  1. Thanks Jon. I'll correct my captions. I knew there was a good reason we were considering you to be a minion to the Overlord.
  2. I doesn't look like this has been posted previously, a scene by scene description of the Little Mermaid ride. The article also states that a version of the ride will be installed at the Magic Kingdom in 2013, which I didn't realize. Scene by Scene description of Little Mermaid ride from LA Times The remaking of Disney California Adventure will continue in 2011 with the debut of the $100-million Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, a family-friendly, E-ticket dark ride that will take visitors on a musical underwater journey themed to “The Little Mermaid” animated movie. Inspired by the Dragon Gorge scenic railway at the long-gone Ocean Park amusement zone in Southern California, the new Little Mermaid ride building has a dramatic arch that will feature relief carvings of frolicking mermaids and King Triton. Nautically themed glass work and tile work is designed to blend with the 1920s and ’30s seaside amusement park motif of the surrounding Paradise Pier area. Inside the building, riders will board pastel-colored, clam-shell-shaped PeopleMover vehicles similar to the Haunted Mansion’s “Doom Buggies.” (You can take a point-of-view trip through an early concept of the Mermaid ride, which is featured in the DVD extras of the 2006 special-edition movie Scene 1 — The loading area features a panoramic mural with all the main movie characters and a seaside castle. Scene 2 — Audio-animatronic versions of Sebastian the crab and Scuttle the seagull set up the ride’s back story. Scene 3 — A blast of cold air and a visual illusion make riders feel as if they are submerging underwater as the clam shell vehicle descends into the heart of the dark ride. Scene 4 — Riders pass through Ariel’s treasure-lined mermaid grotto with sidekicks Sebastian and Flounder as the song “Part of Your World” plays. Scene 5 — Sebastian conducts an audio-animatronic orchestra of sea creatures in the ride’s main showroom to the tune of “Under the Sea.” Scene 6 — In Ursula’s lair, riders pass under menacing rock work as henchmen eels Flotsam and Jetsam lurk nearby during the villainous sea witch’s big diva musical number “Poor Unfortunate Souls.” Scene 7 — The clam shell vehicle appears to ascend from the ocean depths. Scene 8 — Ariel and Prince Eric kiss on a rowboat to the strains of “Kiss the Girl” as geysers spout water. Scene 9 — The spell-breaking kiss drives Ursula mad as “Love’s First Kiss” plays amid gathering storm clouds. Scene 10 — The “Happily Ever After” finale scene has been kept a closely guarded secret by Walt Disney Imagineers. Scene 11 — Riders unload as Ariel and Eric stand atop the castle, King Triton salutes them from the water and Sebastian waves goodbye.
  3. The journey from Movieland Studios to the Colesseo Hotel at Europa Park was our longest drive of the trip. The ride through the Swiss Alps was picturesque and included some of the world's longest tunnels. Just so people could claim Switzerland as a country credit we stopped for dinner. OK, we stopped for dinner in Switzerland because European coach drivers have restrictions on how long they can drive continuously, but don't ever let facts get in the way of a good story. Even though we got to the hotel late, that didn't stop some people from exploring the resort's bars. Europa was one of my favorite parks after the last visit in 2008 and the addition of Blue Fire and Whale Adventure only makes the park more complete. This this time spent a full day at the park and a couple of hours the following morning. LDV watches over you as you sleep This incredible facade serves as a viewing area to watch the fountain show. Unfortunately the fountain show was toned down as a lot of electrical equipment was in the courtyard for World Cup viewing. From the front entrance of Hotel Colesseo you can see the other Europa hotels. Michaelangelo painted the ceiling of the Hotel Colesseo. It's true, I read it on Wikipedia. Looking up at the higher floors of the hotels from the lobby. After ERT on Blue Fire (if you want to see Blue Fire pictures check out Hanno's thread) Robb and the site moderators were treated to a backstage store. At many European parks the workers travels through the parks on bicycle. Derek goes BOING! It must be love. and even though Piers was hungover he got a wetty when he saw this. If you are driving in Germany and see a Rettungsdienst in your rear view mirror, let him pass. Behind the scenes shot of Poseidon. Hi, BeemerBoy! Poseiden water coaster POV A true water "coaster" look at all the track. A Mack Mad House with a surprise. Boobs Ryan and Lou about to have a throwdown. A bad picture, but these three idiots jumped off those rocks right into the water, no more than 7 feet from Atlantica Supersplash's track. This Renee's bag, I took a picture of it for a reason, but now I don't remember why. 1/3 Larry + 1 Lou + 1/2 Scottish Steve = (I don't have a witty answer) 1,300+ pounds in a log. Alfredo and Russ enjoying the rapids. EuroMir - I like it, some love it. Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto! Big Orange! One Thousand Flowers couldn't cheer up this duo. Scottish Steve practicing "The Robot" Europa is such a huge park that even after two full days at the park you can still find things you have never seen before like this bench. and the workshop where it was made. While others rode EuroMir again I explored some buildings right near EuroMir that housed the workshops of Russian craftsmen. One guy was making "Russian Mastroschka". I don't make this stuff up. This guy was making stained glass and there were a couple of other craftsmen also. This little guy drank too many JagerBombs last night. Lastly, I'll leave you with a huge foosball table. Next stop is Olympia Looping at the Wurzburg Fair.
  4. My bad, it sounded like you were indicting Sea World. However, I don't understand why your excitement has greatly faded. You should be overjoyed to be visting and supporting a theme park that supports conservation efforts. If you read an article about a child dying are you also upset about visiting someplace where there may be healthy children? I'm just not following your logic and why you should let one incident negatively affect an experience that should make you happy. Sounds like a miserable way to approach life. Oh well, to each his/her own.
  5. If you are implying that Sea World ins like all the aquariums in the world, you are being mislead. You also should learn to get information from balanced sources and not just ones that are looking to promote their own agenda. Ingorance is dangerous! Just look at this atrocity - Just terrible isn't it?
  6. Dave - don't let the lack of responses discourage you from posting. A lot of posters on the site prefer to argue about new paint and what parks "deserve" versus commenting on history and content. Besides, would it really make you feel better having dozens of people post comments like "looks great I wish I could have vistied"? Keep on posting!
  7. You can all stop holding your breathe, the next installment is here. The bus pulled up to Movieland Studios in the morning and I had full intentions of hanging out at the park for 60-90 minutes and then heading to the waterpark. However, the park had some unique rides and when coupled with less than stellar operations I needed more than 90 minutes and decided to spend the whole day at the park. Horror House was one of the longest walk throughs I've ever done, U571 is the oddest (and wettest) simulator and Magma 2 Studio Tour is something you'll never see in America. In the end I'm sort of glad that Cobra never opened at Connyland or else I would have missed most of this park. I figure it is about time that I started a post with a proper park entrance sign. Do you want to know what everyone is standing around looking at? Well they are all just trying to stand in the only shaded place area outside the park entrance. This shows an example of the park's less than efficient operations. Powered Coaster - Whoop - De - f'n - Do Erik - I was amused in watching the World Cup finals as the commentator was a former Dutch player who pronounced this word the same as you when referring to Paul the Octopuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuus Not only did they serve me the worst pizza ever, they are using Tom Wopat's image without his permission. My mom's cousin's ex-wife's brother golfs with Tom's former nanny's father. Magma 2 presented by Lou! The Brontojet was not ready for us to ride, but that's OK, all's well. I love the detail that went into the theming of the dinosaur themed flume. The parks has about a half dozen famous cars from film and movies. However, if you read the plaques on the cars it is clear these models never appeared on film. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! On the Magma2 Tour the driver takes this ramp way too fast to ever be allowed in America. No silly, it's not really toxic, it's just water. What's that white thing I see from the monorail? Oh it's the simulator where you sit in an unstable environment and get sprayed with a garden hose. Nuns just want to have fun!
  8. ^Dave - thanks I'll use The Rage sign and the old Scooby Doo vehicles. Still hoping someone snaps a picture of The Rage in mid-swing and the new "Boo Blaster" ride vehicle sometime this summer.
  9. ^I'm not a big fan of EuroMir or EuroSat. One ride is all I need. So true, Hanno needs to focus on taking more of these photos and less pictures of me making strange faces.
  10. Jason - My plan was to hit up the water park, but Movieland Studios was better than expected and most rides had a 30 minute wait. Derek - thanks for the heads up in your PM. iSpeed surprised me because I hadn't read any reviews before I rode it.
  11. Davon - I just got around to looking at your PTR, nice pictures.
  12. ^Damn, I should have called you. If only I had a working cell phone. On the morning of June 29th we boarded a bus for Mirabilandia. Like many on the group I was very impressed with the theming and beauty of the park. Robb and Elissa arranged for V-Pass' for the Group. This Lo-Q system serves like a Gold Q-Bot but instead of a merge point before the queue gates, you board right on the rides directly in front of the people that expect to be on that same ride. The park has a great 1-2 coaster punch in Katun and iSpeed. Katun is now my second favorite invert after Nemesis, I know others on the trip are in agreement on this. Another very memorable ride at the park was the Splash Battle that was akin to having a water balloon fight with someone from 10 feet away. Unfortunately some OCD riddled participants conquered the park too quickly and in a group vote resoundly elected to leave the park an hour early and go back to Gardaland a little earlier. While Gardaland is a nice park, Mirabilandia is far superior and I can't imagine any coaster enthusiasts having more fun in 60 minutes Gardaland than another 60 minutes riding iSpeed or Katun. Enough editorializing and on to the pictures. As I said earlier we had these things, but we had to break off into groups of four and there were 10 people in our group. At this point TPToomuchhair tried to take charge in finding two additional people to increase our group to a multiple of four. But I realized that Dave's strategy of approaching groups of three people to find two people to join us was not going to work. So even though Divv is clearly the leader of the Brit Crew, I made the free agent pick-up of the trip by signing Cory and Dominique to the Brit Crew. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of the two of them, so this will such to suffice. Somehow I reverted back to my old ways of not taking pictures of coasters. So I present two nerds taking a picture of my #2 invert, Katun. Even though we had the V-Pass' we also had ERT on Katun before the park opened. This coaster is as good as its' sign. I concede this is not as good as World of Color. Elissa jokingly admitted bad parenting skills, allowing Kristen to ride this rough mouse. But in reality, Elissa is a fantastic mom. While the rest of else rode Ghostville, Scaredy Steve played "bag lady." The Music Express has a personality disorder and thinks it is a caterpillar. You can see the canopy in the background. Proud Mary keep on burnin' Robb decides to graze in a field while checking his iPhone. I'm not grazing. I'm surveying my kingdom! This duck has a yellow bill, it is not a beak. Don't worry KT, it's not the real Statue of Liberty. and these are not real Space Shuttles. Crooked station for the powered coaster. European parks have a penchant for theming spinning tea cups to cannibal cauldrons. Dinosaur egg monorail was cool. Someone mentioned that this ride gave good airtime but I didn't ride. "Main street" area and site of the fateful vote to leave early. Sorry for the lack of quality photos this go around.
  13. Already being discussed Please use this thread
  14. Steve - Look at it this way, with my awesome travel skills I made it to two different airports in two hours Chuck - Yes, I'm a pizza snub and wouldn't go near the pizza cone Eric/Melissa - I didn't know the laser/water/fire show existed until I stumbled upon it when trying to get one last ride on Ramses Lou - Yes, I fail for not pointing out the Condor, it was semi hidden and hard to see behind some trees. Then I double failed in having to ride one alone at the last park of the trip. And thanks for saving all my dull pictures.
  15. ^Thanks Beeja, it was nice meeting and speaking with you, also. No need to use the word mister when addressing me. "Dear Overlord" will work. A new page, another bump. If you have photos of the following feel free to submit them. If the below rides are still on the list when you travel to the park feel free to take a picture and submit it. Remember photos must be .jpg should not exceed 800x600 (Unfortunately, in the past many people have submitted photos that are too large for TPR to use or in pdf form.) High quality photos, please (not blurry, distorted or out of focus). Lastly, we are not adding kiddie rides or major upcharges at this time, but we are at the point where family rides such: transportation rides, carousels, ferris wheels and bumper cars are being added. We are also not adding FECs (Family Entertainment Centers) to the Park Index. And if you have to ability to scan your park maps, feel free to submit those for the years that all not already in the Park Index. Of course any PTRs containing superior photos or entertaining captions and a variety of pictures including multiple rides and areas. (Not just one or two rides/attractions) are always valued. Attention has been given to every previously submitted Photo TR. Don't feel discouraged if we can't include every one. Photo in your PTRs must be downloaded onto the Theme Park Review server (not Imageshack, photobucket) for it to be included in the Park Index, that way we know a Red X will never appear. Lastly, if you have photos of a non-kiddie ride that is not in TPR's Park Index, please submit that also.
  16. Joe - TPDave is fun to hang out with at parks, you used to be that way, years ago. EB - It will be worth the wait to see the pictures from the solo portion of my trip. I took a lot of pictures and think I captured the enhance of the parksm Benny - that is correct, Spongebob 4D now occupies the Time Voyagers building. Brian - funny thing is when I took that picture I thought it was Ryan, Dave and yourself, so I had to come up with a new caption. Yes, I do think of captions when I take photos. I should have Mirabilandia posted tonight.
  17. ^thanks. I'm planning to keep it updated on the regular basis as long as people keep commenting and enjoy it.
  18. The next morning those going on the Europe trip got up real early to catch a flight to Milan on the World's Favourite Airline. After a 3 hour flight and 3 hour bus ride we arrived at Brunoland, em I mean Gardaland. Bruno only works there. Bruno greeted TPR with a complimentary drink and light snacks at the hotel. We were also outfitted with a two day ticket along and a Gift Pass that provided one-time front of line access for each coaster on July 28th. Although some people (I won't give names), were not smart enough to use the pass on the 28th and had to wait 45 minutes for Blue Tornado the next day. Way to go Anth! Gardaland was surprising better themed than I expected. Gardaland is making improvements with a new haunted walk through attraction for 2010 and a new coaster installation next year. Unfortunately, that means Tunga the Ape Man and Canyon Creek were been removed (although they live on in the Park Index). But the park still has a very good dark ride in iCorsari and a Vekoma Mad House with a unique beginning. It is unfortunate that with Italy's weather the park's water rides are not wet. I also found the food at the park to be excellent and this wasn't the case at all Italian parks. These pictures consist of visits from both July 28th and 29th. Reception that Gardaland threw for TPR upon arrival at the hotel. Luckily this will be the last country where we have to witness TPHairball Although I did not ride this one, I love Huss Condors. A relaxing ride on the Flying Island but it appears TPCousinIt has developed a "lou"mor. Requests have been made for more pictures of me in my PTRs. I don't know why! Golden Boobs Worst coaster idea ever! Cory petitioning to join the "Tat Pack" I hear that Bruno played a big part in retheming this into a shooting dark ride. But Italians brag a lot so who knows. Prego! mmmmmmm! Crepes! mmmmmmm! The wackiest worm of all-time. Looks like someone got a Red Ryder BB Gun for Christmas. Camera whore! The only time it is acceptable to refer to a respectable English lady as a whore. I did not sample the Pizza Cone. Someone call the Polizia. A Shriner has kidnapped the park mascot. TPBirdNest turns to admire James' lack of hair. Prego! The half price rack after Italia's World Cup stinker. I don't know if any other TPR members stayed til park close to catch the L'Occhio di Ramses show with colored water fountains, lasers, music and FIRE! Suck that, World of Color!
  19. ^I recognize that guy in the background from Lake Winnie.
  20. Do you realize that quality flat rides take people away from the coaster lines, making for shorter ride times on the major coasters?
  21. Jason - nice meeting you at Thorpe, looking forward to continued updates from you and thanks for thinking of the Park Index.
  22. There were only 3-4 on my train at the end of ERT. I had no idea who was on the other train. On the brake run, I could count the number of dangling legs diminishing as ERT progressed but had no clue who was on the other train. Regarding my post trip. I was solo and will provide a detailed itinerary after this thread is complete in case anyone wants to replicate. It was easy to execute, but took a lot of pre-planning and preparation (knowing where to leave luggage, train schedules and maps) to run smoothly. I was without a mobile device for the trip so I ended up carrying a binder was about 80 printed pages so I would be prepared for missed connections and always have directions.
  23. Yes, Grimaldi's is awesome. But it's is very hard to find free parking in that area though.
  24. I haven't ridden the Cyclone in two years, but they allowed single riders last time I was there. However they will try to pair single riders together if a single rider is waiting and the seat next to you is empty. Deno's Wonder Wheel Park is a seperate park from Luna Park. If you like flat rides the wrsitband is worth it at Luna Park.
