Shane's Amusement Attic
montezooma replied to montezooma's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
The production cost of creating, directing and staffing all those shows must have been off the charts! I wonder if the costs of running and maintaining a signature ride is about the same as one of their shows. Anyone have any insight on this??? -

I just watched it again this morning as I uploaded it. It really is a well done documentary and makes you very sad for the loss of this truly unique park. -

Coming this afternoon and over the next 5 days in Shane's Amusement Attic...a very special 5-part mini series, "Memories of Opryland" I will be presenting over the next 5 days the wonderful program that aired on Nashville's PBS station. If you are a fan of Opryland or never got the chance to visit this unique park you MUST see this program. -Shane -

A while ago the local PBS station did a documentary on Opryland, did any of you locals get the chance to see it? They used some of my old home movie footage so I was able to get a copy of the program...maybe I should get it posted to this thread. I would love to see a new version of Opryland open in Nashville. -

Flash Pass @ Six Flags Great Adventure
montezooma replied to iplf's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
When I visited the park last year early in the Season I opted for the Gold Flash Pass and I am so glad I did. Not only did I get ALL the credits but I got many re-rides on El Toro, Kingda Ka & Nitro. I would recommend going with the gold pass just so you can get ride after ride on El Toro. Actually I don't go to Six Flags parks anymore without buying the gold flash pass. Standing in line is so 2000! -

GRAVITY GROUP Here is more of my IAAPA installments. This time, Gravity Group. This is all the postcards and company information I picked up from the show. Although I have ridden most of GCI's coasters, I have only ridden one Gravity Group creation, the Fireball in China. It was quite a ride and hopefully I will get to more sometime this year. -

Ah yes..."White Water RAMPAGE" thanks for clearing that up. Too bad they changed it, it is such a better name than Roaring Rapids. -

Legoland Florida Discussion Thread
montezooma replied to robbalvey's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I'll tell you who is going to go...Anyone that has boys from the ages of 4-14! I live in Salt Lake right now, Legoland CA is not a convenient park for me to go to, but my kids beg me to go all the time. They would rather go to Legoland that Disneyland. So if I was going to plan a trip to Florida, which tens of millions of people do each year you can bet that a large percentage of families with young boys will make the trek to Legoland. I agree the locations sucks but there has to be a GREAT amount of money that will not have to be invested in the park due to the existing facilities (restaurants, restrooms & merchandise) and infrastructure and secondly Lego is a strong brand that will draw crowds. Just my thoughts... As much as young girls love all the Disney Princesses, young boys LOVE Legos. -

I love the look of that Coney Island postcard. Here is an old card from Grona Lund in Stockholm Sweden. The park has really changed from the days of this postcard. -

Thanks for clearing up the date of this video. I kind of went off the top of my head. As far as the rapids conveyor loading system, I believe the first ride to incorporate the turn table system was Roaring Rapids at Six Flags Great America. At the time the ride also had a different name, something like "White Water Rapids" or White Water Canyon". -

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT: SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN Today we are going way back...back to a time when Leeza Gibbons ruled the 7:00 time slot, the biggest Coaster in the world was the American Eagle and before Kirk Cameron loved Jesus. In this clip from Entertainment Tonight we take a visit to Six Flags Magic Mountain to ride their new ride sensation...the stand-up coaster, "Shock Wave" God I miss the 90's [coastertube]http://www.themeparkreview.com/coastertube/play.php?vid=Entertainment_Tonight_599l[/coastertube] -

These are my thoughts to your questions: Deja Vu was removed due to the many technical difficulties and maintenance issues it suffered from. Shock Wave was removed in place of Whizzer being removed due to the public outcry. Also Shock Wave became pretty rough and unpopular in it's later years. I think it is a shame that this ride was not relocated to another park. I could have been a huge signature ride for another Six Flags park such as SFA or SFStL. Tidal Wave...I have no logical reason why this was removed other than after so many years at the park ridership was low and they decided to use that space for a new ride and relocate the shuttle loop to another park (SFOG) Anyone else have any explanations they care to share? -
