What view do you have outside your office window at work?
ScOtT k replied to jumbach's topic in Random, Random, Random
If I work from home I look at some really nice mountains that still have snow on top! Out in the distance I can see the denver skyline. Yeah, I'm perched right on top of a mountain, it's a great lot. At my office I look out at another office building. -
I got a master in business administration, and got a bachelor in science. I'm now an accountant for visa dps. That's not quite what I was aiming for, but hey, it's a good job!

The wait is now over! Kingda ka is now open! I just read a report that it already has a 5+ hour wait, and the line has already been closed for the night, but it is open. http://www.sixflags.com/parks/greatadventure/index.asp

California screamin crash!
ScOtT k replied to ScOtT k's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Eh - I thought there might have been a topic somewhere. Sorry. -
This news is a little old, however, I noticed that no one had posted this yet, so I figured it would be good to put this up. ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Emergency crews treated 15 riders injured on a roller coaster Friday evening at Disney's California Adventure Park. Fire crews, ambulances and other emergency vehicles were at the California Screamin' ride, which features a 108-foot drop. Crews received the report at about 6:40 p.m. City spokesman John Nicoletti said 15 of the 48 people on the ride were hospitalized for treatment of minor injuries. Dear Diary, Oh. My. God. 7:00 a.m. is just an ungodly hour after one week on the road. And it doesn't help that my room at the Fairfield Inn is positioned right against the ice machine, which fills and empties and crunches and bangs every 5 minutes whether being used or not. Consequently I got no sleep at all last night, and today I am feeling the urge to rip the head off of the first person who speaks to me. So, I started out on the turnpike actually doing the speed limit. After about 5 minutes I realized that it was much safer to drive at 85 miles an hour. 2 drivers almost slammed into the back of my car! I was scared. My dodge neon rental car was a death trap! I made great time, the traffic was relatively light, and I was enjoying myself. So, I got off, and pulled up to a stop light, right next to the guy who almost killed me. He flipped me off and did an LIM launch to about 60 in a second! On the way to gadv I noticed a few signs for kingda ka. I pulled in and paid 9 bucks for parking. (that's what I think it was at least) I headed up to the entrance. It was 9:45, so I looked at kingda ka looming over the rest of the park, and the angry customers yelling about kingda ka. There was 1 man in particular who looked really upset. The customer service rep said that the ride was having a problem launching. The guy then shouted, "Why don't you fix it then!" So, I checked out the ride listings and saw that chiller and kk would be closed for the day. No real surprises there! I then headed to the entrance. It was 9:57 when they opened up the gates but we had to watch the looney toons do a dance do six flags' theme song. Once the gates opened I ran to nitro. Well, I waited 10 minutes for the front seat. Nitro is fantastic. I like the weird turns and the more challenging lines of the track. The airtime on it is fantastic, and rivals only apollo for airtime. Surprisingly, the queue time throughout the whole day was very short. The longest I waited was 30 minutes. They had 2 trains running and they weren't stacking them either! If they had added another train there wouldn't have been a wait at all. Another thing about this ride that I loved was how smooth it was. This is what every coaster should be like. Silky smooth and a pleasure to ride. After nitro I rode Batman the ride and waited about 20 minutes for the 4th row. Batman was good, and seemed a bit smoother then last time. Maybe the new paint job helped. After that I headed to skull mountain. I LOVED the design of this thing. The waterfall through the skull is just so cool. If I were a kid I would enter this ride very afraid, and come out a coaster enthusiast in the making. I rode in the back and enjoyed myself. The first drop was good and the rest of the ride was fun and even had some airtime. This ride would have been horrible if it didn't take place in complete darkness. After that I took the skyway over to medusa!! Medusa was good, however it seems to be aging poorly. I still liked medusa though. I waited 35 minutes for the 3rd row. Out of three of the four floorless versions I've ridden, I think I like this Medusa best. It has some of the intensity of the one in SFWOA, but I like the cobra roll better than Marine World's Sea Serpent element. I'm confused, I really liked it but I can't get my feelings out. I had fun on medusa and took a ride on the mine train. I loved this area of the park. It had a BIG feeling to it, much like the good old west. And the Mine Train at Great Adventure is awesome! It is second only to my namesake, SFOT's Runaway Mine Train. As we entered the helix our train inadvertently chased a mallard, which skimmed along the lake and flew *inches* in front of our train for the longest time! I walked over to Viper, which was closed, just to see what it looked it like. Well, all I saw was some footers and a few bits of metal. Rust in peace viper! After that I walked around the golden kingdom, looking at the animals and staring at kk. The golden kingdom is extremely well themed and it's a shame to see it's star attraction down. I walked over to SUF. The wait was half an hour. I had enjoyed the one at SFOG and I hoped that this was just as good. Well, It wasn't. I don't know why I enjoyed the one at sfog more. Maybe it was because it was my first flyer and I was scared. Maybe it was because I was because I didn't know the layout. Maybe it was because of the crazy pretzel loop that I had never experienced, or the location. GADV's feels slow and just slows through the elements after the pretzel loop. Another problem with the ride was the fact that there was no near misses. The restraints also became uncomfortable quickly while we were waiting for the next train to depart. Hmm... whatta letdown. I also tried a Nathan's Famous! They were excellent - I had a chili cheese dog and it was great. I like the "casing!" I headed over to Black beards lost treasure train to get my credit. It was surprisingly fun. I took a spin on nitro and decided I had to get GASM and rolling thunder over with. So I decided to ride rt first. Now I had heard what a mess this coaster is. I also heard all the names it's been called. What I hadn't heard about were the awesome ride ops. They were incredibly friendly and really seemed to enjoy their jobs and interacting with people. All day I encountered ride ops who went beyond professional in their attitude and efficiency. They were actually friendly, and none more-so than the ops on RT. The ride, unfortunately, was a nightmare. Not so much the ride itself, which really didn't feel that bumpy. But my God, the noise. THE NOISE!!! A terrible, horrifying screeching sound that snapped my very last nerve and continued to torment me throughout the entire ride. I was grateful not to be banged around as I expected, but there was no noticeable airtime on the ride at all, and the coaster seemed to just trudge down the track. It could not end soon enough. After I got off I was in a daze. Loud noises really bother me, but this experience made me sick. I went and got a cup of water for 10 cents (WTF? They charge for ice water) I sat at a bench under a tree for a while, and decided I had to hit a few more rides. I had to get my credit on GASM! The Great American Scream Machine stands proudly near the front of the park. I HAD to ride it just once, it looked so big and so fun. So I walked over and noticed they were running three trains, no waiting. Man, this park really has GREAT ride ops. Two kids riding in back of me asked about my coasterwear and one of them talked to me non-stop when he found out I was on a coaster vacation. This was a white kid riding with a black kid. Neither of them used foul language and they both were friendly and polite. Well, gasm is horrible. The first 3 loops were okay, but as soon as we hit the boomerang and corckscrews the ride went downhill. The train shook and bounced violently. My head felt like a ping pong ball! Ouch. After that I left gadv, satisfied with my day. I was extremely lucky! I didn't have to wait for anything! NEXT PARK: Dorney!

Hello. I'm Scott Kucharski. I've also been looking at this site for quite a while. It looks like a great place to discuss coasters! Here's a little background information about myself... I've been on 179 coasters. I enjoy visiting amusement parks all over the United States. I live in a small town up in the mountains of colorado (I'm about 50 miles away from denver) My home park SFEG has no good coasters, so I end up traveling quite a bit. Keep up the good work robb and elisa!
