  1. It might actually be the same exact structure, it looks like they pulled it out of a dumpster.
  2. Why is it going to be insanely busy? I might see if I can make it there that weekend also but if I manage to go it will be Sunday (Saturday plans cannot change.). I've been to this place many many times and although it hasn't been for a year or two, I've gotten there late, ridden everything I've wanted to (at least every major coaster at least once) and left early without one of these Flash Pass Things.
  3. Lol they copied the failed DCA wave swinger in an orange! I guess they put it in a lime though.
  4. Also PP closing on the 3rd doesn't mean it's going to be bulldozed starting the next day. The closing date could merely have to due with the end of the busier part of summer.
  5. Besides the fact that some hills pass under rather than over, and the route from the station to the lift appears mirrored, it looks pretty much the same. Yeah there are other smaller changes, but I don't think that old image is a truly accurate representation of what it was going to be at that time anyways.
  6. I think seeing snoopy in the moon is reading a bit too much into it. Also the moon is not a planet... its a moon. Thats a NASA photo of the real moon and look, same shapes. I think they are announcing a new launch site for the US space program! That or maybe the tallest S&S tower (do they have one)? That would be pretty cool. Either way this screams 'launch' something or other.
  7. I guess you could also add the fact the top hat isn't necessarily 100% a top hat from what I understand. I'm not sure what the true definition is, I don't think the entrance and exit have to be completely vertical, but most every top hat I know of, the entrance and exit are more or less the same in length. And the entrance to this top hat isn't all that steep or as long as the drop on the other side.
  8. Is that an ice rink? That thing is gigantic! If the trains are as bad as people say they are, then maybe they will get new ones, or at least give them some new padding and a paint job or something. I don't think Six Flags is stupid enough to claim a new ride then have it look like total Poop. Being one of the original Six Flags parks I was actually impressed with the look of this park. Yeah I guess it's been a number of years since they got a major coaster, but maybe they are just trying to keep you guys warm till they can bring you the big one. They added a decent looking GCI and a spinning coaster since I've been there. And hey, Great America isn't all that far away (nor are WoF and Holiday World).
  9. If they do end up doing this to Colossus I would like to see it be a bit less drastic than what they have done with the Texas rides. They could make the lift a bit taller with a steeper drop, then bank the turnarounds due to the extra speed. Then they could add in a barrel roll or some of those 90deg sideways hills on some of the smaller hills or where the MCBR thing is.
  10. Not knowing much about the original and never ridden it, it was really hard to tell how this new ride compared. It kinda does follow it without the helix. What I really wonder now, since I didn't follow the construction of Texas Giant, is do these things actually use anything from the original rides? Do they use the footers or any original support structure or are the more or less from scratch? I would think they would really benefit from replacing all the old beams n such which makes me wonder why these things are built in a similar route at all.
  11. I think it's premier that makes those drag racing rides. This could be done!
  12. I'm glad to hear this is going in the dolphin stadium. When the rumor were of a new show I was starting to think moving Shouka wasn't really for the best interest in the whale. It's nice to see that it didn't have anything to do with this after all.
  13. I still have hopes that Knotts will have a new 2013 attraction. It hasn't been said if they will announce anything yet, certainly wasn't supposed to be today. They haven't even said what the deal with Haunt is yet. It seems like each of the Cedar Fair parks announces whenever is best for them, and not all in one go like Six Flags has been doing.
  14. For some reason those two new photos remind me of Space Mountain. I mean like aspects of the building and and signs n stuff.
  15. I think 3 trains could be possible but it will probably use 2. Yes the train must complete the ride for the next one to start the circuit. There is no way it would be safe for another train to launch simply because a train left the 2nd launch. If there was a rollback on the top-hat due to lack of speed or some other malfunction, that would be bad. If there is a staging area, they could clear the station to load another train while the staged train waits for the track to clear. I'm sure 2 will be what it uses most of the time but there will probably be 3 trains in existence. So does this mean that Superman Ultimate Flight at SFDK and all the impulse coasters are 3 launch coasters also? I guess Cheetah Hunt isn't so unique after all.
  16. Unless Knotts comes out of left field, this seems the be the best 'for 2013' ride in CA.
  17. I don't know whether to love (because its funny) or hate the corny tagline and logo. "Live it. Be it. Ride it." Lol. This ride is trying to somehow communicate with people in the 80s. On a side note, normal Season passes are only $65, pretty cool. The gold pass is $115, so that went up and the normal pass went down. $50 extra seems like a lot for free parking unless you go all the time and don't know a better place to park...
  18. Could use a full POV I guess that's more of a zero g than straight up barrel roll, so they can still claim a first ever on this I guess. This looks so amazing though, and while amputating classic rides to make these things is somewhat sad, they seem to be turning out as incredible rides.
  19. Well damn. While I hoped for more, this still looks pretty impressive. That loop is going to look nuts compared to the first modern loop ever on Revolution. And yeah, seeing the ride in it's true form makes the stop and 2nd launch look super pointless. That top-hat however looks like the best airtime hill anyone could ever ask for. The graphics/typography and music in the video is... interesting.
  20. I'm sure it will. It allows them to clear the station and start loading another train, before the track is actually clear or the launch mechanism is ready in TTD's case. Revenge of the Mummy also works in a similar way, but the dark ride portion is effectively the staging area on that ride. I don't think it will simply roll out of the station and zip off like Sky Rocket... unless the track is clear
  21. That is the weirdest carousel I've ever seen. I know some exist without the poles like the racing type, but I've never seen one like this with the giant wheels under it and flooring made of 'fences.' Also I had no clue there was a Stonehenge replica, and I get that it's a memorial but I still don't understand why.
  22. Yeah I'm still expecting something more Sky Rocket than Superman. It sounds like a mix between the two though. I think there is going to be much more than loop, dive-loop thing, second launch, top-hat, done. I think there is going to be more turns and hills thrown in-between those things, such a huge waste of energy otherwise. ^Superman goes 100mph and it goes up more than 300 feet. I wouldn't expect the top hat to be that big at all, certainly close to the 200ft range though. Somewhat Xcelerator in size I suppose. Fog and some sort of lame engine revving sound, or whatever this ends up being "themed" to. @chickenbowl While I was thinking track switch earlier, this just sounds like a normal hill it wont make it around with such a slow reverse speed. What concerns me now though is capacity. I firmly believe this ride will still use the set of 6people cars, like the last few rides the have built with their new trains. Having a pause and then a train having to move backwards before clearing the track seems like it could really effect the throughput of the ride (unless the ride is short, but hopefully not. Might also work with a staging area before the first launch outside of the station).
  23. Yeah they added Jet Steam because of how popular it was. Not sure how true this really is but my dad always told me Log Jammer was the longest log flume ever built. That may have been true at one time but I'm not sure if that was still true more recently. I mean flume length not ride time, Splash Mountain and other flumes obviously had it beat there. ^Oh wow that would be amazing!! A small backwards launch before going forwards again sounds really different for a non impulse, actually full circuit type coaster. This still holds true to the backwards launch out of the tunnel rumor with effects. As far as effects in the tunnel will be, I'm not expecting a whole lot. Hopefully it will at least have some doors on it otherwise I really expect any effects to be marginal as light would bleed in there really badly otherwise. This sounds like a proper re-purpose of the monorail tunnel though!
  24. I'm planning on getting a 2013 pass after they become available tomorrow. It will allow me to head down to SFDK and finally ride Superman before the season is over, and then I'll be able to use it next season to ride the new coaster at SFMM. I'm actually going to be in LA around the 15th, but since the park is only open on weekends then (and apparently that Monday due to all LA county schools having a furlough or something) I probably wont be able to go. Comparing it to Cedair Fair passes it is a much better deal, assuming the prices stay fairly similar. If you want to be able to go to any Cedair Fair park other than the one you bought the pass at its more than double the price, with Six Flags other parks are included at the base price. For most likely just staying in CA SFMM and SFDK for $80 is a much better deal that CGA, Knotts, and Gilroy Gardens (although I've never been to Gilroy) for $180.
