  1. Thanks for the heads up on Train C. What does it look like, so I know?
  2. I love airtime, so usually I like to sit in back of coasters. Any advice on where to sit for Toro and Nitro? If Kingda Ka is open when I go, I'm definitely going to try for front and back.
  3. ill defiantly agree with El Toro and Nitro over Ka, but no way superman or medussa. Different strokes for different folks. Most hate on Bizarro but I absolutely love it. Its a smooth as hell coaster for having so many inversions and its well themed and just all around fun. The only downside to it are the loading times. I just recently did Superman:UF for the first time a few months ago after thinking Id hate it, and I think its one of the coolest coaster experiences I've ever had. I can't compare it to any other flyers as its the only one Ive done but it's definitely now in my top faves at the park and it has me dying to try Tatsu, etc. Tatsu is great! The part of the ride that flies over Revolution and the entrance plaza gives me goosebumps every time. You feel like you're soaring in the air. When it comes to theming and overall experience, I definitely think Manta has the edge, though. There's nothing like flying over water!! It really is a beautiful ride. Loved that feeling of flying over water ever since I was a kid riding Top Gun at PGA/CGA. Looking forward to Superman!
  4. Thanks for the advice!! I've never ridden Ka or Dragster before..the most comparable rides I've ridden have been Xcelerator over at Knott's, and Superman at SFMM. I definitely have been dying to ride Stratacoasters like Ka or Dragster but haven't had the opportunity to. Since I'm flying out to NY for business anyway..it seems like the perfect time to visit SFGAdv..Now it's just deciding whether to go on Friday, or stay an extra day and go on Saturday! Either way, I'm probably going to get a Flash Pass to make sure I can get on Toro and Nitro at least a couple of times.
  5. Hmmm..I've been toying with the idea of extending my trip an extra day so that I could ride Kingda Ka on Saturday, June 14th. BUT with the park so crowded..is it worth a skip this time around? It seems like going on Friday would be worth it if it means less crowds. There's plenty of other coasters and rides to check out, with Toro and Nitro, right? I mean, we do have Xcelerator here in SoCal...and that's like Kingda Ka-lite anyway...! Do you guys think Kingda Ka is worth an extra day's wait?
  6. Hey guys! Just curious -- I know on the website it says that Kingda Ka is closed down until Zumajaro is open..but on Twitter and instagram...it seems like they're running the ride either on the weekends or sporadically...Gonna be there next Friday, hoping that it's open..but I'm guessing I shouldn't get my hopes up too high? It will be Friday the 13th, after all!!
  7. I'm flying out to New York on business next week....and I was thinking of renting a car and hitting up SFGAdv, since I don't know when else I would have to chance to ride Kingda Ka and the highly praised El Toro. I don't really mind missing Zumanjaro if it's still under construction, since we have Lex Luthor at SFMM. I've never been on a B&M Hyper..so I'm pretty stoked about that, as well. Being a SoCal and NorCal driver..I'm hoping that driving out in NYC won't be too different, LOL! Anyway, reading this thread is comforting since I was a little hesitant to grab a rental and drive an hour and a half to the park. Seeing that SFGAdv has such a unique set of rides, I was going to go anyway. Anybody have tips on where to eat, what not to miss?
  8. Hi everyone! My fiance and I are heading down to Orlando for the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon. For one of the days, we're thinking of checking out either Sea World Orlando or Busch Gardens Tampa. We're kind of stuck on where to go! I'm more of a coaster enthusiast so my vote would be for BGT, but I'm also interested in the rides at SWO, especially with Antarctica now open. He's not really into extreme coasters as much as I am, but I know BGT also has animals. My only apprehension is that we're going to Animal Kingdom as well, and I'm worried that our trips and experiences will be a bit redundant. We've been to WDW before and love it, but we'd like to try something new this trip. Any thoughts on SWO vs BGT? Where would you rather go, if you had to choose?
  9. I went to UCLA and graduated in 2003. Double majored in Mass Communications and English (with a creative writing concentration). Feels like I was going through my undergrad years not so long ago, though..
  10. Hey everyone! My boyfriend and I are flying to Orlando from Los Angeles at the beginning of March for a wedding..and since neither of us have been to Florida--It's theme park time!! We have 4 days to have fun at the parks. He loves Harry Potter, so we're definitely going to IOA for a full day, which gives us 3 days to play at other parks. We love Disneyland and we've probably been there about 15 times in 2012, so WDW is a must. Since we only have 3 days, Do you guys recommend that we spend two full days at specific parks, maybe Magic Kingdom and Epcot..and then get a hopper for the last day to do AK and WDS? Any suggestions on more budget-oriented hotels that are still comfortable? We wanna make sure we maximize our time and experience without breaking the bank on this trip, so I'm figuring out budget details and stuff right now. Sorry for all the questions, but since we've never been, any advice would be REALLY appreciated!! Thanks! Lewis
  11. Be safe out there on the East Coast. I just saw this..and remembered the amazing TR on here. Apparently, the Fantasy was hit by the storm with passengers on-board. Scary stuff. CNN Reprt: "Disney Fantasy Cruise Ship Hammered by Hurricane Sandy " http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-865019
  12. Looks awesome...Been wanting to go since it opened ten years ago!!
  13. Hey everyone, TGIF! With the HHN mazes going up already, I keep thinking...is it getting that close to Haunt time?! Anyway, I was over at Universal the other day for a movie and spied construction in the Terminator overflow queue--rumoured to be for the Rob Zombie maze. It made me curious to see if anyone remembers the early incarnation of this maze when it appeared at USH pre-haunt hiatus. I remember that the maze itself was on the same level as where you would board the tram...and I think it was in a tent. I remember this because I one of the first times I had been to any haunt EVER was at USH..and the facade and even some of the sets are the same. I don't remember seeing the Museum of the Weird with the Lizzie Borden animatronic though. I remember that as soon as you enter the room, she would move forward and in her hand would be an axe, whacking away. Does anyone remember the first incarnation of this maze??
  14. Hey everyone! Just posting a project of mine that went live earlier today. A whole bunch of us employees from NBCUniversal came together and made a video contribution to the "It Gets Better" project. I was the editor and a producer on the cut. This project has been near and dear to me for the past few months..so I'm very happy to share this with you all! Here's hoping that the IGB project will continue to affect people's lives in a positive way. -Lewis
  15. I'm over in Los Angeles. Just yesterday I saw a Shell station that sold 87 for $4.15. Today, I'll fill up my tank to see what the prices are now. Seems that Burbank gas stations are a few cents cheaper than in West LA...so as much as possible, I try to refill before or after work..never at home, if I can help it!
  16. That sounds really tough. I'm sorry that your mother hasn't accepted this awesome part about you. I hope that over time she will. Are you able to come out to friends, at least? Do you have groups out there that you CAN be a part of that will nurture and allow you to appreciate this? Being gay is a great thing..and though sexual orientation does not define who we are, entirely, it's definitely something important to acknowledge and appreciate (though you probably already know this !) Even if you feel like you have to be in the closet to your Mom, for now, at least...PLEASE stay true to yourself! I say this with all sincerity that it will get better with time...you just have to hang in there.
  17. Congrats on the GA marathon!! looked like a fun course...though I'm sorry about hitting the wall..that sucks, and I totally get it. I started running races in 2006 and have done lots of 5Ks and 10Ks, a handful of half marathons and 2 Marathons-- 2008 San Diego Rock 'N Roll- Hit a wall at mile 18 and walked a lot after...finished in 5:20 and was in a lot of pain after that. 2010 LA Marathon- Found my stride in this one...(and trained properly too..!) finished in 4:38, though I'd love to be able to break 4 next time around..will have to work on my speed. GREAT course...I never thought I would be able to run through the streets of LA like that. MUCH kudos to folks that ran this year...it was a torrential downpour..lots of cases of hypothermia, lots of puddles. My friends and co-workers that ran it said it was pretty miserable because of the weather...as if it running 26.2 miles wasn't hard enough, Mother Nature found a way to make it harder. Been wanting to do the Disney 1/2 but it always sells out before I remember to sign up, lol. Next up is the Malibu Xterra 1/2 in May. This one bans ipods/headphones...SAD FACE...I'm guess I have no choice but to do this sans music. I love to run along Santa Monica beach..in and around Brentwood, and during the week -- around Burbank. I hate treadmills...but if that's the only option, then sometimes I'll give in,
  18. Hey everyone, I'm relatively new to the boards...so hello! I'm gay..been "out" since 2000, but I always knew. My first crush that I can remember was in first grade. He was a year older than me, so occasionally I would see him in the halls and during recess and lunch, but we didn't have the same group of friends. One time I saw him at the dentist's office and we played with Legos and I was in pure bliss, lol. I live over in LA and when I'm not at the parks, my friends and hang out in West Hollywood from time to time..love getting drinks at The Abbey (ESPECIALLY on a Sunday afternoon!). We venture out to Silverlake sometimes and hang out at Akbar or Eagle..but it's been a while since we've done that. Got back from Elevation/gay ski & snowboarding weekend a few weeks ago at Mammoth Mountain-- was SOOOOO much fun! Didn't make it out to White Party this year..anyone go? We've been to this place in the valley called C-Frenz..not a usual hang-out of mine but I'm glad to know there are gay bars out in the valley area. Anyone know if there are any gay clubs/bars near Disneyland? I've always been curious to know. Anyway, HELLO!! and I hope ya'll are having a great day
  19. Hey everybody! I work at NBC Universal as a writer/producer /editor for "Bravo!" the cable network. Before that I was an Associate Producer at NBC's on-air promotion department. A while back I was a Page, just like Kenneth on "30 Rock." We wore the same exact outfit and peacock tie that Kenneth currently wears on the show. Blue poly..so stylish. We work on marketing campaigns and commercials for our shows, go on shoots, edit lots of stuff, direct voice over talent, etc. -LD
  20. great Tina Fey/30 Rock reference I want to go to there....too!
  21. AND hot security guards, . If you guys ever find yourself in SoCal, we should definitely hit up the parks down here! Love Disneyland and Knotts especially Then we can have some fabulous martinis at the Abbey in WeHo
