  1. ^So what do they do for those people who lost 3+ hours in the park? Say sorry as they get off..? Or do they have some sort of policy? I mean, I may be a small percentage who feels this way but I would be furious if I was stuck on a ride for such a long time and the park did nothing to make it up to me and my fellow riders. Maybe not something as extreme as fast passes for the rest of the day... Or bounce back tickets because some people won't be able to make it out to the park after that trip... Especially people from out of state. But something...
  2. For fun and out of sheer boredom, why not look at a color comparison, side by side to see the similarity of the colors... Using the eyedropper tool - here are the different colors of each coaster based on the pictures shown What catches my attention on the Valravn track is the silver stripe on the bottom of the spine. I feel like this can be a key distinguishing feature for it and it's neighbor to the north east. And here is a quick and lousy side by side of the colors on a black background This was the boredom part I was talking about. But from this crappy cartoon failure, the supports and that silver stripe really do manage to differentiate both coasters from one another. Oh, and I'm sure the 8 across cars in rows of 3 may help as well All in good fun here. I don't really care what the colors are... Personally I'm excited to see what the logo is going to be - because I'm a nerd by definition. I love that kind of thing... And the Stats of the coaster itself. Oh, and an announcement date would also be nice...
  3. ^ In all honesty, the only thing I really "like" about Twister is the little plaza in front of it. Of course, I'm not sure if it's the same as it was the last time I was really near the ride and paying attention to it... But I loved the scenery in front of the ride - the waterfall and the other fountains. I also enjoyed the big rock with the ride's name on it, It looked somewhat professional. Maybe it still does, Like I said, I dont usually focus on that part of the park anymore. And it seems to be a favorite spot for smokers to do their thing... Is that plaza a smoking area now? Or is that just a typical case of people being arrogant?
  4. ^ For YEARS my text tone was "Keep arms down, head back and hold on!" It was always a great way to remember the awesomeness of Cedar Point and Dragster in every day life! EDIT: just for fun. Some Tony posts! Maybe he can tell us about the World's Largest Pumpkin Patch Valpumpkin soon! This I just thought was hysterical
  5. For all you "Pics or it didn't happen" peeps out there: Courtesy of CP Rundown's Facebook page
  6. ^^ I have to agree about that. Honestly its a worse dead end than the ROS plaza. They do have a nice plot of land that could fit a flat ride between Twister and the campground entrance and maybe figure out a way to include the motocoaster area in the park more? I don't know, to me the whole campground entrance needs to get looked into. its one of the most confusing parts of the park. Not to mention the bridge over tin lizzy's is closed off. and for the most part the gate by the Motocoaster exit is closed. it's almost not even worth it to go into that entire section of the park. Honestly when I went last week, we stopped by the motocoaster, I pointed out the plot of land that was empty, we ran into people "secretly" smoking back there - which is another huge problem in the park - and we went back the other way towards boomerang and ROS. Not to mention Twister is either down or just, not running as it used to. All of the action in the park is from the viper area, down to the Mind Eraser dead end, and then through the midway to the ROS and the laser stage. most people really dont care all that much to even consider going near twister. Because in all seriousness, all that's near it is an up-charge go kart track and a packed queue for the antique cars...
  7. I was just hovering around the B&M website and I noticed a few things about the different dive coasters they have shown. Oblivion seats 8 across, the arrangement CP wants. But it only has 2 cars, AND it has a floor... Cost: 12 Million GBP Sheikra's track spine seems to be more wide than it is thick - like the ones at the plant. it also seats 8 across, but it has 3 cars and is floorless - Cost: 13.5 Million. Length of over 3,000 feet. This makes me think M wont be too far off... but it is 10 years old... Griffon was 15,6 million, but its 10 across. I feel like that could possibly be why it has larger track than it's coaster counterparts and possibly also why it cost more. Larger trains create more stress. so I feel like unless CP adds a 4th car or something bizzare, maybe again, 15 Million wont be too far off. I have Krake here to show how the spine changes thickness. If you look by the bottom of the immelman its clearly thicker than by the coaster train in this image. So I'd say spine thickness isnt always a 100% accurate determinate of coaster type - just for fun - this one cost 12 million euros and is 1,562 feet long. Just a random little 6 seat wide dive machine to show that the track isnt always HUGE. This coaster opened up this year - its 1,857 feet long, and like krake, it was 12 millon Euros to build So, price wise, as I mentioned a few times, maybe $15M isn't too far off at all... We've all been comparing it to Griffon, but in all honesty, griffon has 6 more seats per train than Valravn would have, That adds weight which I'm sure increases stress and therefore requires a thicker spine. The last dive machine to be built cost $13,052,220.00 according to a currency converter. yes it is a 6 per row version, and it is shorter, but in the end, as someone else mentioned, maybe $15M isn't the final price tag either. Sorry it's late, but I wanted to get my two cents in before the actual ride is announced. If it even is a Dive Machine.
  8. [youtu_be] [/youtu_be] Figured I'd also post this. I love the show - as I may have mentioned. So I record it on my ventures out to the park. The laser projections sometimes dont cooperate but it still looks cool! Enjoy!
  9. I was also in the park yesterday and I have to agree on how amazing the dispatch efficiency was. I have a few things to note and then a question or two.. Ahead of time - I apologize for how long it is, I wanted to get as much detail as I could into this (unfortunately) pictureless TR Notes: --The parks gates were opened at around 10, but at the front of the fountain there was a string closing off the rest of the park. When it dropped, it was almost like a mini Cedar Point style "running of the bulls" to the ride of steel. Some folks didnt get the memo however and they got into Predator's line by mistake... --Ride of Steel had CRAZY amounts of airtime in the front of the train compared to the rear. My personal experience with the ride has usually been the opposite though so I found that interesting. Also worth noting a ride in the front of the train is MUCH less shaky than the back. Which I found odd on an Intamin coaster. Usually its pretty smooth throughout... -- Viper was running absolutely amazingly yesterday! Even during the rain! I was shocked at how smooth it was. We sat in the back seat, front seat and second last car by the time the night was over. My personal note was that the back was smoother and more comfortable. Maybe it's just me though... VERY minimal head banging! -- Predator - Didn't even consider it. Not worth the headache... -- Boomerang - Though yes, the catch car was moving really slowly... It was almost like it made the ride more suspenseful for the GP and honestly for me as well. The entire way up I was just listening for the station brakes to release, but everyone else on the ride was going insane waiting to get to the top of the hill. They all seemed to really enjoy it. We sat in the 4th car and I had No head banging issues which I was shocked about. Again, considering it had rained, and also that its a Vekoma. It was a pleasant surprise. -- Motocoaster is a fun little ride. When we went on it was a small-er child's first time and he was freaking out which was... interesting (I only say that because his outbursts were "GET ME OFF OF THIS THING" and "OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO DIE") But it was so much more satisfying to see that same little kid with a huge smile on his face saying it was his favorite ride in the park as he got off! I'm glad his parents had him still ride the coaster. Aside from that though - my only comment on the coaster is that the lights are in need of replacement. Here's a joke - How many ride mechanics does it take to screw in a light bulb? According to enthusiasts, one, but s/he should have taken care of it MONTHS ago GAHHH THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR WHY THEY AREN'T FIXED AND THERE AREN'T 5 TRAINS ON EACH COASTER IN THE PARK! - reference for that joke? THIS THREAD! (Just a joke - don't take it seriously please - Thinking of getting offended? Please check the TPR disclaimer at the bottom of the home page!) Redhawk - Such an awesome ride. I think my favorite thing involving it is that you can ride slingshot half off after you've ridden the redhawk. I wonder if its the same the other way around? Still, AWESOME deal! If we would've went on Slingshot it would've only been $10 per person! That's a steal!! -- Mind Eraser - IMPORTANT - The coaster itself, was a bit of a head banger as I expected. It was raining - as I've probably said 50 times already. And it is an SLC so what else do you expect... Nevertheless I loved it. The nice shiny supports (that are painted) look stunning! It's gonna look beautiful when it's done! And as for something us coaster enthusiasts have been talking about... and i regret not taking a picture... but I saw some pallets down by the storage track's supports... and on those pallets were MInd Eraser train parts. don't get too excited though, it seemed to be just the main wheel/body of the train, no fiberglass and no seats to be seen. Maybe Doug has some info on it? That would be awesome to hear about! --Haymaker - I'm only mentioning this because while in line, some kid cut his finger, like a bad-ish paper cut sized "wound" - and when he got off his mom freaked out and the ride operator had to call first aid and then shut down the ride so they could see what actually happened. A lot of people waiting in line were very angry, I was upset but at the same time, protocol is protocol -- Boardwalk - The registers were moved into the little restaurant windows instead of out before the seating area Grocery Store style. I feel like it makes much more sense for people to pay for their food when they get it versus on their way to the seating area. Because then we're on the honor system in my opinion and I know for a fact some people aren't honest. But again, that's just my opinion. My issue today was I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger combo, which isn't that hard to make. But this kid who was clearly not trained or just didn't care decided he was going to take over making all the food and not let employees do their jobs. he took 15 minutes to prepare a burger and when he tried to give it to me I had to tell him it was BACON - which normally isn't a huge deal but when you pay so much extra - you want to get what you paid for AND He did the SAME THING to the guy before me!!! Seriously! After I told him that, he decided to just give that to the people behind me, then proceed to finish filling their order and he literally took 10 minutes to put some fries into some trays and get two hot dogs in buns. Finally the seemingly team leader got him to cut his crap and leave the station, he apologized to me for the inconvenience and another employee hopped right in, made my food in under 3 minutes and actually gave me double the fries as a way to right the wrong of his coworker. Thank god for GOOD EMPLOYEES! Not to mention sir slacks-a-lot seemed to be sniffly so he was constantly wiping his nose and scratching at it. Quite disgusting. The food the other employee made though seemed to at least be efficient and SANITARY. It's a shame how one person can ruin something like that so quickly... -- Rolling Thunder -- was indeed testing for the mid portion of the day. in the morning before the park opened the train was at the top of the loop and throughout the first half of the day you would catch glimpses of the train at the top, and at the bottom, but you never really caught it moving until around 7 PM when they OPENED THE RIDE for about an hour or so. because as irony has it, the second I got on the ride, it broke down. More or less, the train wouldn't allow for a gain in speed and the ride wouldn't go higher than about half way... and we were asked to leave the train and then they closed the ride yet again. Which was a shame I have to admit. At Cedar Point, if a ride goes down they let you go back into the queue at least and then say you're welcome to wait if you'd like. But here, before they even said they would just close it for the night, the operator made everyone leave. I was upset by it. and also upset by the fact that 3 jerks skipped in front of about 3/4 of the line because their friends wouldn't do the right thing and go wait with them, and even though a ride operator was looking RIGHT at them when they did it, she didn't say anything to them. It's against the policy and I'm positive she knew that but she did nothing. The least she could have done is yelled at them or ask them to leave the line. It ticked me and everyone else behind them off and after that they had an entire line of people complaining about their arrogance. Not the best reputation to have on for new ride in a seemingly struggling park.. -- Ignite the Night - I loved it in 2013 when it first debuted, but was underwhelmed by the show in 2014. It was very repetitive and seemed to me that the park was giving up.. the laser show has been a childhood favorite though so I was really hoping it wouldn't continue on that path to self destruction... this year I was pleasantly surprised to see NEW content - minus the rocket ship thing, "if you're happy and you know it" and the usual ending - but hey, I like the ending - It was energetic, had some fun songs for kids, and it had the weirdly cool "TMNC" song that I shall not ruin for those who haven't seen the show yet. The lasers seemed to have been updated, last year they seemed out of sync, shaky, and dim...also, the regular projector seemed to be much brighter, and some of the laser projector effects were absolutely stunning compared to Laser Show's past... like the wind in "Let it Go" and the ending of "Break Free", they were awesome! All in all the show was great and I'm glad they saved it after last year.. because come on, two years is WAY too soon for a show to die! As for my questions.. I only have 3 1) When did the paddle boat/kayak area get water bikes? They looked pretty cool! 2) Since there is now finally train #2 PARTS, on site for Mind Eraser, is there any guess to when they will actually be re-assembled and installed? 3) Last year the park gave out little coupon booklets as you left the park, and a friend of mine also got them a little over a week before I went. Does Darien only give those out on certain nights? Or do you stop as the masses start to trickle down? Because we were close to the end but we definitely were not the last people out of the park... They had $19.99 "Bounce Back" tickets on them! What a great deal that would've been! As you can tell, I did have a fantastic time in the park - I thank the rain for the short lines, and the few spots of clear skies and 80 degree weather for dry grass during ignite the night. It was good to see parts for a second train by one of the coasters, and I'm sure when the park is busier it can become an issue that some rides don't have all applicable trains on them... but hopefully seeing one with parts by it is a sign that those second trains are on their ways back... Seriously, I think for the most part, the hate this park receives on this thread isn't needed. Go out and visit the park on a slower day and see what it actually has to offer. A "smooth" boomerang, an AWESOME hyper coaster, A smooth Arrow-huss coaster, and a lot of other fun things to enjoy while you're there. Plus they upgraded their shirts to look more Cedar Fair esque, I walked into the emporium and for a split second thought Darien Lake was secretly bought by them. My trip rating? After the jerk-faces in line at Rolling Thunder and the poor service from the one employee, I give the day a 9/10 rating. I will most certainly be riding again - Even if rain is involved! Thank you for a fantastic day Darien!
  10. ^ I don't think it really matters what other parks do. Owned by Cedar Fair or not. Valleyfair isn't in the same position at Cedar Point is with how many coasters they have. Cedar Point is almost battling when it comes to coaster count but they're not making it their top priority. If they can add something that can technically be considered a roller coaster, then power to them! It really isn't a big issue. In the end all it really comes down to is personal preference. Cedar Point can say pipe scream is a coaster all they want and I'll agree but at the same time I wont personally count it as a credit. and with only 34, That says a lot, I'm coaster credit DESPERATE but I'm not THAT desperate. (Coaster and credit aren't the same thing in my opinion - like Rougarou and Mantis - some people count them as 2 separate credits even if its just one coaster in the end) And think about it from their perspective. As its been mentioned before many many times on this thread alone, Enthusiasts are the minority. Do you really think the average park goer is going to look at pipe scream and get angry that it's called a coaster by Cedar Point? They won't give a crap! And to be frank, how stupid would it make CP look if last year they claimed Pipe Scream to be a Family rollercoaster and thrill ride all in one to all of us and then the next year they change their minds. Not to rant or anything (even though I clearly just did...) - but IT DOES NOT MATTER what any of us think. If they want to call it a coaster, they are going to call it a coaster. Its up to them. Unless one of us wants to work our way up to manager status at the park and hold a press conference claiming that our personal feelings dictate Pipe scream as nothing but a flat ride... then I think everyone needs to just get over it, accept it, or forget about it. In conclusion - it is a thread and everyone is entitled to their own opinions but in my OPINION, people getting mad at a park over this? Not necessary, and quite frankly (again), its not worth getting angry over something like that. Its to please the General Public. Not like they went all Magic Mountain and opened up, what? 2 or 3 more kiddy coasters just to one-up their competition. Come on guys and gals, its a ride that adds to the parks already vast collection. Cant we just enjoy it?
  11. ^ Have any of the super loops been inspected yet that anyone knows of?
  12. Really, guys? Would it kill you to type two more letters? Sorry, I only called it that because other people seemed to be doing the same - I've also seen Millie but I personally dont like that alteration of the awesomeness that is the Millennium Force. Only Rougarou from now on, I promise.
  13. ...Sarcasm doesnt seem to work very well with you, @DarienLaker... We need to have some sort of counter on this thread that shows how many times you mention anything to do with Barracuda Bay though, That would definitely give me a good chuckle every time I get on this thread.
  14. So how is the whole Larson Superloop situation working out...? And also, when do WE get OUR timeline of rollercoasters announcing the new Aquatrax named Barracuda Bay's Revenge?
  15. ^^ I'll admit, when I saw that posted on facebook I laughed an audible laugh and immediately came to TPR to see people's response. I think it's hysterical that they did it but I find it so much funnier that people take offense to it. My only thing about them adding Pipe Scream is now they ONLY have Rougie left... And they've been putting up 2 tiles at a time... so does that mean they're gonna break the pattern? or is there going to be a teaser tile for "MAYFLY: THE CP DIVE MACHINE EXPERIENCE" next to the Rougarou tile? I wonder....... By the way - Went to the park last week - as always it was a great time. I actually managed to get on 16 of the 17 coasters at the park (Yes I was counting Pipe Scream in that statement). The only reason I didn't get on them all is because they closed Iron Dragon for Luminosity RIGHT before I got to it! But we did stay and watch the show which was quite awesome. Definitely beats "Ignite the Night" over at my home park Darien Lake... It went like this -- Gatekeeper, Millennium, Rougarou, Maverick, SkyHawk 3x with no wait, Gemini, Dragster, Blue Streak, Maxair, Twister, Corkscrew, Power Tower, Raptor, Magnum, Pipe Scream, Wilderness Run, Woodstock Express, Mean Streak and Mine Ride followed by the disappointment of a closed Iron Dragon and ending the night with Luminosity as it started to lightly drizzle. They Canceled the dance party... Still a great time! My only regret is ending the night with Mine Ride...
  16. anyone know why there's a random private video in the Cedar Point Ride POVs playlist on youtube? I think its interesting that its also the 18th video. But I feel like its been there for more than a year, So I doubt the number has any importance
  17. A little off topic, but how long should one visiting on say... the 8th of July... expect the lines of rougarou to be..? Especially if it's available for early entry which I haven't checked on yet but in all honesty when we went last year, we hit Maverick 3 times, Millennium twice and made it to dragster right as the park opened and got on within 10 minutes so if we must run to Rougarou instead it wouldn't be an issue.
  18. ... am I the only one who finds it weird that they didn't use the actual Iron Dragon logo? Every other tile has their respective logo... Iron Dragon's looks like the graphics guy/gal tinkered with word art a little bit. Maybe its just my OCD talking but it's bugging me ever so slightly as well..
  19. ^^ Did it look much different from these? (Taken July 2014)
  20. I'm taking a trip out to BGW next Saturday and knowing its a weekend and to make matters worse, MEMORIAL DAY weekend... I was curious what to expect for waits in relation to coasters. and if theyre gonna be insanely long... which ones are MUST rides? Im figuring they would be Alpengiest, Apollo and Tempesto... but I also would like to ride Nessie. Not very familiar with the park... Any help would be appreciated!
  21. Apparently Royal Blue is ugly now. On a different note. It looks to me that they have the LEDs on both sides of the "track" or whatever you want to call it (No I am not referring to it as a coaster). That was one of the things I was a little worried about. I didnt want it to end up like Cedar Point's giant wheel with lights on one side. At least there the wheel is on the side of the park. Rolling thunder is within the park with guests able to see it easily on both sides. I'm honestly relieved. and that testing video showed some fun looking patterns. I cant wait to see this thing at night!
  22. Not to get off topic but I made this sorta/kinda recreation - ish of the RoS. I figured it was worth a share. The supports are no where near close in this because I completely forgot about how overkill they were on the real thing until the video was already uploaded. Aside from that it doesnt look too horrible. Hope you guys/gals enjoy it! [youtu_be]http://youtu.be/qwRwgPs0A_s[/youtu_be]
  23. I think it is just the 2 outside slides. Judging by the video I only the 2 twisty ones and nothing down the middle. "You Can't Control the Roll." Get rid of the cheesy tagline. Both are great additions for the park none the less. Its like no other parks have ever had cheesy tag lines before... Rougarou - Feeds on Screams Maverick - the old west was never this wild! Dragster - Race for the Sky Wicked Twister - Break the Scream Barrier Millennium Force - The Future is Riding on it Raptor - Kick the Sky and that's only 1 park! Is Darien Lake not allowed to have One ride with a tag line? I do enjoy the fact that they emphasized the lighting system on Rolling Thunder. It will be a shame to see a 70 foot circle out shine the 182 foot Giant Wheel, but maybe in the future they can light up the skyline together. I'm not much of a water park person either but I think the Brain Drain would make me a little curious to go visit Splashtown this summer. I love the idea of a Skybox system. That alone makes me want to try the slides out! Good job to Darien Lake!
  24. is it just me, or does this picture Darien Lake posted not look real?
