  1. something taken from a news article from Toledo Blade: The only real debate among coaster enthusiasts is what type of coaster it will be. That has produced many volatile online arguments. "It won't be a skyscraper like Top Thrill Dragster," said Mr. Schmidt. The track put up so far has several inversions - twists that turn riders upside down - he added. "The most popular theory is this is an Aqua Trax," he said, which is a coaster set along a water theme. The new ride is next to Lake Erie. But others have argued it will be more like a new coaster Intamin is introducing near Barcelona, Spain. That features a track with a central car with two seats attached to each side. The riders' feet dangle and the cars may rock freely. Carole Sanderson, a Cleveland resident who is president of the American Coaster Enthusiasts group, said she knows what Cedar Point is building. In June, park officials told her their plans but swore her to secrecy. "They always introduce a unique ride and I believe it will be something we've never seen before," she said. The ride will have elements where the technology will be familiar, but will have the most of something, she hinted. "will have the most of something"? What? Burgers per drive-through??
  2. BTW: see the Intamin AquaTrax prototype in the background!
  3. I'm pretty sure there is a way to have sooo many barrel-rolls is a row that these will look like straight track from a distance.
  4. Ain't all this AquaTalk informative and accurate enough? We've seen way too many speculate on red Intamin steel track already...
  5. The Intamin prefab wooden AquaTrax-Hairdryer, that one is! 8)
  6. another speculatory feed (may take a while to load): http://coaster-net.com/parkgallery.php?action=displaymore&id=6&photographerid=13#displayphotos
  7. New track laid, for guess what... http://www.pointbuzz.com/project2007mv0829.htm
  8. That's the boat refill area. After all we know, it's an inside out Aquatrax even! Since you will sit right within the water (approximately up to your chest), these boats will spill a bit during their course (as well as due to fanboys splashing around...). The next riders naturally will want a boat that is refilled to its original level though...
  9. It's the helium filled track, strongly pulling upwards. That why there's so many screws to keep it from flying away. On the few spots where you see these screws tightened, there are automated helium refill pipes, entering from below...
  10. Well, here's my two cents! First of all, to tell you the background: I worked as a ride op for PKI on the beast rollercoaster for 2 years. In the control room for the ride, there is a readout of the speed of the ride at 3 points: The exit of the first tunnel at the base of the first drop, the 2nd tunnel after the MCBR, and the entrance to the helix tunnels. While operating with a full train, the speed at the bottom of the first drop would be around 67-69 mph, but when operating with an empty train the speeds would only be around 58-60 mph. The same correllation is true at the MCBR (although that is more to do with the magnetic brakes having less effect on the train when it is full as it moves faster through them) and the Helix. So although I understand your physics, my experience actually shows the opposite to be true: More weight = higher speeds. -James "am prepared to hear why I'm wrong " Dillaman You are perfectly right the way you describe it. My initial post is directed to all these fanboys out there who still think that a heavier train will give higher achievable speeds than the theoretical possible maximum. Many of these also believe that if a drop was steeper, the maximum achievable speed would increase too. Now that's the rubbish we are reading over and over in many roller coaster forums. For just these common misconceptions I used the "falling weights example" (although formulated), as pkdcoaster pointed out. What you are describing is just what I have called "keeping speed better", (or call it "keeping kinetic/potential energy"). And there is no doubt that effects of friction vs. weight do impact right from the train's release off the chain (or a launch), as your numbers clearly show. Nothing new, however often very misunderstood. I am well aware the differences between any theory & idealized behavior and how things come along in practice. Nevertheless you might not be able to classify any real life influence unless you are aware how some basic principle is influenced or even "distorted". Effects somewhat "add up" like with the construction of a house. You better start bottom up. For some out there (not you) i'd often want to say: "Don't talk about roofs in case you don't even know walls!" To my understanding we are both correct with our views.
  11. You might mix some effects. With a heavier train on a given track, a given start speed should be carried a longer time, since there is more inertia to overcome given friction. This might explain why an empty train will be slower towards the end of a ride than a fully loaded one. This, in combination with weather influence may change the character and *overall average* speed experience a lot. What i'm referring to is that indeed gazillions of coaster fans still believe that a heavier train will give "faster" speeds, which is not true. Once again: given speeds are kept better then, which is a very different effect. However, you will never be able to change the laws of gravitation by "always hearing something"!
  12. No! No! Train weight has absolutely nothing to do with the maximum speed that can be achieved for a given drop height. ideal drop: V² = 2*G*H or V1² = V0² + 2*G*H It's funny how these false assumptions come up every other week, it's even more funny that just these are proposed by dedicated roller coaster fans... well, "funny"? not really...
  13. Some people have got fat in their legs. Others have got it in their head!
  14. It's perfectly safe, for any of the available NL tools. So why not go there: http://www.nolimitsdevcenter.net/toolbox and do the reading about "what for, where, why & how much" by yourself?
  15. Hell, all this A***Tr*x discussion is getting really serious now... WASHINGTON DC, Aug. 37, 2006 - In an unsuspected move the IAAPA ( http://www.iaapa.org/ ) has filed an urgent request with the FCC ( http://www.fcc.gov/ ) to have two more words included into the list of the "seven dirty words" that may not be used in the public media. These two new four letter words, rumored as to refer to some obscene fluid as well as to a certain to be erected object, shall soon be banned from any public discussion. Experts say that the chances will be way better with this attempt than in 2003 when a group of fanatic coaster enthusia$$t demanded to have the word "T*G*" removed from the english language.
  16. It is and will be, just not in the way you might believe. Ride ops will be specially trained, hynotising park guests into believing it was either a 780ft rocket, a 17 looper, or an AquaTrax. There will be three q-lines for you to chose what kind of illusion you want to experience. People in the AquaTrax waiting line will have to listen to a repeating murmur of AquaBlah, as soon a they board the train, they already will believe it's a submarine diving Lake Erie. Forum Members are purposely adding to this thread in a certain manner. They started off by gathering all of the few information and rumors to bring up expectations. An Aquatrax suggestion showed up and it was awesome. There will be more, many more speculations. I doubt the way you are writing was the most humorous way to do so. My guess is I'll have lunch at around 6-7 PM, maybe have a dual lunch which would be awesome, and maybe have a unique dessert like icecream or something.
  17. I knew it! I just knew it! Go read yourself... SANDUSKY, Ohio, Aug. 34, 2006 – Current „Cedar Point“ will give guests a "double splash" – focusing on both thrills and family – when it debuts the world's tallest and fastest "double-washing" water roller coaster and a park renaming for its 2007 season. The new attractions will represent a 13 million cubic inch of fluid investment project at the famed amusement park/resort for the upcoming season. THE PARK: Due to obnoxious fanboy requests all over the world „Cedar Point“ will reopen as „Lotte Dot“ in 2007. Additionally, right from season start in 2007, park guests will get special discounts for arriving at the park in soaked pants, or permanently wearing life saver vests during the visit. THE COASTER: Named Maverick, the 13.4-foot-tall, 12-mph water roller coaster will launch riders 27 times into a new dimension of pond-hopping and will be Lotte Dot's 17th roller coaster, enabling the park to break its own world record for having more coasters than anywhere in Ohio, in particular more than Cedar Point ever. As so called "hosing" roller coaster, Maverick will use the advanced technology of liquid spill movers (LSM) to plunge riders out of the coaster's station – at a maximum speed of 12 mph in only a quarter of a minute! – Propelling forward and up and down a meandering track with spiraling fountains, Maverick will be the first and only coaster of its kind anywhere in Sandusky. "The 2007 season will be a dripping time at Lotte Dot – for both spill-seekers and swimsuit lovers," says Ms. Kin Gum, future vice president and general manager of Lotte Dot. "As our 17th coaster, Maverick will reinforce Lotte Dot 's reputation as the world's rider soaker capital with a brand new type of family embarassement."
  18. Great find. I think the music perfectly fits the message. Just a few dumb chords, a lagging and boring beat, default chorus as usual, bumpy rhymes that don't always follow the rythm, a senseless blown up arangement, overall as unimaginative as can be imagined. Just like that crap the music industry is trying to sell as latest greatest hits.
  19. Working fine, technically. Stuttering a bit, therefore some farting noises in sound transmission...
  20. Yes you can. IMHO you are raping the original idea of NoLimits. It was intended as a rollercoaster simulation, and not at all for cluttering people's disks with tons of objects, by that way killing any reasonable framerates. Also from your post it sounds like you "just got that idea" but won't really want to contribute yourself. How can you assume that someone will put serious effort into any such "project", if there is none of your own? I personally think this is flawed from the very beginning. P.S. ever heard of Roller Coaster Tycoon?
  21. Yes, it would work. BUT: since you need (almost) twice the time for rotating the train around it's axis, this will demand a realitively high hill, taken with great speed and ascended (and descended) quite steep. They could (and should!) have done just that on Kingda Ka...
  22. So, you'd have even more fun with two launches on that one?
  23. The G-forces in the corkscrews will be so extremely high that people automatically will be pressed flat to the car's floor, plus that these aqautic wheel assemblies give away a lot. Also, Riders will be given the ability to steer around possible support hits all by themself. So this ride will be quite safe for experienced coaster drivers, at least. http://www.coaster-net.com/pics/cedarpoint/project2007043_carstenanderson.jpg It's the new Intamin SDC style: steer, duck and cover.
  24. As we can clearly see on this pic, this coaster will dip right into a pond. For those still denying it the character of a true water ride, there now is undisputable evidence: the first car has arrived! http://www.coaster-net.com/pics/cedarpoint/project20070110_carstenanderson.jpg
  25. CSI == Cedar Point Scrutinized Irritation? BTW: I'd suggest CP putting up the second corkscrew today. And in case they don't want to, oh well, never mind...
