  1. ^ I feel like coasternut's picture shows off the track color a LOT nicer than the ones seen previously. I really like the orange seeing it in that picture - much clearer than the older ones
  2. ^ in that case, it wouldn't have been all that difficult to mention that in your previous post. That was my bad for assuming you were saying that based on things said previously on this thread. I hope there aren't any hard feelings. Anything else fun come up in your Q&A?
  3. Found this on a tumblr page about people complaining about the announcement date being moved. Sometimes we're Squidward, sometimes we're SpongeBob! http://coastermadness.tumblr.com/post/126271887426/the-employees-after-cedar-point-fires-them-because
  4. And not a single mention of the Quadratic formula... I am ashamed of all of you! How are we supposed to know X without it?! PEMDAS doesn't even have a catchy jingle to help students in middle and high school remember it! We can pinpoint EXACT coordinates of these track pieces as long as we know A B and C. x equals negative b plus or minus the square root of b squared minus four time a plus c, all over two a. Which of course I did some math myself and came up with this rough sketch of the layout based on the two pieces on site so far: Of course this is a very similar layout to the one coasterbill got when he used PEMDAS and the Pathagorean Theorem, twice. But with the quadratic formula we get a new angle to look at the ride with! Any other formulas we can play with to see even MORE views?! Maybe even a POV? EDIT: CoasterBill, I take you up on your TI-83, and raise you my TI-nspire
  5. ^ obviously they're completely retracting the ride and setting up a 5 block course for 3 train operations! Complete with MCBR on the hill following the first helix. Come on now, no one said for sure that RoS was getting its second train next year. Doug said that the managers and the big wigs are looking into adding more two train operations next year. Assuming that would be RoS could be true, but my thought is RoS is the BIGGEST ride in the park, it's also the most expensive. The trains on RoS are MUCH more complicated than the Zamperla Motocoaster or the SLC trains. Not to mention there are already parts for Mind Eraser's second train on site. All We have as of right now is an assumption based on a brief statement, and a new RUMOUR that RoS may be getting a re theme and new trains for 2016. For all the kids keeping track at home - a rumor does not by any stretch of the imagination prove anything in any circumstance. If this was CP we were talking about, they had trademarks and invoices and leaked apps and as of this morning they have actual dive machine track on site. I don't see any fancy schmancy new intamin trains at Darien just yet. And not to mention I haven't heard anything about premier or Darien or any potential buyer of the park filing for any trademarks (though I'm not sure they'd have to...). Darien has the element of surprise right now. 2016 could blow us away. Or it could be something minor. We have no idea yet! And in all honesty, I like that. Though I hope it's something cool like new trains for RoS - which wouldn explain why they chose Viper and Predator to start 2 train operations over the biggest ride in the park... None of us - except Doug perhaps really know what's in store for Darien Lake in 2016.
  6. Crane spotted out infront of Breakers Express!
  7. I feel like it wouldn't make sense for them to originally want to do a big announcement on park property during the operating season - boosting attendance as well as publicity, to having the event in December... Where would they holed said announcement? And I'm not sure many people would be willing to wait in the cold for just an announcement and nothing else. Not to mention I doubt they'd keep the 9:00 pm timing. It wouldn't make sense! And by December I'm sure they'd be vertical on construction, and it would be like Tempesto all over again! All the enthusiasts figured that one out WAY before it was announced. Even if that's the case with this, at least CP might have a few more tricks we didn't see yet... But f they wait until December and suddenly we're seeing them digging a big ditch or building a splashdown or SOMETHING that isn't in the leaked layout, then it takes away the little element of surprise they have left. I'm hoping they meant 9, 19, or 29 over 129. They need to get the announcement out there before Six Flags... That would be optimal... But who knows at this point...
  8. ^ Maybe they could do a HUGE announcement day! How cool would it be if they announced a new ride, RoS re theme, and Management change all in one shot? They could get a TON of positive press off of it and potentially be right in the limelight (front page of TPR maybe?! What's better than that? )! Almost like that huge flop of an announcement they did with Nik Wallenda at the 2 Tim Hortons locations last year but better! .. Maybe even boost attendance by having the announcement in park DURING the season?? Make use of that RoS plaza and hold it right in there!! Rent a screen, get a nice little PowerPoint going, make it look professional though - and BAM - all over the Internet, trending on the local news, people on this very thread potentially being incredibly excited, it would be a dream for PR at Darien!! I may be thinking out loud and dreaming a little too much here - but I can hope for my home park... Can't I?
  9. So... Did anyone go to the Coaster Campout over the weekend..? Seems like the one at CP was the least publicized out of all of them... And that's weird to me because they were the ones to start it... Maybe it's the whole raptor thing?
  10. ^ I feel like he isn't going to give any confirmation of anything until it's officially announced by the park itself. I think it would be really cool though to announce the 2016 ride(s) along with the shiny new paint on ME and a Re-theme of RoS complete with brand spanking new trains all in one shot. I would be quite content if the 2016 attraction went in the RoS plaza - because that would completely justify a re theme and refresh of the ride of steel and not only reimagine the entire plaza but also bring people to the new area more so than if they plopped it down where twister is. As they say in real estate, Location Location Location!
  11. ^ YES I wish they would install these. Everytime I ride the Mind Eraser I get think about those trains and how much better they would make the ride. Think about it! No head banging on an SLC!!!
  12. Do we have an estimated time as for when said sale will take place? I know for a fact this sale could impact new additions to the park next year. So I'm hoping the sooner the better. I keep seeing those Dollywood additions from Hershend and I get excited for the possibility that they could be the ones running DL. Now I wouldn't expect them to jump in and immediately create DLs version of Lightning Rod, but have you seen Firechaser Express? Wild Eagle? Minebuster? I know Wild Eagle is on the higher end of the price range but they know how to build awesome looking rides! I've personally never been there - but with Lightning Rod being added in 2016, I think it's about time I get out there! I'm just saying. I want to eventually have the same type of excitement at my home park. CP's 16/17 coasters (depending on the way you look at it) are awesome, but they're 4 hours away. DL is practically down the street. Though I get crazy excited for CP announcements, I want to one day feel the same about DL. I still remember the ultimate let down from last February or so where they amped up a "big announcement" and it ended up just being the Nik Wallenda show. Granted I did enjoy it, it wasn't something I'd go and see over and over again. And now yet again, the Galaxy Theatre is SBNO, along with ranger, twister is soon to be in the same place, corn popper - from what I've heard on here - is becoming a nightmare, boomerang is barely creeping up the lifts... I'm hoping there's at least some sort of bid placed on the park before the season ends.. They have been trying but with CNL still running the money show, these park operators can't do what they truly want to.. And it's affecting operations, additions, repaires and I'm assuming 2 train operations. Even though Doug did announce Viper and Predator are getting their second trains this season. That still leaves 3 applicable coasters without them, AND one of those happens to be the parks BIGGEST ride... Based on this thread and personal experiences in the park... I feel that CNL selling the park to someone who knows what they're doing is DLs best chance at becoming more successful. The park has potential. But it can't be reached when CNL won't allow major investments... #LakeMonsterRod2017 just sayin
  13. Who cares if anyone gets wet? I say pipe in Lake Erie water. Let everyone get a good dose of that crisp, invigorating, savory, crystal clear Lake Erie gold. ^ This. Anyways. I'm not saying he is teasing us or anything but I also wouldn't say he's being entirely quiet either. There's a soundbite post - what I assume is the Valravn announcement music. i could be wrong, maybe it actually is for kids, like trix or whatever. Then theres the official "one week left!" reminder, and a post only a little while ago about not being able to pick which grand opening shirt he likes the best. Maybe he'll have a better chance at choosing one next year... Now with going back to what Robb said a little while back... about needing to RSVP for the event itself... This makes me think that they have to stream it somehow... They did for Gatekeeper. But if I remember correctly, they also announced they would stream it at least a week before August 13th (the announcement date). I know the people whom run CP Fansite will be streaming it live from periscope as per this status: Hopefully CP will have it done professionally, but if not, I'm sure these guys wont do a bad job.
  14. Just a quick thought... With the lift being over 200 feet tall, and there being a possibility of a sligltly longer drop (if there is any kind of tunnel or ditch) - could that that possibly mean that first Immelmann could be taller than 170 feet? That would be around a 50' difference in height if the statistics are correct. Then they could claim it as being th tallest freestanding inversion on the planet. Another record they could push for this ride. I'm not sure how possible that may be. Or if it would create some fun hang time or become a bore with an unnecessary raised potential to valley... But nonetheless CP does enjoy breaking records!
  15. That makes a lot of sense. I've honestly only skimmed the last few pages of the thread and it seemed like people were believing those renderings were the finalized ones... So I hopped on the two cents train to say why I thought they couldn't be the final ones. I also do have to admit sometimes I type without fully proofing my posts before sharing them... Sometimes they do get repetitive. My bad. This also helps. I remembered Griffons MCBR being pretty high up but seeing that I only rode it once, and I was rushed - being with a large group - I really didn't have the time to look into those little things like MCBR heights and brake run lengths. Seeing those pictures though. It does seem a lot more realistic. Thanks To the both of you for the clarification!
  16. My only thoughts about the leak are: 1) that layout looks nothing like the typical renderings CP has used in the past. With the exception of maverick, there are renderings that all look incredibly similar for Millennium, Wicked Twister, Dragster, Gatekeeper and Rougarou. At least that's what I've seen. I'm not sure of the credibility of the pre Gatekeeper layout animations... But I guess if you look at other cedar fair announcements, they are all the actual colors of the ride, pretty gosh darn realistic, usually on a white background, and has the train SOMEWHERE on the layout. 2) the MCBR seems incredibly high up to me... If this is supposed to be over 200 feet tall, wouldn't that mean that MCBR is either 100' or higher up in the air? That seems a *little* high for an MCBR to me... 3) Some of these supports don't make total sense to me... Mainly at the base of the lift hill, and some parts of the track seem to have too much space between supports... 4) That final brake run seems like it's very very long... For a 3 car long train especially... I mean. Unless they want to announce the longest brake run on a dive machine to battle Lightning Rod's Quadruple Down airtime awesomeness. Though I'm sure whatever Valravn ends up being, will be awesome... I have higher expectations for the actual layout rendering... The white track and white supports on a black background seems incredibly bland and not really all that real to Me... Maybe CP just threw those fake layouts on their countdown in case it actually was hacked into or leaked somehow like with Gatekeeper. Maybe this is there nod to that happening. I'll try to keep an optimistic attitude with this. I'm hopeful for what they have to offer. And I'm willing to wait 9 days give or take to know for sure what they're adding. (For the record, I am on the "it's gonna be a dive machine" side of things)
  17. Why exactly doesn't motocoaster count? Is it not good enough for you people that Darien received a first of its kind attraction? Is a unique launching coaster not good enough for you? If motocoaster doesn't count because it's too short or because it's zamperla, then maybe Boomerang and Mind Eraser shouldn't count either because they were just off the shelf models. Seriously. I get it isn't a major coaster but it's still a coaster! "Fools!"
  18. I think virtual wind might be a bigger issue. Ride operator: "Look, I KNOW the ride is supposed to have virtual lightning but you also KNOW as per the policies here at Cedar Point, we can not operate any roller coasters when there is ANY sight of lightning within (insert insane distance here) virtual miles!" Guess we might as well look into that "World's Largest Dave and Busters" idea again... with all that virtual lightning, the park may never be able to open its coasters ever again! (I'm done after this post, I promise. Two terrible posts bashing CP's rain policy is enough out of this enthusiast)
  19. Do you think maybe that's why they say it's going to be a "Historic Day"? "Announcing the worlds FIRST roller coaster to feature Virtual Reality theming - where the water is always choppy plus thunder and Whyte Lightning ignite the sky!" But remember if there are any virtual raindrops the ride has to close down as per Cedar Point's virtual rain policy.
  20. I'm sure the radius will appropriated for the rolling stock, but I still agree. These trains are wide, not long, so the loading/unloading process shouldn't be too long. I wonder if they'll try a Maverick/TTD style station system? Expect the front is load and the back is unload. I'm starting to suspect a flyer at this point. I can't clearly remember, but i THINK Sheikra does this. I could be completely wrong, but I'm fairly certain. I would personally hope that Valravn would use the same station style / system as TTD, Maverick and SheiKra. I have only been to BGW and I remember Griffon was pretty much constantly stacking. There was only room for one train in the station. I don't remember being rushed - persay but I do remember the load/unload process was a little chaotic. Like, the second they restraints unlocked, the gates would open and people would flood in to get the seats they wanted. Being that it was my first dive coaster, I absolutely enjoyed every last second of it. Yes, even AFTER the MCBR. I remember laughing and simply enjoying the ride from start to finish and if it wasnt for the insanely long line - considering I didnt have much time to be in the park - I would've went on it again and again. The drop was insane. I wasn't at all expecting it to be because I've been on all the coasters currently at the Point and I figured nothing could compare... but in all honesty it FELT like CP quality. And I remember saying that to the people I went with (Whom by the time we left were a little tired of my coaster enthusiast commentary) and a few of them that have been to CP agreed. So if they get a Dive Machine, and it is longer, taller, faster etc. than griffon, I would expect it to be amazing. IMHO.
  21. Looks like I just got some nice new desktop backgrounds! These pictures are amazing! I love the ones from battery park! Such a great view of the Point! Thank you so much for posting!
  22. Strates brings the rides too, so if Strates got rid of it then they wouldnt have it at the Fair of course. I was curious about it and I checked the Strates website - They still have the Top Spin listed. The copyright date on the site is only 2014 though... Maybe they removed it towards the end of their 2013 season and just haven't updated the site yet. Which by the way, Their site is actually really nice. I was not expecting anything like it! Good on them for that awesome site! Also - Another curiosity question, when did the laser show switch from being sponsored by Wegmans and Labatt Blue to being Sponsored by Tops? Was there a reason behind it? Or was it a just because thing?
  23. I knew the Top Spin left the Fair, but I didn't think it was because of age... that almost makes me feel better. I thought it was because the fair was losing funds of some sort and they couldn't afford to have as many rides. I enjoyed the Top Spin over at the fair WAY more than I did the Twister. The fair crew always had that thing flipping like mad! the last year they had it my sister was riding it non-stop (It was her favorite ride there - mine is personally the "not Larson super loop" Fireball ride) and one time it literally flipped 9 times in a row. What's the average flips per cycle done on Twister anymore...? If it's even open, that is.
  24. That's what I've been saying! Here's my standing on this. Tony said in that video questionnare that the 2016 attraction is going to be behind the wall. Where they just ripped down the Good Time Theatre. I would think when they tear down a building in an amusement park with limited space such as Cedar Point, they wouldn't just throw another building in it's place the next year. I'm thinking of that space in the park to be a recreation of what happened with Gatekeeper, They tore down the building to open up the area and give more views of the beach and Lake Erie. When there's a coaster into the Pumpkin Patch, it will make for 7 Coasters beautifully set right along the shoreline. It will be quite the sight to behold both on and off the peninsula and as I already said it will give spectacular views - maybe even more unique ones based on which direction the drop is pointing because of that brake at the top of the drop. To me, if they were gonna build a dark ride, it would be stupid to do it in that specific location. If it was to be more in the middle of the park, maybe near or even inside some of the existing structures so it doesn't stand out I'd believe it to be a dark ride. But you don't see a timeline of the parks "Legacy of world class dark rides" now, do you?
