The Official WEST COAST BASH 2013 Thread!
singemfrc replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Oh man if the headliners are just 30-45 this will be glorious! Certain ones will most likely be more like X2, probably Tatsu and Green Lantern, and possibly Riddler's Revenge. And those last two have single rider lines which can basically eliminate any wait time if you're by yourself or in a small group and don't mind not riding together. For anyone else going solo the full list of rides with SR lines are Viper, Revolution, Green Lantern, Riddlers, and Lex Luthor. For most you just go up the exit. Green Lantern and Riddlers' SR lines are a little more concealed. -

Im several pages behind at this point, but since this might be helpful to others, yes there's always the 10-15 min window that gold pass holders and Discover card members get in, so you could sneak into that time slot. They don't always open X2 early (frequently even if the ride is ready they will wait until there is a large crowd waiting before allowing you to enter the que) but if nothing else you could get to the front of the line for the first train. -

I'm curious why you think TTD is better than Ka (not that I disagree, until next month I wont have ridden either) I'm looking forward to riding TTD as my first accelerator on 9/8 and hopefully Xcelerator a few weeks later. Until recently I only stuck to California parks (except Knott's for some reason which I havent been to since 1985!). CP is my first out of state theme park trek, I'm hoping to do a couple per year from now on. -

Ka is 8mph quicker and 56ft taller so I think it makes sense that TT gets up the tower a little quicker. Ka = 128mph, 456 ft TT = 120mph, 400 ft -
^ I don't mind waiting 20 or 30 minutes since I don't get to visit the park often but if I come around the corner and see the line out the front I stop and turn around. I've heard it's the most expensive ride in the park to operate so I have a feeling that they are extra reluctant to run both sides due to the cost of doing so. Then again they never ever use the second side of Tatsu's station which only cost the hourly wage of the extra ride ops, so who knows.

^ X2's line tends to shorten in the afternoon where YC doesn't as much (although everything is relative, remember this is still an August Saturday) so if I had to pick I would definitely do YC first and hit X2 later in the day about 4:30 or so. For what it's worth I'm coming to the park on Saturday 8/31 with Gold FP so this is exactly what I plan on doing.

Yeah, I had the same traffic problem when I went from CGA to SCBB..never take the 880 into or out of Santa Clara. Strange that the park was so busy and the beach wasn't, stranger still that the Dipper was so busy they had temporary queues set up but still only one train running. -

If you go to the website and start to buy the passes you can select the day and it will tell you how much it is for that day. -

^ It's comfortable by any means, but it does at least stop the concussions and/or ear bleeding. Putting your hands up by your ears seems the thing to do but usually ends up with you basically punching yourself in the head..I've found that gripping the OTSR lower down by the neck keeps your head from moving back and forth and hitting the sides of the restraints. It really is extra sad on this coaster since these OTSRs are so unnecessary. -

I initially did that for other reasons, but it does work. I had a relatively non-painful ride on the outer seat of the front row that way. With most older coasters you should pay attention to the restraints, it can make a difference between painful and not painful. The only coasters that I find egregiously painful are Revolution, Kong, and X2. For Revolution and Kong I've figured out how to ride painlessly but it really goes beyond just correct use of restraints, its ridiculous. For X2 if you're on the outside seat there's no escaping it, it will be painful, there's nothing you can do. X2 is the only ride that I absolutely cannot ride more than once per day. -
I don't think it was a preemptive removal for safety, because youre right that if that was the case the ride would have been completely closed. I got the impression it was an unexpected failure of a part on one of the trains and that part has not yet failed in the other train. I don't think wear and tear is a possibility since the trains are so new. That being said I would assume that they would have ordered replacement parts for both trains, and while they continue to run the other train for now to avoid having to close the ride they will probably replace the faulty part in both trains as soon as they can.

The most recent one just passed: "Sunrise with SUPERMAN: On July 20, flash your Season Pass to enjoy exclusive access to SUPERMAN Ultimate Flight and receive a commemorative poster, starting at 9:30 a.m." The next announcement is July 31st, so the next ERT will most likely be on 8/3 or 8/10. Go to sixflags.com/discoverykingdom and sign up for the newsletter. Here you go they just announced it: Go Behind the Scenes of Shark Experience!: On Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., flash your Season Pass to receive a behind the scenes tour of Shark Experience. Hammerhead Exclusive Ride Time: Flash your Season Pass to enjoy exclusive ride time on Hammerhead from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 3. The Shark Experience backstage tour is a pretty unique perk, I like that. Hammerhead ERT..eh not so much.

Yeah, definitely agree here. Their operations overall seem to have been getting better although Tatsu is a serious blight (visually as well as operationally). Riddlers ops were drastically improved even with just the second train, before the third. Train 3 is just gravy. This isn't a situation with YC where they just decided to run 1 train because they didn't want to staff ops for a 2nd, or elected to have a train rehab in July, this was an unforseen breakdown and it sounds like that wasn't their fault either. Their options were run 1 train or close the ride. As Monte and rcdude said I can't think of anyone outside of Disney who buys extra trains just for parts and/or breakdowns, even in the most extreme example like Superman at SFDK which can only run one train at a time - there is no second train.

^^ I wouldn't take an adult on X2 as rough as it is right now (Unless it's a heavier adult that I'm using as my weight for the outside seat)
