Photo TR: Cedar Point, 6/2HogarthOK replied to dandaman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! They don't print anymore -- they just sign you in. Maxx Passes are *supposed* to be scannable at the gate, but this has mixed results at best. (Our WoF passes don't scan anywhere but WoF.) The folks in GR are nice, though.. If you're there early, you'd might as well go in. H

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion ThreadHogarthOK replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! The lift hill is directly over and runs roughly parallel to the tunnel. You're probably hearing another train being launched, or vice versa (hearing the "blast" *on* the lift hill).

Secret Scary CoasterHogarthOK replied to jason10's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! TPC: Ya know, I thought I would have the same reaction -- but MF's lift hill is different from your usual chain lift. It's very steep and very fast. You don't have the long, long wait like you do on most hypers. For me, it's always looking down at the beginning of those big, big drops that scares. Back seat is often better because you're dragged forcefully down the hill, and everyone else has to see the horror first. Front seat, it's just you and the track. The other thing that never fails to get my stomach churning are inversions taken backwards.. Boomerangs always give me a special twinge and I tend to scream "whoOAaaAAaaaA". I also loathe the loud CLUNK as your train is caught on the uphill on Boomerangs. H

Photo TR: Cedar Point, 6/2HogarthOK replied to dandaman's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! We have WoF Maxx Passes, and while the Green tag at the gates was a little confused, Maxx Pass does include the early entry benefit. Blue tags don't even bat an eyelash, though. (We asked if we could upgrade to Joe Cool and the staff in Guest Relations said "Umm... Why would you want to do that??")

The Rumor / Crazy Idea SuperthreadHogarthOK replied to Wes's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Former OK -- Latter is not evidence. Every Pepsi machine at Worlds of Fun has images from Cedar Point on it. Doesn't mean that WoF is going to become CP KI needs a B&M invert much worse than a rocket coaster. H

The Knight's Inn on Rt. 6 is barely OK -- and at least last year, it was like $45 on a Friday night (September 21st) It's fairly close -- http://tinyurl.com/33vh93 but if you don't have Joe Cool or a Maxx Pass, Breakers Express will definitely suit you better. Last week, the wife and I stayed at the Comfort Suites on 250 -- it's a good distance away from the park, but it's 100% non-smoking, and the hotel is only 3 years old. Not great on a budget -- but fairly comfortable.

It's definitely the final break run. However, I disagree that it's unavoidable. Hold your head back against the seat and brace yourself tightly against the seat back by pushing strongly against the handles on the OTSR. Your head will bounce a little from side to side, but shouldn't hit the restraints. Even if you can't prevent it -- well, Mantis can be rougher. You'll survive. Maverick will bounce you all over the place, but the OTSR is soft, and you won't mind a bit. H

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion ThreadHogarthOK replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Pretty bad. The bottom line is: When Ohio & Michigan school districts are open, CP attendance is relatively low. This means May (before Memorial Day), September (after Labor Day) and October. (Halloweekends days tend to start out with light attendance and get worse as night comes on.) Edit: Wife and I went to Halloweekends on September 21st last year, and while, admittedly, it was pretty chilly -- everything but TTD and MF were walk ons.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion ThreadHogarthOK replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! *very* choppy. That having been said -- the restraints are *very* comfortable. It's not like the brake run of Raptor if you are unbraced. Repeated rides will probably let one prepare for it more, but I was not troubled at all by any of the choptastic action. (and now I see why the "Remove your earrings" sign exists.) H

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion ThreadHogarthOK replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Hi folks. We just got back, too. Managed three rides over the course of the day. The wait inside the main queue is designed to be exactly 2 hours long. As haux pointed out, there was additional queueing on the midway, but it was only about 30-45 minutes long. It diminished as the day went on and was only about 1.5 hrs around 4pm. There was one shutdown for unknown reasons, and another where the seat buckle would not unbuckle -- 15 minute shutdown, replaced buckle, operations continued. We first got in line about 9:20am, and were on board around 11am. T-shirt score! My impressions? It's a great ride. It's not terrifying at all, but plenty of oohs and aahs. Good air, fast, and fun. 9.5 / 10. If you can't find a way to enjoy this ride, you really need to see your psychiatrist to get some antidepressants. There's fun for everyone. It's my favorite ride at the park by a mile. H

Took this picture today at CP. OK -- What's with this warning? I have no doubt that it's accurate -- but wouldn't that go for most rides? Why is Maverick special with regards to jewelry??

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion ThreadHogarthOK replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Well, we were at CP today, and I must say -- man, Maverick looks sweet. It's very, very impressive looking from the ground -- viewing all the curves and inversions from different angles and imagining the speed of being launched through them. It will be fantastic when it opens.

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion ThreadHogarthOK replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Not a bad guess -- Patriot at Worlds of Fun has a second, separate line, and while it's not indicated as single rider, it's there. Considering it's CF's next newest steel coaster, I wouldn't be surprised if they're starting a trend.

First off, I hope you're staying at one of the resorts or are a Joe Cool club member. If you are, you'll get in an hour before the general public. If not, expect a number of rowdy teenagers to make a mad dash to TTD and MF when the gates open. My wife and I used the JC early entry to ride Raptor three times in a row before anyone else was in the park. Awesome. CP is a big loop. I recommend doing it by starting with Raptor and then generally moving to the right hand path. Raptor Wicked Twister TTD Corkscrew Magnum Gemini Mean Streak (but only if you like woodies.. your back will not be happy) Maverick (if it's open, which is unlikely) Mine Ride MF Mantis Iron Dragon Blue Streak Raptor again (if the line isn't too long) Disaster Transport Repeat at will. Mantis tends to have lines out of proportion with its quality. If it's more than 45mins, move on to the next ride. I love the other major rides too -- hit them up as you wish. (I suggest MaxAir just before WT, Power Tower (at least red, but blue is fun too.) before Corkscrew, Skyhawk after the Mine Ride.) On a not-so-busy day with fairly lousy weather, you can probably do the full cycle twice. Since you're going for 4 days, one of which is a Thursday, you'll undoubtedly have ridden everything you want to after day 2. I know PointBuzz is far from authoritative, but here: http://www.pointbuzz.com/cpplace.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=20605 Considering CF already has some installations of the technology due to the Paramount acquisition, this is fairly certain. http://cdride.info/

Cedar Point (CP) Discussion ThreadHogarthOK replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Chiming in -- I, too, am a little disappointed. I, like some of the other posters, booked late in May, but still in May, to be able to ride Maverick and yet still not have summer-level crowds and heat. I certainly didn't expect it to be 100% on Day 1, but I don't think it would've been unreasonable to get a *little* more public notice, either. It wouldn't have hurt business for CF much at all if they announced that it would not be ready a few days after reporting Q1 earnings. (That is to say, last month.) Judging from looking at some of the pull-through photos, this difficulty is NOT a new discovery to them. Will I still go to CP? Of course. Will I have a good time? Of course. Could I have had a better time? Probably. Could I have devoted my travel dollars to another park? Absolutely. (Since I've already been to CP.) Will I probably have to go back during Halloweekends? Probably. I won't deny that Maverick is simply the icing on the cake -- but it was awfully delicious looking icing -- and it's frustrating to be shown the cake, and four days before you were scheduled to eat the cake, have the icing removed. Midwest/Eastcoast trip suggestions?HogarthOK replied to Blazen_AZN's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Traveling east from CP would permit one to easily hit, well, every park in Pennsylvania (Knoebels, Kennywood, Dorney, Hershey), SFGAdv, then take 95 down to Virginia -- and you could hit KD or BGE very easily, then back to DC (SFAm ?), and back to Columbus. Personally, I'd skip DC and focus on the Columbus to NYC corridor. http://www.coast2coaster.com/ should help a great deal.

My vote is for Raptor at CP. You come out of the final turn and *BAM*. If you're not literally forcing your head against the seat back, you'll be beaten about the head repeatedly as the train levels out and breaks. I still love it, though

Photo TR: Worlds of Fun, April 21stHogarthOK replied to HogarthOK's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys! Granted, I haven't been on many, but I think Patriot is a great ride. It is very smooth, due to its age, I assume. It's not overly complicated (5 inversions) but has a great sense of speed, and some decent views. It doesn't have that jarring brake run like Raptor. Plus, due to the crowds (or lack thereof) we probably could've ridden it 15 times today, had we desired to do so. I wouldn't go to WOF if it's completely out of your way. (Scotland?!) But if you're within a few hours drive, it's worth the trip. After lurking on TPR for awhile, I want to ride Pyrenees. H

Hi gang. Worlds of Fun is a small little park, and a lot of fun. Weather was beautiful; crowds were very light early in the day, and just medium at the end of the day. Unlike poor Ginzo's KI experience, the season pass processing line was relatively short -- even better, though, we went yesterday to get processed and there was no line at all. The bathrooms definitely got that "Cedar Fair" makeover. I felt like I was doing #2 near Disaster Transport. It's also amusing to still find Orient Express merch in some of the stores. Got tired after awhile, but ended up being there about 6 hours. Patriot x 4 Mamba x 2 Boomerang x 2 Spinning Dragons x 2 Wacky Worm x 1 (yay credit) (and some miscellaneous flats) If you're near MO, and you haven't been, you're missing out! (Doubly so if you have or want to get a Maxx pass.) Pictures taken with a Fuji Finepix V10 -- i *love* it. It can power on, take a picture, and power off in under 5 seconds. On with the photos... Patriot from the Parking Lot Spinning Dragons from the Bridge into the Orient One of Cedar Fair's best logo designs, IMHO No lines at 9:45 in the morning. Boomerang needs a paint job badly. Sit upright, hold on tight, because Mamba is about to strike. Detonator's still fun, too. It's not Power Tower, but it'll do. Snoopy looks borderline inappropriate in this photo. Thanks, Snoop. Duhhhh Dee Dee Dee whee?

Seconded. Worse, yet, it's the worst run coaster at WoF. I waited over an hour (at mid-morning in October), to get abused by that hunk of junk. (They were only running one train.) I bought the picture, though. People ask me "Why do you look happy in that [Patriot] photo and so unhappy in the TimberWolf photo??"
