So I finally saw Tomorrowland. Wow, what a hot mess of a movie that was. There were certainly parts I liked, and I didn't hate it, but I can see why it hasn't done well. The performances were really good and the two girls saved the movie from being a total disaster, but between confusing plot points that went nowhere, completely ridiculous scenes that rival the Indy Jones in the nuclear fridge scene in embarrassment for the writers and the actors, the actual Tomorrowland not even being remotely cool or interesting and there being some sort of creepy pedophile overtone throughout the film the whole thing was just not good. I'm a huge fan of Brad Bird, but maybe he should stick to animated movies.

Any news on the 2014 Mitch Hawker poll?
robbalvey replied to kweiss's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'm pretty sure he explains at least the basics of how he does his formula on the website. -
Anyone ridden all the RMCs yet?
robbalvey replied to kweiss's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
No, not at all actually. That was just the way they were listed in the original post when I copy/pasted them. I honestly don't know which I'd put as #1 as I like them all just the same. I pretty much stopped ranking coasters a few years ago, even the Mitch poll I ended up grouping most of them the last few years, as I felt it really doesn't matter. I kind of feel that having a "top ten" just invites arguments and drama between people and IMO that's not what coaster riding is about. Let's leave the counting and ranking for the super die-hards and focus on riding and having fun! And you can pretty much do that on ALL of the RMC coasters! -
I stopped counting and ranking coasters because it took too much time away from riding and having fun.

^ Going up fast! Has anyone been by the site of HRP lately? Curious to know what's left and how many of the buildings they've torn down. -

In about 8 weeks I'll have been on all of them. It's sort of hard for me to rank them all, but if I had to it would look something like this: 1. New Texas Giant - Six Flags Over Texas 1. Outlaw Run - Silver Dollar City 1. Medusa - Six Flags Mexico 1. Wicked Cyclone - Six Flags New England 2. Iron Rattler - Six Flags Fiesta Texas 3. Goliath - Six Flags Great America TBD - Twisted Colossus - Six Flags Magic Mountain Sorry, I just couldn't not tie those first four for #1! lol And even my least favorite RMC is still better than 95% of the roller coasters in the world! -
Robb & Elissa in Japan - 2015!
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Our Tuesday/Wednesday days were pretty light at both parks. I think it has less to do with weather and more to do with timing. Sunday/Monday were significantly busier at both parks. We saw 60-90 minute lines for Journey on Monday, but 25-45 on Tuesday/Wednesday. Rain most certainly will affect the crowds, but on a weekend day, not as much as you might think. -
Alton Towers Discussion Thread
robbalvey replied to Ed's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
It's such a shame, too. The US media did it to SeaWorld and now the Brits are doing it to Alton Towers. It just amazes me the world we live in today where a "headline" and shock news reporting is waaaaaaay more important than people actually having a good time. -
Yup, pretty much. The most disappointing part of that post was this: People are just so self-entitled that they feel rules do not apply to them. While I think it's good that Disney has taken a stronger stance on this, they really shouldn't have had to. While in Japan over the last four weeks we saw several selfie sticks being used but NONE of them were ever being used in a way that would annoy or endanger other guests. If people could have just been respectful or followed the rules, none of this would have ever happened. But so many people are blaming Disney and not humanity, which is exactly where the real trouble lies.

West Coast Bash 2015!

Here's a search for past WCB updates if this helps: http://themeparkreview.com/forum/search.php?keywords=west+coast+bash&terms=all&author=&fid%5B%5D=2&sc=1&sf=titleonly&sr=posts&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search -
With digital content so easy to create these days, I really wish Six Flags would create content for each specific park that has a ride from that actual park! Would it really have been so difficult to have a picture of Twisted Colossus instead of something that doesn't look like any ride at SFMM for this ad?

West Coast Bash 2015!
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
We expect West Coast Bash tickets to go on sale sometime next week! We can confirm we will be doing Twisted Colossus ERT, backstage tours at both Six Flags Magic Mountain & Knott's Berry Farm, morning & evening ERT at both parks, and a Voyage to the Iron Reef contest! -

For those of you who miss the Jaws ride at Universal Studios Orlando, here's a new multi-angle, 60FPS version of the ride we shot at Universal Studios Japan! -
Robb & Elissa in Japan - 2015!
robbalvey replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
Here is some video of Thunder Dolphin that we shot while in Japan. Interestingly, when I first rode this in 2004, I felt it was pretty lame. But then again, we had also ridden Expedition GeForce, Goliath, all three Superman coasters, and Millennium Force within a couple of years before that, so then hitting this one seemed pretty lame in comparison to other other Intamin hypers. Fast forward 10+ years and a lot of really forceless and boring B&M hypers later and Thunder Dolphin seems MUCH better! While I still feel it is my least favorite of all the Intamin hypers it's certainly better than every single B&M hyper or giga I've ridden! -
Thanks! I'll get to these as soon as we get back from Japan!

Buddy, why can't you just let us want the park to open T3? And now you can enjoy a temporary ban for the lack of respect you have for our moderators. EDIT: I see you apologized, which is why I changed your ban from a permanent to a temporary. I still have zero patience for this. Don't ever let it happen again if you want to be part of our forum.

If people were actually *respectful* of others and ONLY used them to take personal photos, etc, your argument would be totally valid. But in reality, humanity is complete garbage and people were unable to police themselves and NOT try to sneak them on rides or block other people's views at shows/parades, etc, and the end result has been people getting injured on rides, rides being E-Stopped due to idiot people, or arguments or fights breaking out at shows. Trust me, Disney TRIED to accommodate everyone for people to use them for personal photos but the reality is that humans suck and that just didn't work. Don't blame the parks, blame humanity. Oh, and you do look completely stupid using them. So there is that.

Kolmården Discussion Thread

You can continue to listen to an article you read written by someone who I presume has no real connections to the park. Me? I'll listen to the dude that owns the park that called me tonight when they got the news. -

Nope. They told me that are "back on track" and things will move forward as they were before.
