Kolmården Discussion Thread

This park is just pure awesome! I don't think I've ever heard of a park's management team being this considerate. Great job Kolmarden and wish you guys all the best in the future! -
M&D Scotland's Tsunami derails
gerstlaueringvar replied to UKCoasterFan's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's very lucky that the center of gravity of the train is so high up that the wheels and chassis landed first. I guess there will be some major concussions but at least the riders will be more likely to keep their legs. -
Classification isn't that important IMO. Real innovative designs often blur the line between different classifications and make people discuss where they fit into. Is RMC wood or steel? Is Kaernan a hyper? Is Wonder Mountain's Guardian a coaster or a dark ride? Is Gerstlauer's vertical lift a new category of lifting mechanism? Is the 153 degrees turn on Outlaw Run an inversion? Is American Eagle a racing coaster or dueling coaster? Who cares?

M&D Scotland's Tsunami derails

This is really sad, hope they can find out what really lead to the accident. Let's stop blaming the manufacturer for now, it can be poor maintenance, construction etc that lead to the accident. Yes Pinfari never made anything not sketchy but this is their first major accident (?) Hope all the injured riders will recover well. -
Caught up on what's been going on at Epcot finally. Soarin'-Gald the old pre show video and the queue line stayed! The preshow video in Shanghai is very nice but I still prefer the old one because makes more sense. Love the hidden Mickey at the end with Spaceship earth! I'm so jealous Epcot has a third theater because Shanghai Disney's Soarin' line moves painfully slow and DCA isn't that busy anyway. Frozen- Wow this is a great dark ride! Would love to see it appearing around the world! Disney never disappoints at dark rides! SDR Exhibition-God this really made me miss Shanghai Disneyland!

Leg day: find a coaster with high G and OTSR, stand up coasters are the best. Leave a click or two on the restraint and try to lift up your body with your legs during the ride. Kumba and Riddler's Revenge gave me some of the best leg work outs. Think about it I was squading 700+ pounds! Arms day: raise your arms parallel to the track, and keep them that way when you marathon a coaster. Good for shoulders and biceps. Abs, back and sides: do a wooden coaster with strong lateral and try your best bending your upper body against the direction of the lateral force. Neck: SLC

Definitely! 1. The Adventure Trail is good for people of all ages. 2. See the two pictures below, the traditional Vekoma Motorbike coaster has lap restraint attached to the handle bar. When you pull the handlebar towards you, the back restraint lowers towards your upper back. And there is a tilted box at each sides of the bike for you to put your feet in. On the newly designed TRON vehicles, the back restraint and handle bar combo is the same but the shin restraint+box combo is replaced by a moveable shin guard that has tall sides and a small metal bar that closes to the back of your knees as you pull down the handlebar. The connecting part between two cars are flat walkways so you can walk around the car to access the Lightcycle at the other side of the train. Also the bikes are higher off the track than the traditional design, so the walkway at the beginning and end can cover up parts of the track to make you feel like you're on a race track rather than a roller coaster track. This new design made the loading and unloading so much faster than the original design. I think I'll get more spinning this way. Photo from RCDB

Smoothest Coaster You've Ridden?

TRON Lightcycle Power Run. Vekoma did an incredible job there. -
^There are a lot of cast members from Hong Kong, US and some from Europe I would assume. They are in Shanghai to make sure grand opening goes smoothly and continue training the local cast members because the park is still working out the bugs caused by the rushed opening. From what I see, a lot of the local CMs are still not trained enough to handle the scenes caused by ridiculous guests so basically the CM from HK and US were handling the situations. It is kind of chaotic because of all the different languages flying around but that's the best they can do honestly. I noticed a CM quality decline at HK Disney earlier and now I know all the good ones were in Shanghai. And Shanghainese is basically Mandarin with an accent, there's only two major languages in China: Mandarin and Cantonese (Hong Kong and Canton area)
