  1. Having a race twice a year does not make an entire market a tourist hot bed.
  2. SFA now has the General Manager that was at Great Adventure for most of this decade. He's brought some fresh ideas to the table and IMO has really started making positive changes behind the scenes. I've been told that the general morale "backstage" is higher than anyone can remember and more emphasis has been placed on the guests of the park. I'm not saying SFA doesn't have any problems. Things are changing, that's all. As we all know, SFA is getting a large Thomas Town next year and early 2011 rumors have a thrill sized steel coaster addition.
  3. Still being new to TPR, I get the sense that many on here aren't ACE friendly but for what it's worth....on August 20th, the same day as the announcement, ACE is having a gathering for final rides on BBW at BGE in the evening.
  4. Not getting thrilled about finding a job posting. Simply adding fuel to the debate on what the coaster is. That job posting post created more buzz on this thread than there has been for the past week. Obviously people are sick and tired of talking about vertical lifts, vertical drops, support structures, gravy pool splash downs, and themes.
  5. Obviously there aren't many qualified applicants for the position if the posting from April is still up.
  6. King's Dominion's website lists the Eiffel Tower's observation deck at 275 feet and Drop Tower as 305 feet tall with a drop of 272 feet. So now the question is how tall is the top of the Eiffel Tower? The year prior to Drop Zone/Drop Tower whatever they had a large blue sign that compared the height of the ride to the Eiffel Tower at the park and the United States Capitol Building. Wikipedia lists the height of the Dome at 288 feet but doesn't mention whether or not that includes the statue at the top. The aoc.gov website lists the height as 287 feet statue included. While I don't remember the order of the Eiffel Tower/Capitol/Drop ride on the blue sign, it just doesn't seem logical that Drop ride wouldn't be the tallest on a comparison sign.
  7. I think Eiffel Tower is 280 and Drop Zone is 310, maybe 320. I'm not 100% sure on this so if someone knows for sure, step on up.
  8. It's been pointed out to me that Cedar Fair posted a job June 29th, 2009 on the corporate website with a minimum requirement being able to climb up to 350 feet. Here's a link to the Job site: http://www.cedarfair.com/ir/careers/permanent.cfm And the link to the Rides Electrian: http://www.cedarfair.com/_upload/contacts/kd%20rideelec%207-09.pdf
  9. Just a bit more than two weeks left until the announcement. While the last layout looks great, I can't wait to put an end to all the speculation. I'm really surprised with the teasers we saw for Diamondback and Prowler that we haven't seen anything like it yet at KD.
  10. IMO, theming has to be done really really well for it to even matter. Otherwise to me it goes un-noticed. Take DD at IOA or Revenge of the Mummy at USF. Cedar Fair will never build a coaster with theming like the two coasters mentioned above so it doesn't even matter.
  11. SFNE's Great Chase Convinced a friend to intentionally dare me to ride the coaster in front of our friends. I wanted the credit as I get closer to 200 but didn't want to face the embarasment in the group environment. Since I was "dared" there was no shame.
  12. The stairs could also be for access to a section for a block brake. While MF doesn't have a mid course block what's not to say this coaster won't either?
  13. Montu was my first B&M coaster and I was fortunate enough to ride in 1996 before the mid course block brake was turned on. I'd rank: Montu Fire Dragon Raptor Alpengist Talon Ice Dragon Batman - SF etc. Great Bear My significant other is new to coasters and has only been Montu and Alpengist. He favors Montu over Alpengist as he got Montu he had tears of happiness coming out of his eyes and said "wow". He's only been to King's Dominion, BGE, BGA, SWO, SFA, and SFGAdv and Montu is his number one overall coaster.
  14. The 20'x20' measurement I gave was an guesstimate at best. I failed miserably at geometry but I know four equally lengthed sides equals a square. I also know what a 20x20 party tent looks like in size thanks to many years of event planning. The 20 x 20 measurement was only an approximation. I didn't measure it myself.
  15. Although the I don't have any missed credits regrets, my only coaster regret is my last visit to Geagua Lake. I was there the friday night before the park closed for good. Geauga was has their annual Oktoberfest weekend and I just happened to be on my way to Cedar Point when I talked a friend into making the stop. The stop was his first visit and my first visit since 2001. We rode everything but Big Dipper. We waited in line for thirty minutes and then the clouds opened up. After a few minutes of the down pour, we decided to hit to the parking lot as we still had to drive to the Point. As we exited the parking lot, the rain stopped. Three days later Dick K. announces the park's closing. My regret is not getting one last memorable ride on Big Dipper. So close yet so far.
  16. No. It was a perfect square. Similar to what would be the base for a MF lift support. Without having another footer being poured, one cannot rule out that this *could* be a vertical lift. Once more footers of this size arrive, I think we can throw out the vertical lift theory.
  17. Walking into SF America back in 2004, I heard an angry father screaming at the top of his lungs at a child sitting in a stroller "You're going to have fun today whether you want to or not."
  18. Long time reader, first time poster. I've spent over a decade on another internet message board and have finally decided to make the switch. I've been reading this thread daily since the post showed the washers with the giga label. I went to King's Dominion today for the first time since the track showed up. From what I could tell from Anaconda's lift... There is now a clear layout of footers that indicate to me there is a helix heading into the final brake run and a sharp turn 90 degrees to the left (to the right if you're standing on Anaconda's exit platform. The sharp turn into the station does not have footers. There is a trough to show this turn. I couldn't see much else from Anaconda either than the size of this site. It's much bigger than the pics that have been posted show. The site of the site is impressive. I did not see any pink stakes near or under Anaconda. While riding Rebel Yell (North side), on the turn around I spotted one large square footer that I'd guesstimate was 20'x20'. While it was a very brief look I got at this footer, I couldn't see any evidence of any other footers that size that have yet to been poured. My first thought was that the size of the footer would be comparable for the lift structure style on MF at the base. My second thought concludes that not only will the layout featuring the helix into the brakes, the sharp left turn, the station which start about 30 yards southeast of Anaconda's station, and the lift running straight out of the station headiing south towards Rebel Yell's turn around. There wasn't too much land clearence between Rebel Yell's turn around and the waterslides for the waterpark. I'm guessing after the first drop there will be a high speed hign banked turn to the left heading east towards the rest of the course that will be all that cleared land in the distance. We're due for another podcast or kdfansite pics any day know that can confirm this.
