  1. I would imagine that a new family ride would take its place. Seeing that Rowdy's Ridge is geared for families, it would make sense. Also, the only rides that the park has installed since RR have been thrill rides. If a new owner steps in next year, a great way to start off would be some general improvements along with that. As we all agree on here, the park needs a new big coaster badly, and the only way to get that is through new ownership. I could see them making a big splash in 2017 by installing one, whether it be new or a Lake Monster style refurb. It would be a huge building block to putting us back on the map. As the town said in the one document "The parks needs continuous investment to be successful" Kind of paraphrasing because I don't remember the exact words used. But it is very much true... People won't come if year after year the same old rides are here year after year. RT and Brain Drain are a good start this year; and I think the attendance shows.
  2. These actually look like fun. I'm sure they'll be responsible for a lot of broken legs though.
  3. If you're going to both MFI and Seabreeze, you should hit Darien Lake, which is right in the middle. MFI and Seabreeze are both nice little parks with a lot of charm, but I think you'll find that you won't be spending too long at either, mainly MFI. Of course, you can marathon the Silver Comet, but if they are still running the same loading procedure you may become aggravated. I suggest sitting mostly in the front for that one. Besides the first drop, the back really has no airtime. The front does on every dip. Seabreeze is a nice little park. The Bobsleds are a unique coaster, and I really enjoyed Whirlwind. Jack Rabbit is pretty tame altogether, but that's what to expect from a coaster that's 95 years old. They have a very big nice waterpark too, and the log flume is nice. I think it holds the record for steepest log flume.
  4. Totally right. Anything in science usually goes faster in the heat. The grease in the bearings is really loose/thin and there's a lot less friction.
  5. ^^ The park has been up for sale for at least a few years now. From a document that I found online, the park was expected to be sold by 2016. The big suitors right now are Herschend and Premier. Herschend left after last year because they only wanted to buy Darien, but the other parks were sold as a package. But they could very well still be interested after Elitch Gardens was sold as a single property.
  6. ^I'll definitely have to hit it next time. I used to be a big fan of S&S towers, but now I feel like I have gotten used to them by now. It's like I know exactly when they launch/drop and I have become a bit immune to their forces. I like the idea of dropping while the car is still moving so you have no idea to brace yourself.
  7. I have a question about Stratosfear. I made my first trip to Knoebels a few weeks ago, but I was not able to stay long at all and only got on a few of the major things (not including Stratosfear). What makes people rave about it so much? Does it have some sort of special feature that makes it more intense, or is it something that I'm missing?
  8. That's why I worded it with "controversy" in front of mechanical issues. I'm on the side that agrees that the mechanical issues are overblown. It's not Intamin's fault that Lewis, the Six Flags five and dime mechanic has absolutely no experience with the complicated technology. But if you want a coaster that pushes the envelope, Intamin is the only company that is willing to do that nowadays.
  9. That idea sounds pretty cool to me as well, and given that price tag, certainly doable! One question: Is there a reason you'd want Premier, rather than Intamin, to manufacture the coasters? A) US park chains are taking a break from Intamin due to controversy with the rides mechanical issues. B) Just because it's an Intamin it will cost more. C) I would prefer Intamin, but I don't know what budget Six Flags is looking at.
  10. Am I the only one who it took about 5 minutes to find the ride in the concept art?
  11. It has been almost an hour since the announcement. Anybody hear anything? All signs are pointing to just a motorcycle at this point.
  12. I can't say for myself, a I was just 2 when the park closed. But my uncle remembers a lot about the park and always tells me stories. He said that the ride ran great over at CB, because of the lack of a lap bar. There was just a grab bar like Phoenix has now, and you would fly out of your seat on every hill. Also, for some seasons, they turned half of the train around to face backwards.
  13. Welcome to the forum! Any interesting info you have, please share! It would be much appreciated.
  14. According to RMC's website, the park always picks the color in the end. That kind of contradicts itself though, because red is the most expensive color paint, and it usually fades the quickest.
  15. Yeah.... no. As somebody who has greyed out on the majority of my rides on MF, "Millennium Forceless" is one of the dumbest nicknames for a coaster that I have ever heard of. In no way is MF "forceless", at all. Wikipedia claims that it pulls 4.5 Gs, which I would guess is a low estimate. The Batman clones supposedly pull 4.9 and Boomerangs supposedly pull 5.2 (that sounds like BS to me, though), I never grey out on those. I would assume MF actually pulls up to 5 Gs at the very least. I cant say for Boomerangs, but Invertigo models definitely have some high Gs for them. They're my most common "grey-out" rides. The Batman clones I can also see pulling almost 5. Some would even call them the most intense and forceful inverts. Believe it or not, a Boomerang can easily pump out at least 5gs, if not more. There was a concern that the coaster would not even be possible because of the loop after the second spike. If you ride a Boomerang in the back, you feel really pushed down while going up the loop backwards.
  16. That is if they even get one. This may not even involve a new attraction coming to the park. Even if it was a Motocoaster, I'm not too sure it would fit; plus why put a motorcycle based ride in a building?
  17. Give Darien Lake your old trains so we can actually operate more than one at a time on RoS!
  18. I think that an issue with log flumes is that it's hard to find that medium. Most log flumes that I've been on, you either get drenched or not wet at all; not even a mist. I'm not sure if that changed with the newer models, but the old Arrow and Hopkins flumes really fail to impress sometimes. Especially if the lines are long.
  19. If this is indeed what Cedar Point will receive, I'm not too sure about the choice of color. I like the color, but why go back to orange if Rougarou was just repainted that. There's many colors that haven't been used yet.
  20. It's also one thing to miss the ride, which is alright, but it's another to attack the park for removing it. The same people that are using the "thanksfornothing" hashtag are going to be the same ones floating around happily in the new water park. The whole "I'll never give you another dime" thing is also stupid, because they are just false threats to begin with.
  21. One word describes these people making these comments... Ungrateful Here is one of my favorites: Here's what makes me mad 1) Of course the park wants to make money. They're a business. Isn't that the goal of any business? If not then we mind as well be communist. 2) It isn't all about the money. Carowinds fans should be very grateful. A few years ago, this was just a "meh" park. Now CF announces huge capital investments to make this big and the fans don't care? Give me Fury if that is the case. I'll gladly take it and a water park expansion. Besides, it is costing the park money in demolition to tear it down. If they wanted to make more money they would have just kept it and not make any expansions. 3) So now let's not tear down any coasters because they are classics. RMC should stop turning crappy coasters into high rating thrill machines, and parks should keep all of their rides while trying to find a way to expand, even if they're landlocked. People don't get it. If they loved TR so much, then why weren't they riding it more? It seems highly unlikely that a park would remove a ride if it was extremely popular and queues were overflowing.
  22. I think the illusion of being enclosed and the free swinging of the cars makes it feel a little bit quicker than it really is. According to the fact sheet, it maxes out at 24 mph. In reality, that makes it slower than most Wild Mouses. Who knows, Kozmo's Kurves may hit that on a good day. Still a great ride either way. Speed isn't the point of this coaster.
  23. Typical for Hershey; I've never seen anything approaching good operations at that park. In my experience, they have consistently the worst operations of any major park I've been to. I'm not sure what the issue is; training, policies, I just don't know, but they're abysmal, and on a crowded day it really hurts an otherwise wonderful park. This really surprised me too. I've been to Hershey before, but after my visit earlier this month, I was like "What the hell?" I don't ever remember it being as bad back around when Fahrenheit first opened. Most of the operators were slowly taking their time and chatting and they seemed unhappy to be working. With my home park being Darien Lake, I think that the speed of the ops were around that level. The only difference being that Hershey was running multiple trains. It literally took the operators at Great Bear a minute of playing peek-a-boo around the last car to find each others all clear symbols.
  24. The Comet is also 69 years old and runs a lot better than some woodies 1/4 its age. I wish that Charlie Wood would have ended up installing it here at Fantasy Island, but we got stuck with an overrated knock off.
  25. Park chains are taking a break from Intamin. I don't think that we'll see another major project from them for at least a few years. Remember that their last big coaster in the US was Skyrush, and that was already 3 years ago. Until Intamin can iron out their issues, B&M has proven to build reliable, efficient rides. It is a shame, but I'm sure that they will make a comeback. They're still busy making a handful of coasters every year in Europe, and it seems like every year we've heard less and less about any major breakdowns from them.
