Stupid Moves that Parks have made
noregrets replied to tribar's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^they demolished the place right before the housing bubble burst if I remember correctly. Literally no one benefited from that. -

Whether this is the result of Islamophobia or higher safety standards in the wake of RoS, it doesnt matter either way. You do what the park says or you don't ride. No need to start mobbing with police and behaving like children. Lol I remember throwing tantrums when my parents wouldn't let me go on a ride when I was a kid. -
Stupid Moves that Parks have made

How about Universal Orlando taking out Back to the Future for that Simpsons crap? Lol its not high on my list of grievances but its the only one I can think that hasn't been mentioned. Oh wait. Also Six Flags theming stuff to passing fads like Tony Hawk and The Wiggles. And I didn't even know that Thomas the Tank was still part of culture.... -

That would be truly terrifying, being on a coaster or ride during an earthquake. Who knows what could happen? Consider yourself lucky! As for me, I was sunbathing on a beach in Boston and I felt it....that's pretty intense (and the first quake I've ever felt!) -
^I highly doubt sfne has been improved greatly because Shapiro has family nearby. I'd say it's because of the HUGE market this park has. I mean eastern MA has nothing in terms of parks, and sfne is a big draw (they have great bus routes from Boston to the park too). Deja Vu would have been great for TGE but there's the height issue and neighbor complaint issue with that park too. The way I see it Flashback has to be slated for removal after next year. If I'm not mistaken it's one of the oldest boomerangs around (not that it's aged badly though).

Hersheypark (HP) Discussion Thread

Good point I didn't think of that. Well for Dive Machines though the effect isn't the same really unless you're on the end. Either way its new to the Northeast. I've never been on anything like it. -
I suppose that makes sense. I'm not an economist but they probably do get a much higher rate of return from moving an existing ride to a new market than they would building something entirely new (or not doing anything at all). The GP doesn't know the difference. From an enthusiast's standpoint it's crumby though lol. When will SF get back on it's feet?

^I think the seats on this thing make it truly unique. You're floating over emptiness 200' up! Not to mention the 85 degree drop is a pinch steeper than that new giga that everyone's talking about.... SkyRush has definitely had it's thunder stolen from it. -
Yeah this park kind of fell by the wayside after it got flagged. I don't think deflagging it helped either, its gone back to its pre-Premier Parks slow growth days. Darien Lake will be lucky if it gets any good coasters (rather than crappy fairground Celebration City junk) in the next decade. Not that I think it's going to shutdown or anything. The waterpark has flourished in recent years.

The Future of Giga Coasters?
noregrets replied to Saldek's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Logan Airport isn't a dome^ and that's what I'm going off. Downtown Boston is only a few thousand feet from the airport but it doesn't lie within the flight paths of the runways, whereas South Boston, where a lot of new development is occurring, is limited in height because planes fly directly over it. I've used airport height restriction maps when designing graphics for the Port Authority, and that's just been my experience. They look like the runways are superimposed over the city. -
Canada's Wonderland Discussion Thread

The name is great too, the way it parallels Behemoth (both biblical monsters). I only wish they'd taken the Leviathan name further. In the bible Leviathan is a dragon like sea creature with a long snake-like body. It's big, but it's not know for being large. They should have gone for a real record with this thing and produced a sit-down with 11 inversions (and not just a bunch of barrel rolls, that's cheating). Still, this is really great. I was planning to hit up Canada's Wonderland for the first time next summer, and now I have extra incentive! -
Europa Park Discussion Thread
noregrets replied to Ultracoasters's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Ouch guess there're a lot of Germans here...? Last I checked modern theme parks were an American invention for our suburbs, so, if anything, American parks are the bottled wine to Europe's boxed. Just take the freakin compliment already people. -
Europa Park Discussion Thread

I was reading about it a few weeks ago and looking at pics. Its location looks like the midwest. It has a large collection of coasters, large coasters, which is just not that common in Europe. Looks like Germany loves there thrill rides as much as us. I'm of course juxtaposing this to other European parks like Tivoli Gardens which are tiny in acreage and located in dense cities and just overall look ANCIENT. Europa has this cedar fair-like gleam in the colors it uses for its rides and theming. -
The Future of Giga Coasters?
noregrets replied to Saldek's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
This would only be an issue for parks near airports, and then only those (coasters that is) that lie directly in the flight paths of runways. But it could be a legitimate concern as they get higher and higher. I think the real one is, like someone above said, NIMBYs would begin to become major problems. -

Europa Park is really impressive, it's the most American-style park in Europe. Too bad I never had a lesson in German and will probably never make it there.... -
The Future of Giga Coasters?
noregrets replied to Saldek's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Right now there are only 3 (soon to be 4) in the world, right? If "Giga" coasters become the new megas, we might start seeing a lot of parks that already have mega coasters adding gigas too, like Canada's Wonderland. This is a tough question though because most parks DO already have some form of height/speed coaster. I think SFGAdv and SFGAm are top contenders for the net Giga, intamin or otherwise.
