  1. When this first opened with the original open cars it was a fun OK coaster and a good addition to the park. When they 'updated' the cars it changed in to riding noisy plastic mobile greenhouses - must admit it was a unique ride experience but not in a good way. The track was fine; the problem was the cars. Moving it to Florida may not be a bad thing as it would provide the new park with another coaster but the key to this would be to re-introduce the original open cars or similar.
  2. I know that removing any coaster is a sad outcome but I think Legoland are moving in the right direction with this. The Jungle Coaster was definitely in my top ten worst list. Having a fully themed Legoland hotel will be cool and hopefully a new coaster to go with it would get me to go back to Legoland Windosr at some point. On our last visit we were far from impressed with the very long wait times for what are often OK but not fantastic rides. They need to increase the number of rides they have to help keep the queue rides down. Their fastpass equivalent doesn't come cheap and I could be wrong but it seemed to be having a negative impact on really busy days - with it you could just get on rides with a reasonable wait; without it you had no chance which was really disadvantaging the majority of park attendees. We encountered lots of stressed and frustrated families unable to get on any ride without a long wait - you could feel the collective stress in the air which isn't a good feeling in a theme park. On a positive note it shows how liked Legoland is - they simply need to find the investment to expand in line with it's customer base.
  3. This seems to be happening more and more in the UK which is becoming really frustrating. My local park - Flamingoland actually sell holiday homes within a few hundred feet of their main coasters - if I only had the money I'd buy one without any hesitation. Seriously though we do have increasing problems with local councils immediately backing local complaints about noise etc from coasters. Alton Towers must feel so frustrated in regards to this - when are local residents going to realise that these parks are their local industry and without them their local economy totally suffers. I live in a coastal town - Whitley Bay - years ago we lost the Spanish City as a local theme park and the local economy has never recovered. Hope that if this coaster does turn up in another Legoland park that they get new cars for it as the plastic box Lego cars were pure hell to ride in.
  4. Not sure what others may think but personally feeling rather happy about the following news: http://www.cllw.co.uk/attractions/adventure/junglecoaster.php The Jungle Coaster at Legoland is now being removed This was an OK ride before they turned the cars in to plastic boxes but dear me last year when I had the displeasure of enduring a ride on the Jungle Coaster - it very quickly got in to my no1 not to ride coaster experiences in my book. Unfortunately the plastic box cars were introduced to 'help' reduce the noise for local residents so the space vacated by the Jungle Coaster will be replaced by a hotel What Legoland Windsor really needs is a great coaster not an over priced hotel. I appreciate the park isn't about great thrill rides but they really do need to get their thinking caps on and introduce some improved rides. I really like this park - it can be great fun but on our last few visits the park has been just far too busy mainly due to too many visitors and not enough good rides to go around leading to far too many long queues and unhappy stressed visitors. Question - will this ride now finish up on the scrap heap or head to Florida minus the plastic boxes?
  5. Love Space Mountain and Rock N Roller Coaster but boy is Indy Jones a rough ride. Last time I rode this is was still going backwards - I do think it changed again to going forward?
  6. We are planning on visiting in July but must admit looking forward to riding one fish two fish more than the Harry Potter area - just hope that they haven't screwed up DD too much as this would be a real downer.
  7. We've visited Crealy a number of times over the years and its generally a very good family day out - what annoyed me last visit was that you pay the gate price which is reasonable but they then charge you for a lot of the additional attractions for the kids which isn't really on as they don't advertise this fact very well. So if you do intend visiting over the coming months do expect to pay out a lot more than just the standard ticket price. If we were in the area we'd still pay them a visit but take in to account the added cost.
  8. Pleased that the comments posted helped out
  9. This gets more and more exciting with each announcement. Do you think these guys will be the ride ops? Thi3teen ride op?
  10. just got this as an email video link from Alton Towers tonight: http://www.altontowers.com/2010/latest/ The delivery looks like a large component with a concrete base? Could it be some kind of video screen for the main building?
  11. Thanks for sharing these great photos. Brings back many great memories. I can still clearly recall being that impressed seeing the Lion King show we left the first performance of the day - ran right back round to see the second show of the day - very uplifting experience. Look forward to seeing your remaining photos and comments. Great shot of all of those strollers or pushchairs depending which side of the pond you live on.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXUPxBsapZ8 Thanks for dropping by
  13. Thanks - we should have done a video of the monkey's encounter with the wraiths, they made a very cool hissing noise when they get excited. Wonder if they'll still be around when the ride opens in March? Done some Googling and can't find any other photos of coaster riding monkeys.
  14. Thanks - monkey is rather a unique character - I think this maybe the first photo shoot of a 'PG tips' monkey on a coaster(s). We also have the benefit that he gets in the parks for free or at least at the moment until Merlin entertainment realise the new income stream - I can see it now Adults, Children and Monkey's.
  15. Interesting that you say that - we were just chatting that Chessington was one of the few UK parks we have yet to visit. Unfortunately this may have to wait until next season now. Flamingoland is our local park. Sidekick would like it there as they have lots of monkeys. You wouldn't believe how challenging it can be managing to get monkey on to some rides for obvious reasons. Obviously you have to always be aware of the safety aspects as we wouldn't want monkey to get hurt in any way, however the wraiths at Alton Towers did give us reason for concern - the sooner they get the new ride finished the better. Already planning our next trip in March - can't wait.
  16. Just for the record Sidekick is an original ITV Digital monkey so pre-dates the current PG tips version although we have a number of Al's as well. Haven't seen any other monkey on a coaster photos before so thought it would be an interesting photo opportunity. Thanks for the feedback. Maybe we should take monkey to Thorpe Park next. Alton Towers during Halloween was also great fun, the park closed at 9pm but we were still riding Rita at 9.45pm. On Halloween we had a full moon and a very clear night, that coupled with lots of ERT and some great guests in full costume made for a great day/night out. Terror of the Towers was brilliant this year although Field of a 1000 Screams and the Boiler Room were fun as well. We didn't take monkey in the Terror of the Towers - would have been a little extreme for him and he's not 14 yet.
  17. Monkey is now back in school with his classmates after a very busy Halloween with some of these pictures on the classroom notice board. Thanks for the feedback - the new ride looks like it's coming along nicely. The Wraiths were cool.
  18. Thanks for posting - question - is this the first record of a looping coaster? If so who built it and what happened to it? Very interesting link.
  19. Hello I'm Sidekick a school mascot from Whitley High School in the North East of England and for Halloween week I managed to get taken on a Scarefest trip to Alton Towers by some of my classmates. In the past I've been on holiday to Turkey and the Lake District and been to a wide range of rock and pop concerts but this was to be my first Halloween trip to a theme park - hope you enjoy my trip report - as you can see I had some interesting adventures. At the end of a long day I had a shower and an early night with my new bat friend I found on my travels - I think I quite like this theme park thing - thanks for dropping by Final shot of the new Demon of the Forest - the building is taking shape - role on March 2010. Oblivion full moon on Halloween night Submission looked a little shaky Really dig the theming on Nemesis Later on in the day I spotted this rather cool alien guy Also had an interesting walk in the woods Do not ride Oblivion after a banana smoothie lunch - not a good idea My fridge magnet photo shot Woo Hoo! Monkey on a big coaster! Now before you say I know I'm not 1.4m tall but I had to try this out - major monkey credit! Even though I'm only a few years old the nice people at Alton Towers let me drive my own tractor Looks like the pirate ghosts were out in force Instead I had a look in the new Sea Life centre After meeting the pirate guy earlier I decided to give this boat a miss Found this really cool - could have stayed on piggie all day. I'd have never been let on the ride without letting her have a go. Bet you've never seen a monkey riding a pig before? To calm me down I had a ride on the carousel All of my mates failed to defend me from the wraith and look where they eventually found me. They had to pay a fortunate on the side shows to get enough points to win me back. Help - Wraith attack!!! Argh!! Someone appears to have spotted me taking pictures Cool graphics Shot of the lift hill Main building structure If this is the water feature I'm not riding it Station Decided to check out the new ride build everyone keeps going on about OMG - no restraints Someone suggested I try out Enterprise Up, up and away... Next decided to go for a more traditional monkey swing My first credit - yippee - OK I know it's the Beastie; what do you expect I'm a 15 inch monkey! This guy wanted me to go on a boat ride but I said I preferred coasters The traditional pumpkin shot Here's a picture of me and my official helper for the day - the one without the hoodie! My day started with a quick photo shoot with some of the park staff. My Halloween get up
  20. It does? Care to show me where? Did you try the link? It very specifically says: "Want to find out more about our new World-first attraction opening March 2010?" This kind of very clearly highlights that the new coaster will have some specific new element not available before.
  21. Interesting observation - the track looks very similar but not sure if SW6 has intended water elements? I think this will be a more one off build hopefully with some unique elements not seen before. Can't wait for my next visit to Alton Towers end of October to check out construction.
  22. Words fail me after viewing this video: F is the magnitude of the gravitational force between the two point masses, G is the gravitational constant, m1 is the mass of the first point mass, (the left one) m2 is the mass of the second point mass, (the right one) and r is the distance between the two point masses. (not much room for maneuver by the looks of things) Never seen such an interesting example of Newton's laws before. Thanks for sharing.
  23. Great trip report and really enjoyed viewing your entertaining video. You should really try SAW its great fun. Shame that Stealth was out of action - bit of a one trick wonder but a must ride all the same if you get the opportunity. Loved your video effects demo. Thanks for posting.
  24. Had to pick revolution is it was my first inversion many years ago.
  25. If you had to pick one water park - Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach which one would you go for and why? I love the wave at Typhoon Lagoon but unfortunately not had the chance to try out Blizzard Beach. Are the two parks around the same size? Would be interested in views on the two parks -thanks.
