  1. That could be true, like I posted several post back, LR has been running fine until the past two weeks.. BUT the past two weeks have also been cold and wet. It wouldn't surprise me if cold and wet is causing the issue. I know cold doesn't bother it, it was running fine a few Saturdays ago. When I left the park that night my thermometer in my car said 35.. it was still running right when I left so it was getting very close to the cut off temp but it was dry.. the rain might be causing issues. 2. Yeah usually the base price won't change during the season after the new pass prices are announced. but the promos will like bring a friend Tickets and promos for 4+ passes sometimes change and that's why they say price increases.. It's all marketing, but overall base price shouldn't change. And last year the 6 month payment option was around most of the season.. mine actually wasn't paid off until August for my pass and a month ago for a friend's I had purchased later in the season... I wish they would just go to a membership instead of payment plan.. I love my six flags membership and never having to worry about renewing. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  3. They always say that.. Jan 1 it'll be "extended" and then "extended" again.. I believe the prices are already a little higher for the 2017 season passes but don't fall for the prices go up trick.. it's just their marketing lingo... I mean technically speaking they will go up but only because you no longer get the Christmas season this year as an extra Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  4. Oh and I'm one of the number one advocates that the launch is not the issue.. I don't believe it is, I'm just saying worse case scenario. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  5. I'm sure they will get it worked out eventually.. I mean worse case scenario is bring in a new group of engineers and have them redesign the mechanics of the launch.. we live in a day and age were nothing is impossible.. The key is will Dollywood spend the money doing it? Of course that's worse case.. I feel Dollywood is close to getting it running and reliable on their own. Nov was a good month for it with very limited downtime.. I'm sure it'll be much better next year and if not, Dollywood will really need to take a long hard look into long-term plans for the coaster Best case scenario is that the cold weather is just messing with it.. I mean honestly, it ran fine in early December when it wasnt as cold.. It went down on a wet weekend and has been wet this weekend as well.. Wet and cold Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  6. It appeared to be at the bottom of the hill multiple times yesterday, but I may just not have noticed when I first saw the coaster. Did anyone actually see it rollback? The video just shows it sitting there. Maybe the launch want working at all and it never actually rolled back. Maybe something want letting it launch Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  7. If they had to manually push it back, I would be willing to bet money something tripped a safety sensor or the entire ride lost power. Most of the moving the train around is actually done by tires isn't it? And those guys pushed it way past the tires. So something in the computer or a sensor wasn't letting the train move at all? Or did it lose power? Or maybe the tires were slipping bc of the rain? Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  8. Knoxville is already below freezing, it was 63 here when I woke up Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  9. Has nothing closed yet due to the weather? There app still list everything open Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  10. It was closed several days ago as well and interesting enough, both were rainy days.. wonder if the rain messes with something on it at times? Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  11. Right now the app has them all closed CW (closed for weather) but right now where I am at its 28 ha-ha.. I'm sure Dollywood is probably setting at 25 right now (I'm in Knoxville) Tomorrow though looks like temps will get into the 40s Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  12. Actually this season, up until this week they haven't closed much. (I haven't been this week or this past weekend which have been our coldest nights) but I have been there about six nights the past few weeks and the only ride closed during my visits was Mystery Mine.. the coldest night according to the thermometer in the car (so give or take a few degree's) was right around 35 and the coasters were still running aside from Mystery Mine. Mystery Mine closed early right before dark as a TC (temporary) but finally changed to CD (For the Day) around 7:30 so it's closure might not have been due to temp. LR did have someone stationed at the door around 8 making sure the line didn't get to awful long but it never ended up closing when I left after the parade around 8:30 (watched the parade them used the bathroom under LR and it was still running before heading out) Keep in mind though, most nights I have been there have lingered around 40 degrees aside from the one night around 35 This past week we have had some very cold nights but I haven't been at the park those nights so no idea if things closed or not.. But like everyone has said, the weather stations are located in various places around the park.. The parking lot is in a valley so the thermometer on my car was probably reading slightly low when it said 35 in the parking lot and then said 34 in town. This has just been my experience with the cold weather this year and closures at Dollywood Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  13. They have done that for the past few years with lights, I know I mentioned it a few years ago. It seems like they "wow" at the front and then run out.. I know the old part of the park they like keeping it traditional with the white lights but the new part with wild eagle and fire chaser is dead when it comes to lights Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  14. Like I said, it was still running a few weeks ago around 35ish BUT they did have someone at the door limiting the amount of people who came in.. I am sure it was about to close.. it ended up not closing that night but when I left it was in the low 30s Like most people are saying 36 seems o be a good rule of thumb.. I have seen them leave the rides open to empty the lines (but not let anyone else back in) around mid 30s.. Unless the temps drop fast, I don't believe it'll be one of those "to cold everyone leave" type of closing.. they will try their best to let everyone in line ride Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  15. Here are the official rules taken from the City Ordinance Book.. but see this is all based on the parkway and all that good jazz.. again, not really for Dollywood (but Dollywood does have to apply for permission). Nothing in the book mentions any area outside of the parkway and my understanding is that the restrictions are for the parkway for views (I also confirmed from the same document that everything else other than attractions are limited to 80ft.. this includes hotels) Dollywood already has a lot of stuff much higher than 200ft as measured from the parkway, but like I said, the main reason for this rule is not to block views of the Mountains 712.3.2: Amusements: provided all amusements are less than two hundred (200) feet tall as measured from ground level at the Parkway (Highway 441). An emergency evacuation plan must be submitted with the site plan showing evacuations routes/areas and procedures for an emergency call and scenarios for rescue. Any amusement over 85 feet in height must have a fall zone or setback area equal to its height or 200 feet, whichever is less. The fall zone means an area free and clear of any other amusement, land use or structure. The fall zone may be included in the development’s set back area; however, parking lots may not be located in the fall zone. As a special exception, a waiver may be approved for the one amusement over eighty-five (85) feet in height subject to the owner/operator submitting calculations and documentation from licensed professional engineers which confirm the structure will meet or exceed the designated requirements for the region and that the amusement meets ASTM F24, DIN or equivalent requirements. Fall zones must be noted on the site plan. No such waivers are permitted for any development that proposes to have more than one amusement over eight-five (85) feet in height. Each amusement over the one waiver permitted must have a fall zone setback of one foot in setback area for every one foot in height for each amusement. The fall zone must be an area free and clear of any other amusement, land use, structure, road, or parking area. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  16. What do you mean Dollywood has a height restriction? I don't think Dollywood actually has a height restriction per say but the area has one on hotels and attractions downtown ON THE PARKWAY.. it can be waived and is usually waived for places like Dollywood. I thought the restriction was lower than 200ft though.. actually, I'm pretty sure it is 80ft actually for buildings and stuff. I was at a town meeting one time (I have to go for the Boy Scouts sometimes) and this came up.. it's basically so no one comes in and builds a giant tall towering resort and blocking views of the Mountains.. it's not really a hard limit but one you have to obtain special permission to get around. They mentioned Dollywood at the meeting I was at and said it would be waived for most of the projects they plan unless it's a hotel some other tall building So it's not like some parks that have limits because of Airports being close or something.. it's just a city ordinance Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  17. Officially I believe it's 36, but they will close at higher temps is icing is likely, or it's really slow. Lubrication is another issue and it's possible that some rides need higher temps. Oddly they don't list that on their site, at least that I've found. SDC has an FAQ that details exactly, helps with planning. Their stuff goes down anywhere from 32 to 42 degrees, so I would expect Dollywood would do the same. In my experience, B&Ms tend to have the highest temperature guidelines, so that plus its location, I'd say Wild Eagle will be first to shut down. Wild eagle is one of the last to Shut Down during my experience there when they close. I have ridden it almost an hour after Tennessee Tornado and Mystery Mine closes for cold weather.. I have ridden it down in the mid to low 30s Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  18. Officially I believe it's 36, but they will close at higher temps is icing is likely, or it's really slow. Lubrication is another issue and it's possible that some rides need higher temps. I was there a few weeks ago and it got down to 35.. only ride that closed was Mystery Mine. 35 was the reading of my car thermometer so give or take a few degree's. MM actually closed when it was slightly over 40 degrees but closed at first as a Temporary Closure according to the app.. but never opened back up.. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  19. I went up Friday afternoon.. Business as usual on the strip, haven't been up in the mountains yet. It was actually fairly crowded when I was up there. Good to hear. was worried people would be slow to return. This time of year it gets fairly slow in Gatlinburg anyways.. most stores are about to go to their winter hours (meaning a lot will close at 6).. Some will close all together for "renovation" (I feel some just say that to save labor money by not opening at all in the winter and just pay rent) So for a Friday afternoon all seemed normal crowds wise.. wish I could have stayed later or went on Saturday when it's normally more crowded and get a better idea if crowds are lighter or not. 21. Also looks like all of this might of been started just by goofing off Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  22. Yeah, as expected, feels like an awful lot of people around here suddenly passed the bar overnight. I don't believe anyone has said anything about how things will play out like they just passed the bar.. it looks like most people, myself included, are just giving their opinion on the subject Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  23. That's what I'm saying, should be charged with both making it harder for them to get out of prison in the future on parole or something Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  24. Arson is purposefully set fires. Accidents are unintentional. Exactly, so if they are calling it Arson, I believe an accident is out of the question.. Also, a few local reports from a week or so ago said they had found the fuel cans that helped start the fire (no idea how true this is or not).. But the fire was said to start around Chimney Tops trail.. young kids shouldn't be on that trail alone so if there weren't any parents around, these kids are probably high school.. if parents were around, there is no excuse either. Multiple warnings, even signs going in and out of the park, and even signs on the interstate warned about the burn ban.. if it was younger kids who found their parents matches while they were gone (playing games like flick match that I see kids at scout camp play all the time), it's a different story but I don't believe that is the case knowing the area and the rumors on the news about fuel cans being found.. Eitherway, any idea how old the kids are? I feel if they are smart enough to start a fire, even as a joke, they know the consequences.. I feel they should be held 100% liable for not only Arson, but murder and even attempted murder. I know this saying "kids will be kids" but if they are high school age, or even late middle school, they should know better.. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
  25. So I got to see the parade this weekend, and while it was much better than previous years I wasn't really impressed.. Saying it cost 2.5 million, I just assumed it would have been much larger, with larger floats and more vibrant floats.. everything just seemed so small! I can't imagine how that cost 2.5 million dollars.. Anyways, it was neat to watch once but nothing compared to large parades at other parks.. I know Dollywood has limited space and that might be why the floats are small.. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
