I love how the POV lists the forces throughout the ride for us nerds. -
Kemah Boardwalk I was trying to figure out how to cram Kemah Boardwalk into my December Texas trip figuring it would be on weekend only operations. But much to my surprise, it was actually open on weekdays still and it was an absolute ghost town. As a result, I was able to marathon Boardwalk Bullet to my heart's content. While that ride was fully staffed all day with two operators, the other rides had a limited quantity of rotating ride ops, which was completely justified given the crowd levels. Adding Kemah Boardwalk onto my Texas trip was one heck of a detour, but Boardwalk Bullet was worth it. I only got two rides on this wood coaster back in 2018 due to crowds and time, but this time I got well over two dozen rides on this Gravity Group creation. It's impressive Gravity Group crammed a coaster of this scale into just one acre of land. This ride may be one of the finest layouts ever made given the available space. Boardwalk Bullet is running like a dream. I rode Boardwalk Bullet both during the day and night. And with full trains and empty trains. And it ran consistently regardless of the time of day or train load, which was great to see. The ride is remarkably smooth despite its twisted layout and PTC trains. The ride has many pops of airtime. The large drops are incredible in the back row, but I prefer the ride up front since the airtime is more consistent start to finish. The coaster also feels ridiculously fast because of all the near-misses and it seems to go on forever. It just barely missed my top 10 wood coaster list. 9 out of 10 The rest of Kemah Boardwalk is a compact cluster of flat rides, many of which are from Chance. The best flat ride is the Drop Zone drop tower, which is one of those intense Larson/ARM towers with a powerful drop. It also helps the ride offers a great view of Galveston Bay. The only ride I wasn't able to experience that I wanted to was the Observation Tower. This ride was closed in my 2018 visit and it was down for maintenance this visit, although it was testing non-stop all-day. I imagine the views of Boardwalk Bullet and the bay are incredible. The one other ride of note is the park's train. Kemah Boardwalk is more than just an amusement park. It's a full-fledged entertainment complex with a hotel, shops, and restaurants. The train ride gives a tour of the entire complex and it even includes a themed tunnel with a shootout. I was not expecting that! While Kemah Boardwalk alone may struggle to fill an entire day for coaster enthusiasts, Boardwalk Bullet is a coaster well worth the trip.

Your meals count for the entire calendar day regardless if you have two separate tickets. So it sounds like the same situation as Great America and Hurricane Harbor. Overall, yesterday was fantastic. Despite the extremely windy conditions, Great Adventure had almost everything open except Kingda Ka, Zumanjaro, and Sky Screamer. And most rides were running at full capacity. Nitro almost valleyed at a few points from the gusts, but the park just kept sending trains. For Power Hours, El Toro went down to one train to ensure they were fully loaded. Despite that, it wasn't more than a 10-15 minute wait and it was a walk on for the final hour. Most things were great, but I do have two issues. One was a policy used during Power Hours though. El Toro was loading front to back. If you wanted to stay on, you were allowed to fill in any open row. So the same group of people were able to sit in the back car for an hour straight and there was no way for anyone else to get that car unless they got up or El Toro got a full train of new riders. Neither happened for the last hour. I get why El Toro had to be front loaded at minimum, but a lot of people who wanted the back had no way to get it unless someone back there was kind enough to swap seats. One other warning for those looking at all-season Flash Passes. I purchased one for Great Adventure last fall that was good for the rest of the 2020 season and 2021 season. I deliberately purchased the all-season one (not the membership one) since my home park is Six Flags New England. This just meant I had to scan the original purchase barcode and it wasn't linked to a pass. This worked fine the 3 times I used it last year and the first two times this year. Yesterday, I was told I could no longer do that. Apparently, they waived the rule that the all-season Flash Pass can only be purchased for your home park while Six Flags New England was closed. Once they announced their reopening, I was told I either needed to get a full refund, switch my membership to Great Adventure, or buy a season pass for Great Adventure. I took the refund, but I wish there was a way the Six Flags system could allow the all season Flash Pass to be linked to another park's pass that isn't a home park.

Tomorrow Great Adventure is open 10-5 and then 6-11 for Power Hours. I separate reservations for each. Does anyone know if meal plans reset for Power Hours? I wasn't planning on going to Great Adventure tomorrow, but it looks too risky to go to Hersheypark with the winds. I saw Candymonium close last November when winds were in the 15-20 mph range and tomorrow is calling for 20-25 mph sustained winds with 40-50 mph gusts. Meanwhile I know Great Adventure is willing to play with fire as evidenced by that Nitro test run I witnessed last month when winds were approaching 40 mph on a cool 40 degree morning. Days like this are especially why I love Great Adventure.

The original plan was to hit Hershey on Friday for minimal crowds and then do Great Adventure on Saturday since I have the all-season Flash Pass. I agree Power Hour and all those night rides at Great Adventure sound awesome, so that's not a bad consolation prize. -

Has anyone had experience visiting Hersheypark on a windy day? I was hoping to visit Friday expecting low crowds, but the weather calls for 20-25 mph sustained winds and gusts of 35-40 mph. The back-up plan is a park two hours east that I know has zero cares in the world running things in any weather conditions. -

Hersheypark's official statement was that Storm Runner was closed in 2020 since they were waiting on a part that was delayed due to covid. -
In early 2019, Scandia Ontario closed their doors forever. The small park had some awesome mini golf courses, a few carnival rides, and most notably the Scandia Screamer, a giant Miler coaster with some frightening airtime and aggressive turns. The ride was sale for a few years, but it finally found a new home. Traders Village in Grand Prarie, Texas will be opening the Prairie Screamer this fall. Link to Traders Village SCREAMING INTO TRADERS VILLAGE FALL 2021, PRAIRIE SCREAMER, a family-oriented roller coaster that will be popular with all ages! • Drop 80 feet • Speed 50 mph • Duration 1:56 • 2 Trains with 10 riders per train Until this announcement was made, I honestly had never heard of Traders Village. But this place is less than 5 miles from Six Flags Over Texas and while it's mostly a flea market, it has a decent flat ride lineup, including a Larson drop tower. And rides cost just $3 a piece or $14 for an unlimited wristband. I will be sure to check this place out once the Screamer reopens because that coaster really surprised me.

Their dino event is slated to run through May 23. I suspect the latest they'd reopen the full park would be Memorial Day weekend, but I wouldn't be surprised if they start soft opening some rides for the dino event. This announcement was paired with Massachusetts relaxing its outdoor mask mandate. Now masks are only required outdoors if you can't physically social distance. I strongly suspect Six Flags will make them mandatory inside the park like they've done for their other parks and that would especially make sense given how long it took for them to finally reopen. Wicked Cyclone is a weird one. It seems to run better in the cold which is the opposite of how most coasters run. When it runs slow, the ride starts bleeding speed on the final lap. The ride still gives good airtime, but you'll feel a pause in between the elements.

I was able to book 3 days for Cedar Point; however, I had to do a separate "order" for each reservation. -

Good news for those looking to visit Canobie from out-of-state, New Hampshire no longer has the rule that anyone who used public transportation outside of NH, VT, and ME in the past 2 weeks is denied entry into the park. Realistically, I know most people probably said they didn't even if they did, but I decided to respect that rule last year to avoid getting the park or the employees I knew in trouble. In fact, I think the park assumed everyone would just say no to that rule. I tried contacting the park last year if a negative covid test could be presented as an alternative if I took public transportation and they said I was the only person who asked, so they had no clue if it was acceptable or not.
