Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
gp1086 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Man -- I haven't been here in years. Need to plan another trip to Sandusky. Do they still serve those cinnamon sugar covered elephant ears? Skyhawk remains arguably my favorite flat. -
Have one day (weekday) in March to visit one of the Disney World Orlando parks. Will any of them be significantly less crowded than the other? Here are my considerations for each one - tell me which to choose: Epcot - haven't been there since I was about three-years old (mid-twenties now) and am intrigued by the food options, as well as Test Track. Seems to be light on rides otherwise. Animal Kingdom - never been there and like animals. Seems to be light on the rides as well. Hollywood Studios - I love movies. Have gone a while back and went on Tower of Terror. Magic Kingdom - Just an overall classic Disney park and the epitome of the Disney experience.

So I'm seriously considering purchasing a membership after reading more about it today. My biggest issue with the season pass is going through the processing every season and this seems to be a one-and-done ordeal. Are there any drawbacks I might not be considering vs. purchasing a season pass? Might it make more sense to wait until April / May so I don't make a few months a payments, or will the price likely go up?

Indeed. I was discussing with the people I went with what the revenue / earnings must have been yesterday. Imagine revenue would have to be multiple millions of dollars, even with season pass admissions taking a portion of the attendance. While it's not necessarily "fun" to go when it's so crowded, it is kind of cool to see the park so vibrant and lively. Next time I'll have to do a Tuesday in early June.

Some photos from yesterday: Where the Nitro line started around 5:00 p.m. Solid 2 hour wait - love that they still play the Mortal Kombat music. This ride rocks at night. Finally towards the front of the Nitro line. Not too jealous of Flashpass folks who look to be waiting 20 minutes or so. Batman queue looks full too while we're waiting. At least I'm riding a good one. Navigating the Boardwalk at 8:00 p.m. If I wanted to go on fewer rides, I could have waited in the Season Pass processing line that looked to be a minimum of 45 minutes (no hyperbole). Why can't SFGA make this more efficient? Pretty cool motorcycle stunt show on the Boardwalk after finding at Kingda Ka's "line" (not ride) was closed for the night. Walking out of the park. A similar experience to navigating through a standing room only rock concert.

Photo TR: Highways To Hershey

Nice report! Never been to Hershey Park, but it's on my bucket list. -
Went to the park yesterday expecting it to be crowded (there were even warning signs on the drive in), but I could not have imagined just how packed it could be. By the time it got dark out, there were just hoards upon hoards of people regardless of where you went in the park. Yes, including bathrooms, arcades, and stores. One of the workers at Johnny Rockets (20 minute wait for chicken fingers btw) mentioned that they have "maxed out" in the past, which I imagine may have happened yesterday. Makes me wonder what the max capacity is. Got there at 1:00 and left at 10:30 - got to go on 4 rides. Zumanjaro first (1 hr wait), El Toro second (1.25 hr wait), Nitro third (2 hr wait), and Superman last (1 hr wait). Even the flash pass line on Nitro had a 20 minute line probably. Heard rumblings that the wait for Zumanjaro at night was 4 hours. Regardless, I just love being around the park and always have a fun time. One thing that really pissed me off is that they "closed the line" (had never heard that phrase before) of Kingda Ka from 8:30 onwards. This to me is just wrong when it's one of the main attractions you advertise. In the past they've let people get on lines until the park closes - which I don't necessarily always expect, but closing a ride 3.5 hours early is unacceptable. I certainly didn't see them closing the lines to upcharge attractions. Two thumbs down here.

Thoughts from my trip to the park yesterday: - Knew it was going to be more crowded than my liking when they had all 12 parking lanes open and there was a 10 min wait to get through (approx 11:30 a.m.) - apparently a lot of people don't care about football and / wanted to bring a friend for free - First stop, Zumanjaro. Mistake thinking the single rider line would be quick. It was probably 1/3 the size of the normal queue, but moved about 1/5 the pace, or maybe slower. Took me over an hour to move about 70 feet. Still though, the ride is AWESOME! So much fun. - Always considered / thought of "Best of the West" as a hidden gem for eating. Not so much yesterday, before they had 2 lines opened up, it was probably a 20 minute wait to get lunch (around 12:45). Then they opened both lines and it was a little quicker. - Checked out Safari line after lunch. 2 HOUR WAIT! Dammit. I came back at 4:55 and it was already closed for the day. WTF!? - Shorter ride queues (< 30 mins during day) included: Bizarro, Skull Mountain, Houdini's (fun to do every now and then) - Reasonable queue in afternoon (30 mins): El Toro, Green Lantern - Closed rides: Superman, Log Flume, Runaway Train. Think everything else was open. - Rides I skipped due to time: Nitro, Batman, TDK, Twister, Skyscreamer, - I've continued to ask myself this every year since I used to go all the time in 2009 - WHY THE HECK IS THE SHORTCUT FROM NEAR KINGDA KA TO EL TORO CLOSED? It used to be so convenient to cut through near where the tigers were. Now you have to go all the way back to Boardwalk and walk around. Easily adds 10 minutes to the walk. Is there anything there now? - Despite the single rider line being inconveniently placed so late into the Green Lantern queue, the line was never empty, so can't say it really added to the wait. - Towards the end of the night I got to ride Zumanjaro again (cool in dark), Kingda Ka (always such a blast), and El Toro 2x in a row (got last ride of the night, so they let some of us stay on). All this happened within about 1.5 hours, so not too shabby. - Side note, really wish they had the ride "Chaos". Remember going on that during a HS field trip and it was badass. Will be back for Fright Fest in October and guessing I can anticipate an even larger crowd.I need to start taking days off from work again in the summer to avoid people.

So I haven't been since Fright Fest last year, but am considering a trip this Saturday considering I still have the Season Pass I bought. Other than Zumanjaro - anything else new this year in terms of food, rides, etc. that I should be sure to check out? Would like to check out Safari if line isn't gigantic like last year.

I frankly can't believe the amount they charge for the Haunted Attractions - I believe $15-$20 per one after already paying admission. Seriously? Sorry, but I feel like I'm getting ripped off and am not willing to support that. People say the economy is in the toilet, but I have to question that, given how crowded the park was on Saturday. How on earth do so many people afford this? Tickets are $70 a pop after taxes, $25 for parking, each meal is at least $10-$15 a person.

So went to the park yesterday (Saturday) - quick summary / thoughts: [*]Was ridiculously PACKED - there for six hours and only got on El Toro, Kingda Ka, Bizzaro, and Skyscreamer. I also ate, but everything had at least a 45 minute wait at all times (most of the time more than an hour). This even includes when the lines were long for the Fright Fest attractions [*]Got my season pass processed - waited about 25 minutes. Appeared to be the same amount of time for rest of the day. [*]Saw a ROLLBACK on Kingda Ka while in line - highlight of the day [*]Fright Fest was well done. I love how they got rid of safety whistles. A lot of characters out and the actors seemed into it. [*]The haunted attractions are a little pricy for my liking. Still have never done them. [*]Still annoying how that pathway that used to be between Kingda Ka and El Toro is closed (have to walk all the way around to the boardwalk section [*]I wish the park had signs throughout or an app that showed wait times. Walked 15-20 minutes to El Toro at one point only to find out it was closed. Also, we still need more single rider lines. [*]Got free parking yesterday with my 2014 Season Pass, which I wasn't expecting. Nice. In the end, although the day was a bit of a letdown, I still love Six Flags and plan to go back next year with the season pass I picked up (thanks for the tip Yoshi).

If you think you are going to go to the park at least once next year, you are better off buying season passes. A regular season pass is $73 and is good for the rest of this year and all of next year or for $100 you can get the gold pass which includes parking (which would probably be worth it since parking costs $25 a day). Thanks, YoshiFan! Much appreciated!
