Oh I would say it has life left in it. The structure doesn't look shabby, except for a needed paint job. The trains are in great shape. Look like they have been updated in the last 5 years. When I was a kid riding it, back in the 80's they were different. They didn't have bucket seats and individual lap bars. In fact, I don't recall the seatbelts, at all. I remember having one single lap bar on a bench seat that had a small gap between the back and the bottom big enough to loose a pair of sunglasses that one might have been sitting on. That was me.

Rode it last yesterday. Not fun at all. Extremely rough and painful. At one point we bumped up and the lap bar went square into my tummy so hard (and I don't have a huge tummy) that I nearly threw up. My 11 yr old son was complaining the whole time, and normally he likes that ride. I do hope they fix it. I don't think it should go down. It's neat in a nostalgic kinda way (like Shock Wave), it just needs some TLC to make it enjoyable again. I bet ridership goes up if they do indeed make the repairs. I'd ride it more. I am not sure I can anymore after yesterday.

Yes, rode Freeze today! Short wait! It was great. Didn't ride it yesterday because of the crazy line on 1 train operation. 2 really sped things up. On the other hand, Texas Giant parked blue train and was only running the black train today. We got lucky and got a good spot in line, thinking it'd be 5-10 min, only it was closer to 20-30. I had a first timer with me and really wanted her to get to ride it. She was hands up all the way and loved it.

The airtime was just as good as before. I actually preferred the new lap bars over the old ones because they don't hurt my thighs when I catch air and am lifted. I do hope they chill out soon. My son has been riding that ride with no trouble since he was barely 8. He's almost 10, and suddenly he doesn't fit? He got off in tears. And that's after riding it twice yesterday! I do hope they chill soon so he can ride it again. It's his favorite ride and he's missed it a lot these past couple of months.

That would be great if they do keep them open for HIP. We didn't ride it today. Not while they are running Freeze on a 1 train operation. It takes way too long. We waited an hour last time. Batman, I won't ride out here unless the line is super short. They take way too long to get people on and off. I am amazed at how San Antonio goes so fast on theirs. Now if we can just get Shock Wave opened back up......

We went for another round just before they closed up at 8pm, and it was even better the second time. I don't know what it is about coasters that make them seem faster at night, but it seemed faster. It was so good that I needed a cigarette afterwards, and I don't smoke. Going back tomorrow with some friends to enjoy it some more. The part I found most amusing from our day (aside from the rides) was the 2 guys behind us on Titan. I could tell it was their first time by the way they screamed, " OH SH&T!!" going over the crest of the hill. They were screaming like ladies and dropping "S" bombs most of the way, then going through the last set of helixes one of them started screaming, "My cankles!!" over and over. I laughed so hard. We got stopped and I looked back and asked if that was their first time, and they said it was. I asked if they'd been on NTAG yet, and they weren't having any of that. It was pretty darn funny.

That's because they keep running it on one train. It was an hour wait for us, last time we were there and it was a light crowd that day. They probably won't run it on 2 trains the rest of the season. It's about to close up for HIP in about a month and a half and why bother getting the other one going when there are flash passes to be sold!

One reason I like SFFT, is they will actually respond to you if you ask a question. I commented on one of their fb posts and asked them if IRAT will be open during FF and HIP, and they responding to me confirming that yes, it WILL be open for FF and the rest of the year! So, hope that clarifies things.

I find it hard to believe a ride op would never notice if a person wasn't sitting back all the way, especially a person with the same proportions Esparza had and whose lap bar position was going to be a borderline pass/fail situation anyway. Anyway, I noticed the SFoT press release mentioned re-designed restraint pads from Gerstlauer. Did the Iron Rattler get new restraint pads as well? I thought they only added seat belts... I've been hearing it has been closed ever since Labor Day. Their website, FB, and Twitter accounts have no mention of the closure and are still promoting it for Fright Fest.

Well, if they go by that then they need to pack up Runaway Mine Train first. It is quite a bit older and the lines are only long on Spring Break, when you practically wait an hour to go to the bathroom (sarcasm). It's rough and not that fun. Not as rough as Judge Roy, but rough. And yes, I WILL be getting plenty of rides on it as soon as it opens. Was my favorite for YEARS! My last ride on it was a back to back run with my son right before they closed down for the night, back in May!

I just saw this aired on Fox 4 News. Family files wrongful death lawsuit over Texas Giant death Posted: Sep 10, 2013 4:08 PM CDT Updated: Sep 10, 2013 4:25 PM CDT By: Mark Norris - email The family of Rosa Ayala-Goana has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Six Flags over Texas after the mother fell to her death from the Texas Giant. Ayala-Goana, 52, fell 75 feet after being ejected from her seat while riding the Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington on July 19. Ayala-Goana was seated in the third row of the carts on the roller coaster and was thrown from her seat during the "steep descent from the first large hill of the track," according to the medical examiner's report after her death. Ayala-Goana fell 75 feet, higher than a seven story building, and struck a support metal beam. Her body then came to rest on the metal roof of a tunnel. An autopsy showed "extensive trauma of the torso" and the cause of death was "multiple traumatic injuries" due to her fall from the ride. The lawsuit states inspections by the park after the accident showed "various parts of the security systems on the ride were experiencing inconsistencies and intermittent failures." It also states Six Flags admitted it replaced a "limit switch" for the restraint in the "seat in the very car in which Rosa was riding because Six Flags found the switch to be defective." Witnesses said as people were coming back to the station, riders were crying and knew something had gone horribly wrong. A family who was in line behind Ayala-Goana said the seat restraint seemed to go down normally before the car left. They said when the train came back, the seat restraint was down. That family said Ayala-Goana's daughter and son-in-law were calling for help. They were screaming, "We need to go get my mom!" The Ayala-Goana family is seeking at least $1 million in damages from Six Flags. The Texas Giant has remained closed since the July accident. Before you get too upset, go check out their Facebook page. It posted on Friday, Sept. 6th, an advertisement for FF, including riding the "Epic Iron Rattler" after dark. Their Headline picture on the timeline is an advertisement for FF, with Iron Rattler in the background. Also, if you go look at their website, it isn't listed as "Temporarily closed," as has been when closed this past summer. It could have had a mechanical issue that just needed attention.
