not be able to actually run it) but for the half pipe I don't know yet. Maybe someone made a CS? Oh, and were you ever able to come up with Twister II's cue? P.S. I thought so.
  20. Alright, Shipwreck Falls is almost done! Here is an overview of what I did. You can see that I replaced the lift with something a little more realistic. Also, I added the catwalks to the side(s). And one more detail is that I used a stair set to give the down slope a tad bit of real life texture. Finally, got this section up on the Canyon. In some exciting news, my quest for Ghostblasters got a whole lot easier. I also found a set that includes some pieces for it and the rest I have an idea. Wish List: ~CT Sidewinder (I may buy NoLimits 1 and do it myself...But let me know.) ~Still looking for a building set that would be good for the entrance. ~The half pipe type waterslide (called Edge, looks like a wing kind of) ~A ProSlide tantrum (whatever that TubeTop thing is)
  21. Downright spectacular with that display, especially over the lake. Out of curiosity, how did you do the river rapids ride? Is it a CT or just a clever use of the default?
  22. Two weeks already, yesh, time is going by fast. Anyway, not much has been done besides some minor stuff to the river. Planning on working some more tonight. My new goal is to finish this by the end of the month. Oh, just in case want to know why I'm busy, here is my job : (Just got trained on the coaster last Friday and ran it on Saturday.)
  23. We shall try again! Here is Disaster Canyon v2 with foliage: Basic overview. You can also see I replaced the giant flume for the basic splash boats. The reason I did the flume was because it actually splashes down in the water instead of above. In the end though I hated that haul back into the station so I replaced it, liking it much better. Also it has started receive supports. Here is a nearly identical shot from earlier for comparison. Up close you can tell there are some gaps. And finally looking down the line again. Just as a basic idea to where I'm at, here is a picture behind Mind Eraser. The drop tower is actually smack dab in the middle of the background but due to LOD's it doesn't show up until close. Lastly, the view from the opposite corner. It is going to be close, but I should be able to squeeze it all in. Beyond Mind Eraser to the right from this point is the picnic area and then the water park. The corner closest will most likely be the wave pool and body slides. I will not say I'm not nervous that it might not make it, but I'm hoping. There may be some tight spots in the end, but we'll see...
  24. I posted some more pictures up but it doesn't look like they went through??? Anyway, I'll try again here soon.
