TR: Knott's Berry Farm 3-14-09
Rollerman87 replied to rcdude's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Hi. Which one of you had the TPR sweater with the ACE shirt on? I'm the guy from Pony Express that did the Elmo spiel Glad you had a good day! -
Going in to full fledge mix up. I want to Geauga Lake during its last operating season, and one of their shirts said Geauga Lake, but clearly had a silouhette of the famous Intamin hyper coaster to the north.

Rock'N'Roller Coaster
Rollerman87 replied to bhslhs's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I don't know if Disney is openly affiliating with Intamin AG, but I know Intamin disowned California Screamin' because Disney did some "in house" tweaking that screwed up the ride. Maybe a similar thing happened with the Rockin' Roller Coaster. -
I used to be terrified of coasters. I waited 45 min. for my party that went on Riddler's Revenge during my first trip to SFMM. I chickened out on Xcelerator my first time there when it opened as well. Then I went on 'em and found them amazing. Now, I don't scared of coasters. I went on TTD with only a little fear on the launch section. But yeah, I feel the little things now too, like the Canyon Blaster at Circus Circus' Adventure Dome is an awesome coaster, but there is a part when you tun to go into the corkscrews that the top wheels jump off on the track, leaving the upstops to handle business. Scary awesome airtime!

Those guys were hell during the Haunt. If we had a problem at the ride, we'd call and they would show up 20 minutes later, talk amongst themselves, and then get around to asking us what the problem was. By then, of course, whatever has happened is long gone.

Six Flags May Not Survive 2009...
Rollerman87 replied to sfmmrules!'s topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I personally believ that that, like mentioned before, the company may sell a few of their smaller parks, or their extra land, but I believe we might see more rehabs and clean ups taking place. Now they are really going to look at the parks and figure out how they can get more people to come. Obviously, for SFMM, they would have to try and clean up the horrible rep they've collected over the years about it being "banger" territory. Or the big guys can pocket all the cash and run for it, leaving us sobbing as the banks get the parks and they bulldoze the rides to the ground -
B&M Lift Catwalks
Rollerman87 replied to Eric_Smith's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'd guess the catwalks having only side have to do more with park operations than with cost. If you have a ride that is stuck on the lift, you would have to send up employees (probably a mixture of Ride Ops, Maintenance, and Supervisors). If you have 1 set of stairs, you send up less employees, and, more importantly, you have better controlled over freaked out guests. 1 catwalk equals one way to control the flow of traffic. -
Knott's Ghost Rider
Rollerman87 replied to vdoefx's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
First, stop blaming Knott's! Cedar fair is running the park into the ground. Second, I too hate that ride, but I talk to so many that love it still. But then again, these are the same people who say Silver Bullet is the greatest coaster ever built (roughest B&M I've ever been on). Ghostrider is rough as hell, but after the rehab back in November, it got some smoothness back. Apparently it warped again -
I'm a Roller Coaster Junkie Song!
Rollerman87 replied to Xtreme_Gz's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I love this song! It sticks in your head, but isn't quite to the point of being annoying Maybe that's because I can realte to the song though -
The thing that gets me is how the article kinda bashes the ride op. I'm not saying he was super responsive to the situation, but I know if that were ahppen on one of my rides at Knott's, I would have tried to reach first aid first, simply because I'm not sure if the in park phones reach outside the park. 911 might not do anything on a park line. Calling a supervisor, however, could get the whole park knowing what the problem is.

No Pictures Allowed ???
Rollerman87 replied to cathyJ's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I know with any of the Haunts, the park ups security bigtime, so I'm not surprised about some bigheaded parttime rent-a-cop telling you that. For the regular season, though, that is weird. I've taken a ton of pics and vid at SFMM, Knott's, USH, Cedar Point, and Geauga Lake and all those without a problem. I know as an employee of Knott's that I cannot take pics back stage, but even then, I have seen employees take pics back stage of props and stuff and no one says anything. Weird -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
Rollerman87 replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
I know. But the best woodie that I've personally ever been on is Colossus, which is pretty sad. Trust me, I'm wishing Terminator helps me turn my opinion around about wooden coasters. -
Track Spottings!
Rollerman87 replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I think that's number 18 for SFMM. They're just gonna drive that park into debt to get the latest B&M. Terminator is just the pre show -
Six Flags Magic Mountain Terminator Salvation: The Ride
Rollerman87 replied to robbalvey's topic in Photo Trip Report Archive
Woohoo! It's vertical! I must say, I hate woodies pretty badly, due to bad experience (Ghostrider, Meanstreak, Big Dipper (geauga lake), and Villain), but I cannot wait for this baby! It already looks quite beautiful. -
Best B&M Inverted Wheel cover Art
Rollerman87 replied to pkdcoaster's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
^Hey, Knott's isn't that bad. We try... well, some of us do. But, I must say that Bullet is the worst B&M I've ever ridden. But we didn't need a B&M in the first place. It's suppossed to be a family park, not a thrill park. Be angry at Cedar Fair, not Knott's. But anyways, enough ranting. I looked at the Katun casings again, and they are nice, but way over the top, especially when the rest of the train looks like crap... or well, stone. -
-Line Jumpers -People who complain to Ride Ops about a line jumper AFTER the jumper has ridden. -People pushing on the loading gates -Smokers in line or near the ride (It's hard to enforce the "designated smoking areas" during a special event, ie Haunt, but at stay away from where a majority of the guests are). -Parents who complain that their kid is too small, making me feel like the bad guy -Overweight people who can't get on the ride, so them and their 7 equally oversized friends get out of the seats you just painstakingly spent 5 minutes putting them in (La Revolucion) -Ride Ops who don't know how to be efficient -People who complain about 1 train operations when the line never exceeds 10 minutes. -People who wear Disneyland apparel to our park (I know we're not as good, but some of us do try and make it a great day) -People who get up to a ride and complain that a ride is closed, when it's posted in the front of the park If you haven't guessed, I am a Ride Op. And I do love my job.

Worst Themed ride you have been on?
Rollerman87 replied to kenshinmac's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Disaster Transport at Cedar Point! When I went Summer of '07, there was absolutely no theming whatsoever. Although, the queue theming was amazing. The ride: huge letdown after queue. -

Weirdest Things The 'GP' Have Said
Rollerman87 replied to maliboomer's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I've been on a few log flumes, and have never seen one with a turntable station. This is one for anyone that went to the Knott's Haunt. I am a ride op and was standing at Hat Dance. Someone came up to me and asked, "Where is Quarantine?" I had to keep from laughing when I said, "Right behind you." Same thing happaned with Cornstaulkers. People walking around with maps would walk back to Dragon Swing, realize it wasn't there, and then turn around. I had gotten a bit of maps this year (to keep in my pocket for a visual guide for people) and the map was not difficult to read. -
What's wrong with Knott's?
Rollerman87 replied to Fredlv1's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I was seacrhing for something else and ran across this. I just want to share how it is as a very new Ride Op to KBF. I work in Fiesta to let you know. First and foremost, they do not treat us like crap. Yes, it's low wages and strict rules, but it's not that bad, Granted, the Fiesta Ride Ops are almost like a family, and we do have fun, but I can't speak for every area's Ride Ops. As for decline of rides, all I'll say is that they simply need a little TLC. Everyone sees when they look at Xcel, but all the rides could use a bit. For Fiesta, I totally disagree with a few of the earlier remarks. For one thing, Jaguar is one of my favorite rides in the park. It offers a fair amount of airtime for such a "small" coaster and it's one of the longer coasters in the park. Plus, like Superman at SFMM, it's the only indoor queue, which means air conditioning! (Closest thing to a dark ride that KBF has anymore). Also, it's not Revolucion they need to remove. Anyone can see the other rides are in worst shape, and on an average day, most Fiesta rides are hop on (ask djsnow). I've been both pre and post CF, but I was too young to remember the pre-CF era. I can say today that everyday I'm off and in the park as a guest, I walk around Ghost Town and find it intriguing. It still holds good atmosphere, and it seperate enough from everything to still feel "natural." Apparently, GP are GP. I would definitely tell you some stories, but I got that little NDA thing to worry about. So with that, KBF has declined, but not as much as people say.
