I'm still trying to come up with a good way of doing it without drag and drop that works reliably for larger lists. But if you just want the worst, give them like 100000.

Re: how many to rank It calculates rankings the same way as the Mitch Hawker poll did. Basically, if you rank them, awesome. If you don't want to spend the time, then the worst thing that happens is either only a few people influence those coasters (but likely, they aren't that good anyway, or more people would have ridden them) or it'll mark them as having only a few/no riders and that it was unsure how they actually rank. The whole idea behind this methodology is the number of riders isn't the only thing that contributes to the final results. Because when you do that, parks like Cedar Point win, simply because of volume. And parks like Wild Waves in Washington that has a pretty cool little S&S wood coaster practically don't even make the list. All in all, I'd rather have a really good, fair, list of the top 50 than a mediocre representation of the top 700.

I tried both. Still getting the "no" symbol as soon as I click arrow or coaster name. I can drag, but cannot drop anywhere. I tried Firefox. I was able to drag coasters to the ranking list. Still no drag and drop in Chrome. Weird, I'm able to drag and drop in Chrome. Just not save. You can’t save because there’s nothing for it to save. If you drag on the arrow from the lower grey box into the upper area, it should move, and then save will work.

Yep. It’s also larger so when there’s nothing there it’s easier to drag something to it. What part of it are you trying to drag from? The coaster name and the arrows on the side are both the handles that you can drag with.

Hmm. Random numbers? Was it sorting them based on the random numbers or how you set it before?

Scrolling up (or really a lack thereof) is something I need to work on more. And figure out why everything always becomes a 1 if dragged a second time. In the meantime, however, a workaround is to renumber everything how you want it, save (make sure it actually pops up saying it saved), then refresh the page. They'll all be in the correct order when you reload. I found it was more difficult to use if it automatically reordered when you typed in a number.

Wow, you really broke it. I’ll have to take a look later this evening to see what I can find. Unfortunately I don’t have a good solution for you at the moment.

Ok. I made some changes to try and be a little more clear about what it’s expecting you to do. When you click “Ridden”, it knows you’ve ridden it, but it doesn’t have a ranking for it yet (because that’s a separate table to make it easier to generate the results. So instead of just sticking in some random value for the rank, it goes down below. When you know how you want to rank it, you can drag it up out of the grey box and we’ll give it a rank based on where you put it, and move everything else out of the way.

Ok. Until I find a way to make it easier, this might make it clearer.

For the people who say saving isn't working, what icon is on the left of the coaster name? It should be an up/down arrow. There'll also be a number box to the left, with it's actual position. Those should be saving. If you're dragging around coasters with a single up arrow, it doesn't actually have a ranking yet to save. It needs to be moved up above this line to work. I now realize that's difficult since you can't drag and scroll up easily (and I'm working on that). I'll come up with a better solution (hopefully...) soon. And something for the giant slightly unhelpful list of coasters.

Ok. I'll take a look at fixing the duplicated coasters. As for the duplicates, you can type a number into the side, and change them to whatever you'd like. It'll save and drag around like normal.

This is by design. Either because you think two coasters are too close to compare, or because you have a large list of "pretty good" rides that you don't have strong opinions of. You can actually have an unlimited number of similarly ranked coasters. Although that makes it pointless.

Good News! RANKINGS CAN BE SAVED!!! So the most annoying problems hopefully have been addressed. Specifically, drag and drop actually works in Chrome (there was a change and the package had to be updated). Plus, you can actually save the rankings that you spent so much time working on. It'll auto-save after a few seconds of inactivity, but you can also save on your own if it makes you feel better. And now that you can actually see changes we make to coasters or parks, without waiting 2 hours, it's much easier to make sure things get done and corrected.

No. There’s no point in ranking a coaster no one will ever ride again (as far as we know).

That’s definitely something that I can add, for the entire park. Just find that coaster again anywhere and click “Ridden” again. It toggles between “ridden” and not. It’ll be remove from your ranking if you “unride” it.

So, some interesting comments about searching. It should actually bring up results from a specific state, the catch is that currently limited to only knowing “ID” as in “Athol, ID”. The search is powered by Algolia, so there’s a lot of functionality that can be there, it’s just a matter of supplying it the right data. And the “Keep Looking” button does actually show more results, but with a dataset of only about 500 coasters only, it narrows down the results so quickly (within a few letters) that there’s practically never more than 25 results needed to get a second page. I personally think being able to search quickly (over 90% of searches are <1ms) and accurately is huge, so I’m all for trying to make improvements to it.

Something that is totally possible and valid is to group similarly ranked coasters together. So, instead of having a specific #31-#50 (for example), you might have like 10 that are all about equal all as #30. You can't drag and drop, but you can change the number directly. Although apparently you can't save it, so no promises just yet.

I'd rather you rank them as you rode them. If they're crap now, their rank will likely reflect that. If they're so awesome it outweighs that, then we'll see that as well.

Okay, so quick update. We're currently working on adding more parks and coasters. Sorry to Six Flags for the forgotten ones... There's an issue with caching, where new parks/coasters don't immediately show up. Thank You! to everyone who's reporting issues, cause it's really hard to find problems with just me. Kiddie coasters aren't going to realistically compete as far as the poll is concerned. Dead/Defunct coasters are dead, and knowing how they rank isn't a concern of ours. It doesn't do anyone any good. Coasters with major changes, I'd like to refer to them in their current form. Because that's what matters when looking at the results.

Ok. I'll add that to my list of things to check. That might be a caching thing.

That's correct. We'll be able to "run" a list at any time of how things stack up, and we'll likely do that once we get some of the more glaring errors fixed, with plenty of notice.
