Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread
Carnage replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^ I don't really buy the 500 footer rumour. Unless the Cedar Fair folks are are gluttons for punishment. I'd expect them to go a more dependable route after getting burned by Intamin the last few times. -
Cedar Point (CP) Discussion Thread

I wouldn't look much into that. Probably just means there's more free room on the former WWL site compared to where MF sits. It's like 95% sure that this site is for the 2007 coaster. However the specifics about what type, etc will still be somewhat of a mystery for awhile. My money's on a dueling flyer. Though really it's a crap shoot at this point. -
Actually that does make sense now that I think about it that way. It'll probably just come down to trial and error. Won't really cost me all that much anways. On eBay I should be able to get a wide angle/telephoto set for about $60 including shipping. (haven't had all that much luck finding just a WA). Though I might also make a trip down to a local mall that basically specializes in cheap imported stuff from Asia.

Random Photo TR: Rail and Bus Fanning
Carnage replied to AznShortBoi8021's topic in Random, Random, Random
I grew up living right next to train tracks. Though the novelty wore off pretty quickly when a freight train would block the crossing, resulting in a 45 minute walk down to where an underpass was. (when my house was directly across the tracks). -
^ Is there a technical reason for the image stability? Just curious. I would have guessed that camera shake wouldn't change all that much between lenses. I'll take your word for it, I just am always curious how things work. So Robb you have a 0.6X WA lense. Jeff what type of WA lense do you use? I'm guessing that the higher the number the more of a fisheye affect will be produced? So if I wanted something a bit more suited for PC's, a smaller number would be better then a crazy high number?
-
Thanks for the Medusa videos in the video forum Jeff. Makes the difference pretty obvious. I might try and pick up a WA lense at some point, though only if I can get it for a decent price. For those that use WA lenses, do you leave the lense on all the time? Or do you put it on only for specific uses like POVs?
-
Thanks for the comments guys. Does the strength of the lense affect how much of a fisheye affect is given off? I don't really notice much on Robb's videos.

Weird dream about SFMM
Carnage replied to BarryH's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
In your dream did you have to write a drama queen letter trumping up a minor incident to get free stuff? -
Figured I'd ask both questions in one thread,as quite possibly the first will have a simple answer. Do you use a wind cut feature on your camcorder? I've noticed a bit of wind noise on your POVs, but not all that much. I've got the option on my camcorder, but haven't really tried it out much. Just wondering if it has any affect on sound quality or anything else. I'd guess that the biggest change would be battery life? And secondly, what kind of wide angle lense do you use? I've been thinking about a WA lense, but am not sure what to look for. In particular I'm curious aobut what the various sizes will do in terms of quality/look. What causes the fisheye/looking through a tube affect? I've noticed this most on pkdcoaster's POVs in the video forum. He mentioned somewhere that it doesn't show as much on a tv(which I confirmed). So what causes this? And how to avoid it? I'd like a lense that is well suited for both tv and pc(with a strong lean towards pc).

At this point USA is really the only choice for me. Moving overseas really doesn't interest me at the moment. Then again if I had the chance to live in New Zealand/Australia I would hvae to really think about it.

TPR's 3rd Annual Coaster Video Contest
Carnage replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Cool. I've gotten alot better then last year. Last years entries were my first attempt at DV editing. Still probably not good enough to win, but I'll still give it a shot. -
Big mac tuesday every week for me. I pretty much live off fast food.

Weird dream about SFMM

Stop going to bed after eating magic mushrooms. -
I figured it out after the first. Well I suspected after the first, confirmed it by clicking the link.

I'm writing the song "Credit Whore"

You might not want to use the phrase "I borrow 3 year old boys". -
I have a new idea
Carnage replied to coasterlover420's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
There was a similar prototype that I remember seeing. I think it was built by Setpoint? It looked like a normal inverted coaster but attached to the side of the track. -
I'm getting my wisdom teeth removed.
Carnage replied to coasterdude5's topic in Random, Random, Random
It all depends on if they are impacted or not. If they're out then it's not much different then pulling normal teeth, and won't hurt too much. But if they're impacted then they can hurt like hell. All 4 of mine were impacted. In fact my 12 year molars were half impacted as well. If that wasn't enough, due to having a small jaw all 4 wisdom teeth were flipped(so the top of the teeth were facing toward the front of my mouth). They had to cut back the gums, crack each tooth in half, and remove them peice by peice. I was awake for the whole thing. It was complete torture. -
Ride Concept I think would be Great
Carnage replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I wonder if dizzyness/nausia would be a problem for some though? I know I get pretty dizzy if I look sideways while on a boomerang, etc. -
^ Yes, and no. It definetly has some good flat rides. Although most of them are run pretty slow. The intensity of the flats isn't really all that great.

My love of coasters began far before I got RCT. Though RCT definetly fueled it a bit. Before RCT I had already gotten into Disney's coaster game. Also before RCT I was reading Thrillride daily. I always dreamed of riding all these coasters that were being built. And now I've ridden or plan to ride nearly all the one's I dreamed about.

^ Not really. There's not nearly as much theming at PCW. Paramount has always been pretty skimpy on the themeing. Drop the Italian Job, rename Top Gun, remove what little Paramount propery remains, get rid of the mascots. It wouldn't take any more money/time to retheme then when Cedar Fair bought SFWoA.

Probably. I think I went as far as I could on the QEW before crossing. It was a few years ago. All I know is that I made a left instead of a right. The next 30-45 minutes was spent in complete fear. Then later I did the same thing in Lima, Ohio. Took a nice tour of the sketchy part of town.
-
Probably helps that most of the cars are on blocks. I made a wrong turn once coming out of customs at Buffalo. Ended up lost in a pretty sketchy area. Pretty much rolled right through every stop sign I got to.

People that don't understand
Carnage replied to CoasterCrazy's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
My family has always liked roller coasters, so that wasn't odd. The thing that more confused them was the fact that I was travelling with people that I had met on the internet. They were kind of weirded out at first, even concerned. But they've just grown to accept it now.
