Shane's Amusement Attic

Yes, the thing I noticed is there are shots of SFoG Great American Scream Machine but with the Texas Cyclone logo on the front of the train. They must have used GASM for the commercial shots when introducing the Texas Cyclone. -

This is a cool thread! I am very intrigued why the Michigan's Adventure Crokscrew is like that? Has it been like that since it opened or is this a recent modification? I can only figure that when they pored the original footings that one was too high so they had to modify the spine so it would fit on the footing...just my thought. anyone know for sure? -

Shane's Retro VCR: "The Science Edition" I am breaking open the vaults to bring you more RETRO VCR. I really enjoy these old news programs that focused on coasters. This one, obviously produced in Canada is from "The Science Edition"...If you have a sharp eye you will catch something not right. Who will be the first to spot it? Take it away Judy -

I don't mind the addition of Depp...as a matter of fact I like it and don't think it takes anything away from the greatness of the ride. The one change I am not a fan of was when they made the Pirate/Wench chase politically correct...BOO on that move -

I was so excited when I found this book. I don't remember buying it and didn't know I had it. Sometimes you just never know what is hidden in the attic. When I read through this book it reminded me that I also had a similar book on "It's A Small World" I haven't found it yet, I hope it pops up soon. Another update coming up soon. -

All images from the Pirates of the Caribbean book seem to be visible now, if you are still seeing a red x in place of the image please let me know. I did most of this post during the Piracy of TPR so there seemed to be quite a bit of problems with the downloads...enjoy -Shane -

Are the pictures from the Pirates book showing up for anyone out there? When I open the page not all of them download, was wondering if others are having the same problem. I may have to re-load them if you are...let me know Shane -

Pirates of the Caribbean This post finishes up my retro Disney introduction to Season 3. Here is an in depth look at Pirates of the Caribbean. Lots of good stuff to read in here and lots of photos of early concepts, models and of the ride. Pirates is still a MUST RIDE for me...every time...at every park...and Disney's original version is still my fave! -Shane and a ride up the lift! Two drops!!!! First a little Pirate background Nice suit Walt! And now onto the good stuff...bringing the Pirates to life! sketch to reality Aye spy me two wenches! a very popular scene in the rides and movie I wonder why they had to wear lab coats? cool model. I wonder if it is still around somewhere at Imagineering? The End...or as they say in Pirates..."Dead Men Tell No Tales" IMO Walt Disney World's version is the least successful of all the pirate rides. -

I hope this entry is scary enough for the "SCAREadise" series. Here is the ominous Sky Screamer from AstroWorld (RIP) PS - I love that this 1st gen. Free Fall ride is going to Knott's -

That was such an interesting documentary. Thanks for posting. I wish there was one of these programs for each theme park. I love hearing the back story of how these great parks came to be. I miss the old Kings Island -

Here is a souvenir book from my first visit to Tokyo Disneyland back in 1985 (wow, that was over 20 years ago, I really am getting old). I still love this place and if you haven't been... beg, borrow or steal to get there! -

But I digress, let's get back to some Disney goodness. This time across the great United States to the east coast were a in 1971 a new Disney park had just opened. This souvenir book is not from the opening year but it does pre-date EPCOT. Can you believe there only used to be ONE theme park in Orlando...what's up with that??? -

Here's another one that might top that picture. Kristin was ALL ABOUT swinging from the grips on the train...until Elissa let go of her, then it was a completely different story. I think this picture captures the moment -

Well it is that time of year again. Time to open up the attic and pull out some of the great stuff I have saved over the years. What an exciting summer I had. For those of you that aren't aware, I opened up a small waterpark in Draper UT. I say small, but it does feature the world'd largest water play structure. I am pleased to say we had a very successful season and our guests really enjoyed their experience at Cowabunga Bay. (check out this thread if you are interested in knowing more about Cowabunga Bay) Summer also brought for me three great weeks of TPR coasting across Asia. I had the best time travelling through China and North Japan with some great coaster friends. While China was an exciting place to visit I must admit that Japan is my favorite place in the world!!!! I love this place and being able to travel out to the boonies of Japan to ride some very unique coasters was an experince I will never forget. So enough about me lets get started with Season 3 of Shane's Amusement Attic. While in Japan we stayed at the new Tokyo Disneyland Hotel and spent three days at Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, two of the GREATEST theme parks in the entire world!!! So I thought I would start this season off with some Disney stuff. Over the next couple of days I will share with you some early souvenir books from each of the Disney parks. First off, let's start with the original Disney Park (Chris, this is "your park"). Here is a souvenir book from 1978. You gotta love the old Tomorrowland and Fantasyland and also Frontierland without Big Thunder. Hope you all enjoy season 3. Keep the comments coming!!! Shane and one last shot of another Arrow Corkscrew! OK, now onto Disneyland circa 1978 The best ride of the trip for me was this Togo Ultra Twister which featured the awesome dive loop which sent you into the final twists at unbelievable speed! daily affirmations..."I am a winner and damnit, people like me!" I am a sucker for old Arrow Corkscrews and this one you were able to walk right underneath the track which allowed me to get this GREAT shot! first off Here are just a couple of my favorite shots from China/Japan -

What's your favorite John Allen coaster?
montezooma replied to ComfyNAD's topic in Theme Parks, Roller Coasters, & Donkeys!
I vote for the Screamin' Eagle also, it also gets extra points for a classic great coaster name!
