  1. Exactly. What's the next closest JL, Texas? Then St. Louis? Not exactly a large demographic of the typical SFMM guest travels there. Plus, I love how people complain and joke that SF never does dark rides, and when they finally do, people complain it's a clone. You know there are 5 different "It's a Small World" rides out there? Clones! Disney is clearly a loser for cloning.
  2. Pic was taken on July 2, empolyee preview on July 9 = 1 week. That said, I am inclined to agree that if it's only the exterior work that needs to be done, they'll work around the clock and be done in time.
  3. ^^Where did that notice come from? I haven't seen it yet anywhere else but here.
  4. ^I had a similar, though lesser in importance, experience at Carrowinds. Park closed at 10pm that night, and got in line for Ricochet (their wild mouse coaster) at about 9:50, which still had number of people in line. To be honest, I wasn't dying to ride it, it was more about getting an extra easy credit. But when we were 2nd next to ride, the ops said, "It's 10 o'clock. Ride's closed." And we didn't get to go on. Just shut it down right in front of us after waiting fairly in line. I thought that was sorta douchy. If a ride wants to actually be closed at a certain time, then they should close off the line earlier. And if they don't, and you're in line, then you should get to ride. I felt it was a bit unfair, although admittedly not on the same scale as you had after an hour wait on Prowler. That's worse. But same premise.
  5. I personally wouldn't invest a three hour drive for WoF. Unless they get something exciting, we may not go back until we have a kid. Especially when considering parks like Kings Island, Kentucky Kingdom, Silver Dollar City, and Six Flags Great America are all within relatively the same driving distance of four to five hours for us. If WoF eventually gets an exciting roller coaster to go with Prowler, I will probably at least reconsider. I'm driving in from Omaha, Nebraska (I have a work trip there), so no, none of those other parks are within a reasonable driving distance for me. The only other "major" park that is is Adventureland in Des Moines, which is fun, but I've already been there twice, been on Monster, and as much as I liked it, the second visit felt like more than enough for me. While WoF is also relatively non-descript, it's relative proximity and cost (free with my pass) make it more attractive, despite the flaws. I'll just go in with very low expectations. And yes, I know SDC is only a few more hours, but that extra drive time (which really adds up because I only have one free day and I have to return to Omaha), plus the extra costs, plus the fact that they don't have anything new since I've been there last, means it's not practical. At least WoF has the Condor and Troika as new. I'm just really hoping the operations improve by the time I get there.
  6. I've actually stayed at that Ameristar Casino hotel myself! It really wasn't that bad, and it's quite close to WOF... we had a room that in fact had a view of the park! And I do agree with many... WOF is a nice park, but at the end of the day, nothing special. When I initially rode Prowler many years ago, I did love it. It has gotten rougher with age, which is a shame... when it was smooth, it was pretty great. I will be going back in a few weeks myself, mainly because I'm a sucker for Troikas (there's none in CA!) and Condors, which are also relatively rare... I don't believe there are any on the West Coast. So I have to ride them when I can. Don't know why I love them so much, but I do. The last few pages of this thread talked about the abysmal operations... I hope that's getting sorted out...
  7. Probably the mid-late 1970's. We were there in 1975 when the Wizard and his Trolls were The Mascots of Magic Mountain. There was no ownership in it's name, like it is now. So that's probably one of the Trolls, dressed for whatever German-style eating place/bar (maybe?) that was there, back then. With it's own souvenirs shop! I actually own a MM stuffed animal troll. Still has the tag as well, though it's not attached anymore.
  8. Interesting. Granted, I hadn't tried recently, but after years of asking and always getting the same answer (no, you have to pay again), I gave up asking and figured it was set. I thought maybe it was chain-wide, but when I looked up other Cedar Fair parks, most allowed reentry. It was just Knott's. Curiously, the website backs up what I say. Go to their website > Help > FAQ > Popular FAQ... "Reentry is not permitted into the parking lots for single day parking passes or All Season Parking." But perhaps it hasn't been updated? Or some of you jut got very generous parking employees willing to turn a blind eye?
  9. Bringing up a question out of nowhere, but it's been driving me crazy for a while. Knott's is the only theme park I know of that does not allow re-entry for car parking. That is to say, if you get in your car and leave the lot, and return the same day, you must pay for parking again. This applies even if you have a season pass with parking... you can only use it once a day. Does anyone know why this policy is in place just at Knott's? Disney, Knott's, and Universal all allow cars to re-enter the lot on the same day. It just makes no sense to me.
  10. This is so disappointing to me to hear. I've been to Worlds of Fun before, and while it's collection of coasters isn't necessarily outstanding, it was a pleasant park. I have an opportunity to be in the area in early July, and I'm struggling if I actually want to stop by or not. I do already have a Cedar Fair Platinum Pass and Drink pass, so it wouldn't really be a cost to me except for a 3 hour drive to get there. And I've already been on all the major coasters, so it'd be a purely repeat visit. So I'm really trying to figure out of that's worth it or not. I do enjoy Condor, and there aren't that many of them out there (and same with Troikas, which are more common in the mid-west, but not so much on the west coast). But these horrible operations stories are really causing me to doubt myself.
  11. I loved that, and the "room of doors". Been through twice (two separate visits), and once that room was dimmly lit, and the other was brightly lit. Preferred the former, obviously. Also on my first visit to the Castle, an employee got really into the opening elevator scene, moving around in the darkness and popping up in random locations when the light flashed... sometimes very close to us. It was hysterical and unnerving. I do enjoy the park as a whole. I've been fortunate that when I've gone, the operations were relatively decent. It has a very retro, trapped in time vibe. But boy, it sure is in the middle of nowhere. I'm guessing that probably is a primary reason operations aren't better.
  12. Not much being said about the progress of Justice League... anyone have any updates or possible opening day projections?
  13. I'm a West Coast guy just joining this thread. I scanned back bout 10 pages, but haven't seen any possible mention of when this could open. Are there any ideas? It looks too far along to be next year, yet possibly not quite far along enough for this summer. I'm going to be out there at the end of July... should I get my hopes up at all?
  14. Universal did an unannounced public soft opening of the light show last night. There is strong suspicion they will do more for the rest of the Memorial Day weekend. No guarantee of how it will work for future nights, but last night they did two showings, one at about 8:40 and another at about 8:55. Lots of Universal execs around. I did enjoy it a lot. My husband did record the second show, and it clocked in at almost exactly 5 minutes. I would already recommend trying to see a second show (should they do one), because it really emptied out after the first show. We had no idea it was going to happen, but we were able to put together a lot of various clues that led to it: the fact that there were no more Frog Choir or Tri Wizard shows after 6pm even though the park was open until 9pm, and they put up many stanchions to block off large areas around the Tri Wizard Stage and opposite of Filch's. Attending team members just said it was for a "special event", but some at the FotH ride told us flat out it was for the light show at 8:45 and 9:00 when we asked. Their times were a bit off, but that may have been because it was a soft opening. If you want to know about the show itself: SPOILER ALERT BELOW (and I can't find a spoiler tag, so I did a strikethrough instead) . . . . . . . . . . . It's essentially exactly the same as the media day light show. Differences include the addition of lights in the Forbidden Forest and the flying hogs at the ride entrance, a narration by the sorting hat, and a new ending that sort of mimics the effects of fireworks. Unsurprisingly, there are no real fireworks, I'm quite sure due to local regulations.
  15. This. http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2016/03/02/family-sues-knotts-berry-farm-after-they-allege-son-was-injured-on-coast-rider/
  16. ^I'm all for unique. If something of that nature happened, I'd be thrilled. That said, I haven't heard any sort of evidence whatsoever that any R&D has gone into spicing up Impluse coasters. If I'm wrong (and I may be), let me know. But if not, then why waste time speculating about something where no work is being done?
  17. ^^Especially on a forum for enthusiasts, where we know that aside from the inconvenience for the guests on board, it's a non-event.
  18. ^Why is this being posted in the Magic Mountain thread?
  19. I actually asked about that as well. The hotel told me that they can only hold bags if you are actually staying at the hotel.
  20. I actually asked this same question, and the answer is no.
  21. While I've heard Shrek 4D is being removed, very few seem to believe it's for HP expansion. After all, they are using the top of that building for projectors for the presumed castle show, which hasn't even opened yet. So I doubt it's going away as of yet. Most seem to believe it'll be a Kung Fu Panda movie, and that sounds credible. This is also the first I'm hearing of a Mummy VR treatment. I'd hope not, as it'd make the line unbearably slow, and USH seems to care more about their RPH output, so I'd be surprised if that happened.
  22. They could make it stand out by having a normal one. The one at SFDK is already tweaked, so normal by comparison would be different. That said, personally, I feel even the regular model would not be too terribly different enough, and they could do better in terms of having something more of their own. But they are about as different as those models do get. You're aware they can further "tweak" an already tweaked ride, right? I am fully aware. But there really doesn't seem to be any reason for them to do so.

  24. I think that's pretty unlikely, as we already have Green Lantern about an hour away, and most GP don't care for it much as it is. Plus, more low capacity? Very doubtful. I'm still in the Dive coaster camp myself. Not necessarily what I'd want personally (Gerstlaur or Intamin Maverick style would be amazing), but I can't deny it makes great business and space sense for them. It'd be a lot of bang for their buck, a one of a kind in the western US, would be an easy fit for the space (even a larger model), and the GP would go wild for it. I'd gather most local GP would have never even heard of this type of coaster, so their minds would be blown. It'd create a huge buzz for them. So why wouldn't they?
