  1. Of course it would run faster in the rain, the skid brakes would be too wet to slow the train to the "desired" speed. The magnets are more precise, and weather conditions don't affect them. (or rarely do) It's still a great ride, think of how many other park operators could have butchered the Beast.
  2. Well, if it's on the internet, it's gotta be true!
  3. SFoG has opened already. Does their B&M hyper have them this year? If not, then it might be a non-B&M decision.
  4. ^ At least not this year. It still says action zone on the 2014 map
  5. Just some track cutting, replacement and re-welding. Happens all the time. No worries.
  6. Marks page was updated with some more progress. The bunny hops are done as well as the bottom of the first drop. I have also shared his photos on my Roller Coaster Facebook page, if anyone is interested: www.facebook.com/pages/Roller-Coasters/350124005002048
  7. I'm pretty sure Kings Island got rid of their Gold Pass parking. The premium lot is still there.
  8. This may be unpopular with some, but I think it would be cheaper for the park to make their first major steel coaster out of their last wood coaster. "Voyage 2: The New World" and place 2 inversions into the circuit. I wouldn't be surprised if that idea is being explored by the park.
  9. Wait a minute, people. It doesn't at all sound like all the Kochs are gone from Holiday world. Pat and Bill had Five children: Will (deceased 2010), Phil (deceased 2012), Natalie, Dan and Kristie. All of them had a new generation of family growing up as each was married with children. It looks like Dan and Natalie have taken Pat and others down to Alabama, but Will's widow, Lori and their children as well as Kristie and her family will stay. I don't know this for sure, but the family is huge and both parks remain in "separate" Koch control. Paula could help us out on who is going where.
  10. The Quasars are okay, more interesting to watch than ride, but I kinda wished they chose something else. So many of their rides are "spinny", even the coaster.
  11. Remember, the post says "All Ages", so I think a ride is out of the question. I would suspect a new movie or show of some sort. "Banshee is not the only new attraction that our guests will be excited about this year. Be sure to check back tomorrow at 4:00pm for an announcement on something else that’s new this year that will appeal to guests of all ages!"
  12. The parks building Ring of Fire's are starting to add up. Some have been portable, (Clemeton, Wild Waves, Castle Park, Cliff's AP) but others are putting in ground-mounts: Galveston Pleasure Pier and Elitch. Larson is really making a name for itself in the parks now with the drop towers and Flying Scooters as well. Personally, I think a more interesting ride with higher capacity is a 2-Sweep Zamperla Hawk (think: Kennywoods Aero 360)
  13. Cedar Points next coaster will be a Rocky Mountain conversion of Mean Streak. Of course that is an opinion, but Cedar Point like to build similar rides (some, not all) to Great America, its closest major theme park neighbor owned by a different company. SFGrAm locals: Watch for Cedar Fair executives riding Goliath this year. I just have this feeling.
  14. Maybe they went with what works for them. It's worked for Arrow since 1959.
  15. Yeah, that Cemetery one is bad, but I think this one of Disaster Transport when the lift hill lights burnt out was worse.
  16. Now with these comments, I've got to ask: will we be seeing Cedar Fair be the only one removing them or will an equally big chain like Six Flags begin doing that as well? Time will tell, I suppose.
  17. Forgive me if this was brought up in the past, but I have been noticing a pattern the last couple of years and didn't think to mention it until now. I suppose it started in the late part of 2012 as Kings Island was rumored to be removing their tiny and unimpressive track (in my opinion) for an unknown project (Banshee). Then other rides began disappearing as construction started in other parks... Michigan's Adventure removed theirs for their Flyers and Beer Garden... Now going into the 2014 season, we see Valleyfair removing theirs and Worlds of Fun as well. I have yet to see construction photos of Carowinds, but could they eventually as well, since theirs sit directly in front of the now moved Skycoaster? Are operational costs just getting out of control or is it because 3 of the mentioned parks have lower attendance compared to their sisters? Or are Go Carts just not pulling in the bucks like they used to?
  18. Looks like Kings Island is adding a few days to its schedule and will be open until November 2nd. Cedar Point as well. https://www.visitkingsisland.com/hours-directions/kings-island
  19. Forgive me if this has been discussed, but what are they doing to the former "watertower" site? The concrete is all torn up, and it looks like they are digging out the old utilities. Wishful thinking: Plenty of room there for a Flying Scooter!
  20. ^ Thank you, Larry. You've made both arguments very legit as to why it most likely won't happen, which I will agree with. Though my post was purely wishful thinking based on their history to restore classics no matter the cost.
  21. The Knoebel's family is too smart to attempt either. Okay, you're entitled to your option, but please explain your answer further as to why, please.
  22. I would really like to see them rescue Big Dipper or Greezed Lighting from Astroworld
  23. ^ There's a lot of work going on with the Banshee station, but right now a lot of track placing seems to have slowed. On the topic of suspended. Flight Deck/Bat compared to Canada's Vortex feels much smoother and a bit more intense as there are more trees surrounding it. Big Bad Wolf was my favorite. Ninja is really good out there in Cali and another lost gem, Astroworld's XLR-8 was well paced and fun, and smooth. I only got one ride on it (going forward, as they had the train cars split facing forward and backward in the later years). Iron Dragon is okay and last on my list, but a decent length and a solid ride. It's just bumpy and it feels like it loses speed due to it, but I'm no engineer.
