  1. I'm still holding out hope for a rmc coaster.
  2. I guess it is possible they just made the final decision on what they want to build for 2017 and when they looked at the schedule knew they needed to get started very very soon. Though that could be me being overly optimistic of something really cool.
  3. Definitely very quick to close it down. I would have expected them to give at least a few weeks notice in case people wanted to ride it one more time.
  4. Ajc is saying it will close at the end of today so that makes me think it isn't justice league. No need to close it in June to put justice league in. I'm still holding out hope for a coaster (hopefully RMC)
  5. It does sound like the justice league ride and while that is supposed to be a good ride I was hoping for something bigger for the 50th. However, it seems odd to announce this so early if it is just going to be justice league. Announcing this early just sounds like it is something big that they need to get started on soon. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. The telling thing will be when it officially closes. If it closes almost immediately I have doubts on it being justice league.
  6. You also have to look at competition in the areas as well. Stone Mountain which is more on the nature side then the attraction side but has some attractions has done a lot the past few years in terms of doing a great Christmas event in addition to "snow mountain" for tubing. So there may be an element of "if they can do something in the winter, why can't we?" as well. Even beyond Stone Mountain, lots of places around Atlanta do cool holiday events and so there is no reason for Six Flags not to try to cash in on that too. Now the question I have in that Fright Fest ends at end of October and this is starting toward end of November. Are they going to stay open on weekend during that time or just shut down for the weeks between end of fright fest and start of holiday in the park? I seems it would be better to just stay open even while redecorating but with six flags you never know.
  7. SFOG has done that for fright fest in the past - buy a pass during FF and get it for the next year so I would expect they would do the same thing for the christmas event. Only makes sense. Get people locked in early.
  8. And they also just announced on facebook with their video that 2014 season passes will include holiday in the park.
  9. ANNOUNCEMENT: Six Flags Holiday In The Park festival is coming to SFOG starting on November 22! More than one million LED lights, beautiful Christmas trees and state-of-the-art decor will create the perfect magical atmosphere this holiday season!!
  10. I expect we are going to see something similar to the disaster that EA made with their new Dungeon Keeper game. A game where it takes FOREVER to actually do anything and a game that is almost unplayable as it is out of the box.. oh, unless you pay real money to speed things up and actually make the game semi-playable.
  11. I went Saturday and things were overall mixed. To start with, they didn't advertise well the new changes for the season pass. I got there early to go to season pass processing like normal but when i got there they were directly people for season passes to just go to the date. They had people standing out there telling people this but no signs. A Sign would have helped a lot. So was there in line wondering how this all was going to work. Finally they let us in and the initial scan the voucher, do you fingerprint, get your card went very smooth and then they sent us to a table to sign the card. Now to get dining pass and parking added you then had to go back to season pass processing but from the door inside the park. So went there and nobody was there. There were just the old computers from last year to scan your stuff when you came in and that did nothing. Took about 10 minutes before somebody came in to help add stuff to cards. Then later on in the day when I tried my dining pass they hadn't added it on properly and I had to go back to get it done again. Then when I tried to register my season pass online last night it says the last name and number don't match. So initial getting people into the park was quick, but the rest of it needs improvement. I got there at opening and lines were real short at that point so got to hit quite a few costers real quick. Dare Devil Dive was down. The rest went mostly ok. They had an issue with one train on Batman and on Superman the operators were having issues with getting the restaints down so the computer would recognize them properly but that is all kinda to be expected on day 1. I would up leaving around 2 when lines started to get long. Before the park opened, the presdent came out and made some comments and he did say Hurricane Harbor would open Memorial Day and also said there was going to be a "zero g" water slide in the park. First I had heard of that personally but sounds very interesting. I was one of the people who was concerned on what hurricane harbor would mean to white water but after looking at the space from from of the rides, I'm not anymore. The space really isn't all that big. The vast majority of the land is being used for the wave pool with only a little bit of area around it for a few slides. There just isn't the land to have near the variety of slides and stuff like they have at white water. This will be a nice addition to the main six flags park, but not really competition to white water. If you want to spend the whole day at the water park, white water is still going to be the better choice. All in all, not too bad for opening day. They meed to work on the season pass process some but it is a new system so I'm sure they'll get it worked out.
  12. That would be my guess. This doesn't sound good for white water.
  13. I agree as well. I'm not sure how a bigger waterpark at SFOG helps them because I don't see it selling more season tickets then they currently sell and you normally want an expansion to sell more tickets. If anything, it could reduce season ticket sales (or combo passes) to whitewater because people will think they don't need to add whitewater when SFOG has a decent park itself. You have SF and WW with separate gate fees so merging them into one place with a single gate fee just doesn't make sense or doing anything that could hurt the gate fees at the second location. That being said, I would love to see a water coaster like Master Blaster, but I think Six Flags as a whole only has one of those. However, I think WW would be the better location for the water coaster then SFOG.
  14. I think I had read that Gertlauer was supposed to be onsite today to check things out as well. I wonder if that is what six flags is calling the "external investigation" because technically it is external to six flags itself.
  15. Agreed. That is why I'm thinking the end result is going to be more stringent checking of riders and/or adjustments to the sensors making them more strict.
  16. That is my understanding - that the bar has to be at a certain angle before the green light will go on. Assuming that is the case (which I believe it is), we are really down to two main possibilities here 1) The lap bar was not on her legs and thigs as it should be and the ride was allowed to leave - operator error 2) The minimum angle of the far is too high and should be lowered - design type error, but should be an easy fix since it is most likely a software issue and I guess there is a third as well which is that if the angle is a software variable, that somewhere during maintenance that value was not set properly on that car. That is probably unlikely since that wouldn't be something that should be changed ever so shouldn't be anywhere easily accessible and woudl really require the manufacterer to change. It will be interesting to see what the determination is on what happened here.
  17. I'd be shocked if seatbelts were not added at this point. I don't really know how the ride operates, but from what I've read it sounds like there's no way the train would have been dispatched if the woman didn't have a green light. So the way I see it, whether the restraint popped open, or she just slipped out from under it, I wouldn't put the woman, or the operators at fault for this at all. It would be either a mechanical failure or just a flaw in the system. In comparison, the Ride of Steel accident a couple years ago is almost definitely a case of operator/rider error. Of course we'll have to wait and see what the investigation turns up as well. Unfortunately accident's happen, but hopefully everyone can learn from it and make things safer. If the speculation is right about what happened I think that is the most likely outcome because it accomplishes two things 1) If you make them tight you can screen out people who shouldn't be riding 2) Even if it doesn't really help, the addition of the seatbelt will make the GP feel better about getting on the ride.
  18. I understand your point, but the bottom line is they HAVE to do one of these two things 1) Change restraints so that somebody with her body type can ride safely 2) Change procedures and/or sensors so somebody with her body type is not allowed to ride. Which way they go we'll just have to wait and see. They could do like Cedar Point and make the restraints much less forgiving
  19. But the restraints don't click so the whole story that everybody is feeding off of that she didn't feel secure is suspect.
  20. As if the point didn't need to be proven on how much misinformation is out there, I went on tritter just now. Saw 2 different comments saying somebody fell off iron rattler at fiesta texas and my favorite was a tweet that went "It is called texas giant, but it isn't actually in texas" ugh...
  21. Media these days rarely does their own reporting but takes things mentioned elsewhere and repeats them. You are right they we likely won't know much until the report comes out. I am sure all Six Flags employees are under orders by corporate and possibly the police too not to talk to anybody and at this point I doubt any passengers want to talk either - most probably just want to forget and they may have been told by police not to talk too so they can control the information and try to stop rumors like this clicking thing from getting out. I don't think anybody is going to be talking under the investigation is done. Doesn't really help anybody involved.
  22. The situation in the station had to be surreal especially for the probably teenagers running the ride. I would assume after they realized what happened they would have to get everybody out of the train they were loading to get the previous train in the station ASAP to get those people off which certainly would have had confused people... or even worse they send the next train off before they realized what happened on the last one. If those were teenagers running the ride, they are likely going to need some counseling regardless of if they are at fault or not along with probably just about anybody on that train. Sad situation but I would expect six flags is doing everything they can to help. Hopefully they will be able to quickly determine the cause and make whatever adjustments are needed. I expect we may see seat belts required on all rides wether completely needed or not as an extra percaution and if she was overweight possibly a policy change on larger passengers. I'm not implying either was the cause or could have prevented it, but policy changes made after something goes wrong doesn't have to be related to the cause and seat belts in paticular I see being done just to make the general public feel better. We'll see though. I'm interested to see what they determine to be the cause.
  23. What could you see from the top of the ride? Practically everything at the park? Easily everything in the park as well as the atlanta skyline. Was hard to make out a lot of the distant stuf because of how quickly the ride was spinning. The close stuff like the park looked great though. Really great views.
  24. Went to the media day today through macc and had a great time. Skyscremer loks intimidating but is really a great ride and not near as bad as it looks. This is going to be a great addition to the park. They did a thing at media day about pigs flying and even had a bunch of people ride dressed as pigs which was kinda cute. All in all it was a good time and an awesome new ride.
  25. Nope, but I did just get a new attraction survey from them. Not sure I can comment on the questions they were asking, but in my comments I suggested they add an RMC coaster. With the amazing work it looks like RMC is doing, would love to see something from them at SFoG.
