They're both terrible but for different reasons. I prefer Green Lantern only because it's more interesting and intense and I've at least had some decent rides on it, while Apocalypse is consistently just not a good ride. If you're tall enough and can ride defensively, headbanging isn't much of an issue with Green Lantern. The more forceful elements make for some ridiculous quad pains. It's quite the trade off for me because it's not a pain you're used to experiencing on coasters. With Apocalypse, the coaster is so small and slow that there are basically no positive g's to speak of that allow pain in your legs. Somehow, even though it takes the elements so slowly and only inverts twice, the headbanging approaches SLC level. If you think Green Lantern rattles you around then you're in for quite a treat with Apocalypse.

I think it depends on the ride. El Toro is very temperamental depending on the weather, temperature, how full the trains are, how smooth it's running that day, etc, and the nature of its layout makes it fairly easy to tell whether its running at its full potential. That being, in the evening after a 90 degree August day. Other rides it's not as easy to tell, or it might even seem faster in the cold. Kingda Ka is not as temperamental because it's launched so it's within about 2% (3pmh or so) of its top speed 100% of the time. The cold weather can make the wind feel more extreme, making it feel "faster." I think Batman is similar, especially because it's very small and the weather won't impact it's speed as much as a ride like El Toro. It's also not as dependent on whether it's retaining that last mph or not--it's intense whether it hits the brakes at 40 or 42.

Underrated Coasters?
Password121 replied to Yero's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^THIS I've said this before and for some reason people came to defense of Grizzly and Rebel Yell at Kings Dominion, but Woodstock Express is definitely the smoothest wooden coaster at KD, and I would argue has the best airtime of the three. I've never found Rebel Yell to have anything even hinting at ejector, and you'd have to be sitting in a good seat on a good day to convince me it has "mass quantities of floater airtime." Seriously when I say Woodstock Express at KD is the best wooden coaster in the park, that's not a knock on the other three (although I personally don't think any of them are decent coasters), it's my high appraisal of Woodstock. The back row has some scary moments of ejector. -
no. I agree. If SFOG does get this product, it won't be because of some silly anniversary. There's no way they could market that and it's not good business sense. Parks get major investments because it's a good time for it and they intend to grow, not celebrate some silly anniversary and coincidental number with RMC products. SF makes some stupid decisions but not like that.

I'd put money on either of the first two. I haven't heard much about it but I'd assume it was scrapped. I want to say it was removed around 2009ish so there's no way they would leave it sitting in storage for 5+ years before they had any plans to remove Shockwave. If it was going to another park in the chain that would've happened a long time ago. -

Wait really? Anaconda is complete garbage. After the first loop the ride is complete crap. The butterfly element is too banked for the speed the ride has after the mid-course, and sitting in the back row through the corkscrews I came the closest I've ever come to motion sickness. You're speeding up going upwards and hanging upside down too long coming out of them. I always regret any time I choose to give that heap of steel a chance. It's seriously on the same tier as Hurler and Mind Eraser at SFA. I would say maybe I just had a bad ride but every single ride has been worse than the last. However, if you can somehow find something redeeming about the ride (which is hard going up the lift with I-305 literally a hundred feet away), then I applaud you. I really wish I could enjoy such coasters so easily. -

^I'm not saying you're wrong (although I disagree), but basic physics says that you would not be smashed against the restrains (causing headbanging) if the ride were even moderately smooth. That doesn't mean you wouldn't be forced into the restraints (caused by g-force), but the jerk (which is a physics term, not an adjective) caused by roughness is what causes headbanging. -

yes!! where can i look at them daily?? Umm... the webcam? It's a very simple layout, I would think watching the webcams would be about as "live" as you can get watching construction. As for being indifferent about the ride, here's my take. The dive machines in the states are both really solid rides. From a layout perspective only, Valravn is the best one. I don't think there's really any dispute over that because it's basically Griffon with a little more substance on the back end, plus a little extra on the lift and drop. While Valravn probably won't have the immersive theming the other dive machines tend to have, it will probably have the best setting and display, looking over the marina and main midway below. Griffon and SheiKra are probably top three rides at their respective parks (which both have really impressive collections had the Busch parks not hogged all of B&M's greatness in the 90's), and will probably be one of the better coasters at Cedar Point. I'll find out for myself next summer but I imagine it'll be around number four or five for me. I'm with you guys in saying that I want Cedar Point to build another Millennium Force. Not actually an MF clone, but something on the same scale, with the same presence and grandeur. Valravn definitely isn't that, but you can only ask for so much, and when the tallest and fastest dive machine doesn't cut it for you, you're looking at a truly ridiculous park with top-shelf expectations. Imagine if, say, Great Adventure had announced this for 2016 instead. I'd bet the reaction would be a lot less ho-hum and a lot more, "Holy sh*t, Six Flags is on to something!" -
If you're trying to spend a whole day, the water park is decent and worth a couple hours if you want. Other than that, crowds are never an issue especially during the week. Don't bother with a flash pass. The park is better than people say it is, but don't go in expecting anything spectacular. Best coasters are Superman, Wild One and Jokers Jinx--all worth re-rides.

I'm fairly certain the larger dive machines are 47 degrees as well. I've seen it as both but the sources saying 45 degrees are generally much less specific and knowledgeable about the ride in general, so I don't trust them. ^^It was funny for a little while but I'm kinda tired of all this "Cedar Point stole "X" park's coaster" nonsense. Maybe it's just me though. -

No need to debate this any further. I can't handle it. You win. Oh, and by the way, your post makes no sense. You say it will most likely go to one of three parks including Dorney, and in the same breath say it cannot go to Dorney? Where are you finding these supposed "released" yearly budgets? I'm calling bullsh*t on that one. And I'm not allowed to express my opinion when I disagree? I'll keep that in mind for my next post on a *discussion* board. Anyways, moving on from that aside. I'm not familiar with the layout of Carowinds, but is it possible the new Top Scan could sit where Thunder Road's queue/station once were, or is that entirely covered by the waterpark expansion? -

^Cedar Fair put a number and a promise into Carowinds based on projections. They delivered on that $50 million promise and the surrounding area has responded even more positively than Cedar Fair envisioned. The rumors are that they aren't done with Carowinds, short or long term, and may very well be increasing that $50 million figure. With Valleyfair, however, there has been no promise. Just statements, investor hope, if you will. The reality is that the 2015 slide complex may have been the primary attraction investment, and with a lower ROI outlook for more expensive investments, they may not see major capital as a valid investment into Valleyfair. A new shoe and flying scooters don't scream "growth" to me, unfortunately. As for you plan, mill take you up on that. You're insane. That's easily $40 million in three years, excluding the infrastructure work they've been doing recently. I know it's your home park and I can relate (mine being Six Flags America), but the relocate is that the money, the promise, just isn't there. And no, theyre definitely not done with Carowinds. Not to mention, the 2017 new coaster budget is looking somewhere between Canada's Wonderland/Kings Dominion. -

That might be true, but it also has nothing to do with what you argued in your last post. Experience is an entirely different subject than which chain has the best of each coaster type. If you want to argue about experience, don't talk about which chain has better giga coasters. It's pointless and irrelevant. -

That is so skewed and opinionated. I don't want to get into an argument about this but best GCI? Really? People don't go to a park because of the "best GCI." People don't know what a GCI is, they see "wood coaster--cool!" If you put in best GCI then you might as well make it best wood, which no doubt goes to Six Flags for either El Toro or Goliath. Toss in best hyper, and you probably have Bizarro/Superman. Best giga? That's just a Cedar Fair thing. Not a comparison to make. There's only one wing coaster each... how does that dictate which *chain* does a better job with wing coasters? And X-Flight might be better anyways lol. As of 2015 neither chain has a Dive coaster. Are you seriously going to say Cedar Fair is better with Dive coasters because Six Flags chooses not to work with B&M for a 2016 Dive coaster? Toss in 4D coasters, RMC coasters, flying coasters, Intamin Prefabs, Premier Launchers... then you have, well, still a stupid thing to debate. It means nothing at all. Oh, and RMC coasters -
Made it out to the park today for my last visit of the year (and perhaps a long, long time... because college, etc). Overall it was about as busy as I expected--not very. The midways seemed busier than the queues which is weird because a few of the coasters and rides were closed. Maybe the overcast skies and short periods of drizzle kept more people away, but I managed quite a bit of riding in just a few hours. From 11am to around 2:30, I tallied... Nitro, 3x Batman (still backwards), 1x Kingda Ka (front row), 1x Zumanjaro (walk on), 2x El Toro, 9x It's a little strange being alone at parks, but I love being able to do what I want and when I want. No way I could do El Toro NINE TIMES in the magic seat with anyone that's not that into coasters. It's nice to just geek out and enjoy myself every once in a while. As for the park, there were some of the same standard issues (like cutting, El Toro running one train with lap bar difficulty until around 1, etc) but I don't really want to get into that because it was overall a great day and I didn't need to spend a dime. Six Flags sucks sometimes but where else can you ride El Toro, well, anywhere? That alone makes it worth it. A few pics I snapped here and there, sorry for the vertical photos (I know, I know...). Walk-ons abound! Nothing better I always ride this once. The ride sucks everywhere except the front, so you should wait the extra 20 minutes. Just do it. The trek across the Zumanjaro Great Plains. It takes longer to get to it than to wait, so I rode twice in a row without getting up. And it also makes for some interesting views of the best ride in the park/east coast/country/world, depending on your perspective. One last look at Nitro on the way out. One more time? Car 6, row 2. That's my address when I'm at Great Adventure.

It's been a rumor that Bizarro would be relocated to another park for many years. It seems that it's been an enthusiast-driven rumor--no hard evidence at all. The ride actually still does some decent numbers (1.1 million so far in 2015) despite it never having a line. From those that actually do have connections with the park, the word around different sites is that there are no immediate plans for relocation.
