Should coaster entrances have weight scales?
Sf-Dad replied to adamd's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
As one who is one funnel cake away from having to take the walk of shame I understand the problem but scales will not solve the problem. Now if the scales had trap doors and dumped you out in the parking lot, maybe. -

I am not sure how this is any different than Hucks. Splash Pads are a free neighborhood or city park attraction in my view. I want my family to have fun without waiting in line as well. This could be accomplished by a) adding more rides or b) consistently fully staffing the tube slides and Big Kahuna with OPs. Most of the time one side or the other is closed or only one OP, thus long lines. I have noticed some really entertaining OPs on Tornado recently but their antics slow down the turnaround to much. But if he wants more for the little ones to do without any guards I guess it makes sense. He could also send out less pencil pushers with clipboards and have them help throttle the lines. Regarding the 4th package I looked into that but the web site gave precious little info about it. No mention of what food would be provided and no mention of where the preferred seating would be. Sounded like to much of a risk of being disappointed to me. Already have dinning passes so all I would be gaining is the seating in HH. If you allowed us to use the tubes with the wave pool turned up to max during fireworks that could be a thrilling experience. (At the risk of a bunch of BBQ clogging the filter house) -

I get the advisory panel surveys all the time but not that one. That is hysterical. Let's remind everyone how previous owners paid attention to landscaping and how beautiful it used to be. SFSTL needs a lot of things water and dry. The Joker Inc.: Reverse Blast is my prediction for next year. -

I checked usenet and seasons 1 & 2 are available but not 3 yet. A DVR search shows lots of reruns over the next couple of weeks. I was really impressed with the fireworks Saturday night, they were a lot better than I expected. Was less than impressed with the crowd it brought out however. Some yahoo was smoking on the ramps for Screaming Eagle right in front of kids, even up on the platform. -
In the US, yes you are responsible if your tree falls on another's car due to negligence, but this is usually settled by insurance companies. The homeowner's liability insurance usually covers any damages. Also, if it occurs during a natural disaster, all liabilities are waived as an "act of God." So if your tree comes down during an ice storm, it's not your fault, as it couldn't have been prevented. I am not a lawyer but have have had this situation occur with family members. If your tree falls onto other property you are only responsible up to your property line, your neighbor has to clear his property himself. This includes any property damage. That's what insurance is for. Trees can look perfectly healthy but have damaged root systems and then topple over in the right conditions. Unless you clear cut all the trees there is now way to "make sure this never happens again". S%^# happens. Eventually some giant sinkhole will open up and swallow a coaster. Hmmm. Maybe we can pitch a new movie to SYFY. Coasternado.

Carnival likes to use the same Hunts gravy from a can to pour all over your steak. Other than the excellent room service BLT sandwiches, I would skip Carnival. -

Dierbergs has a discount for 49. If you going for more than one day your best bet is a Thrill Pass. If you know the date and time you are going you could try and make a friend who has a season pass as there are many bring a friend days with steep discounts. Using discover card saves some as well. Go to the my coke rewards site and see what they have there. Need flash, I think. Paying the extra 5 or 10 for premium parking may be worth it to you if you plan on bringing your own food and it is a busy day. We are headed there this afternoon and plan on just lazy rivering it for a few hours, having dinner and checking out the fireworks. Probably will be to busy to do any slides or rides. -

Can any tell me what the park expected to be like this Friday or Saturday? Never been on the 4th. Would be a whole family event and after HH closes there is not much that interests my 8YO beyond the water rides until the fireworks. We have access to a parking garage at Highlands so Forest Park is an option as well but still concerned about the traffic. -

They need hillbilly detectors more than metal detectors! I use our swim team backpacks for trips to HH and last week security made me throw away a Sharpie for fear a 46 year old suburban Dad would go all gang graffiti on the park. That foolishness aside I am cool with the metal detectors and bag checks. Doesn't take all that long and helps keep the scum out. Last year I watched security turn away a snoopy dog with a weed shirt. I am all for legalization but this is a family park and not the place for this. This brings up a interesting political kerfuffle. So what happens when the open carry wing nuts win access to theme parks. Does the loose article policy apply? -

Wow, that is fascinating. That's a whole lot of water. Surely not the wave pool as well? Even lazy river? That would have to be one huge resevoir. Is the the implication here that all the attractions use one central filter/treatment facility? Would be really intersted in learning more about how these systems function. -

While we are kicking them for the landscaping I really noticed something today. All the grass is full of weeds. If a house in my neighborhood let their lawn go to crap like that they would shamed and ostracized. It really isn't that hard all it takes is some weed and feed a few times a year and an occasional aeration. A few of gallons of Round Up could fix the East St. Louis section of the parking lot. -

Thanks for The Boss tips. Just thought of a great name for a new ride. The Times Beach Incinerator. Thought of that after noticing the abandoned ramp on 44 today. -

Can someone make a "how to ride The Boss guide". What train is the best and where to sit. My son only sits in the middle because he is scared of the front and back. If one of you experts gave some recommendations he might step out of his comfort zone. We got rained out Friday afternoon but had a good afternoon today at HH. Noticed they raised preferred parking to $30 for $25. I think they pushed it to high, I have seen that lot fuller on a weekday. Thanks. -

What are the reasons the hill will never be developed? One I can think of is the other side of the hill is Greensfelder Park. There could be restrictions on how close SF can develop to it. -

My mother came along when we went Wednesday and we had a great conversation about what the park was like back in 71. I was only 4 so don't remember much about the first few couple of trips, but she said my grandparents were really impressed with how beautiful the park was with all the flowers. That certainly can't be said for it now. So I completely agree landscaping needs to be a top priority along with fixing all the dead fountains and waterfalls. I noticed they drastically cut back all the landscaping at to he west beach on lazy river. I guess they needed to do it for security reasons but it really makes the area look bare. Some attention to HH landscaping would be helpful to make it more lush. There is a big risk in this approach because without "real" capital improvements as well the park becomes more irrelevant as a destination. Nobody wants "crazy" expansion, but neglecting either the families or the thrill seekers is not a recipe for success, just decline and they will get labeled a "rust belt" park. -

I haven't been on The Boss yet this season, but last year twice was my max tolerance in a day. Would love to see a RMC retrack but how do you sell it? "The New and Improved Boss"? From a GP standpoint it just sounds lame. You mean you did what you should have been doing all along and maintaining your coasters? How are they selling it at other parks?
